Great stuff. Some nice moments there but for me, that catch by Gower was special. What a fielder he was. People often say he was a lazy cricketer who was only interested when he got a bat in international cricket, but you've got to be 100% on your concentration to take a catch like that - and he did it many times throughout his career.

One of those rare one day matches that you remember more than 30 years later. Proof that you don't need lots of slogging and sixes for a match to be entertaining. Some proper cricket strokes, players in whites, a proper boundary rope . . . shit, I am sounding old!

@distantvoices Totally agree. Poor management and the old boys club selection policy. Also, some England players were simply too 'nice' and did not respond well when the opposition started to sledge or up the ante.

I was at this game it was my very first England cricket match I had seen. I was lucky enough to be in a corporate box also for the first time in my life. I was so excited when the winning run was hit I jumped up for joy punched the air and managed to remove several panels from the suspended ceiling much to the amusement of most, the disdain of a few and the embarrassment of myself!

Thanks for the great upload. This was the first England match I watched properly on TV, at the age of 9, and it was seared into my memory. Magical stuff - loads of ducks and run-outs (Richie shouting "HAVE TO BE QUICK!" every few seconds), scintillating hitting from DeFreitas, and Fozzy snicking the winning runs in his crash helmet! :)

Javaid used to be the only one to take the burden of whole batting line up . Once Javaid our whole batting used fall like dry leaves. Same thing happened in World Cup 1992 semifinal no one was able to stand the pressure and Javaid Mindad stood like Mount Everest only Inzamam played good because he had no pressure because Javaid was playing with him . This was the common practice until the retirement of great Javaid Mindad.

Agree with this. I went to the 5th Test at the Oval in 1987. Even as a 14 year old I could see something had gone badly wrong with project integration. Was no surprise that the BBC and media even back then was siding with the Pakistan supporters even though they were openly shouting racist abuse at whites and the Police. It actually kicked off at the game depicted in the youtube video above. An England fan was bottled although they tried to keep it quiet. Imagine had it been the other way round?
