ᴴᴰ Original R160 N train via D Line Announcements ( "via Broadway Local" / "via West End Line")

  • Here is the Original R160 N train announcement program for a N train being rerouted via Broadway Local line and West End line (via the D line). When the R160s were first being tested on the N line, they featured announcements stating the trunk line name instead of the usual "via the _ line" . Thanks to numerous contributions, I've pieced together the full announcement program from the 2005-2006 years prior to it being updated to what we have now.

    In my opinion, the MTA should've kept stating trunk lines, instead of 'via the letter line', when the train is being rerouted. It would make sense on what line the train is when rerouted. But in 2008, I guess the MTA wanted to make it simple, and add 'via the letter line' to make things easier for riders to understand what line they are being rerouted to.

      MTA has been trying to get riders to know what trunk lines are for a long time. By them putting it on subway maps to them adding it on train displays, most ppl still dont know the train lines by trunk, only by which color and letter/number the train is

      tbh if its in manhattan, i would do the trunk line. however, if its in the other boroughs, list the letter line

    I can recall that old programs like these have a pause before the station is announced, the overheads said the station and then "NEXT" instead of the current "THE NEXT STOP IS" and then the station. Specifically for the first R160B on the N train, the original Manhattan bound N announcement in Brooklyn says the one shown except it didn't say Local.

    • @charlyl9252
      @charlyl9252 Před 4 lety +1

      For example, in an R160 a train video in 2006, the overhead said “BEACH 36 ST NEXT” instead of “THE NEXT STOP IS” and then “BEACH 36 ST”

    The trunk line announcements were a little throwback to the past. Too bad they got rid of them as now passengers don't know line names anymore which is arguably more important than knowing letters.
