I am the son of the American who in the 1960s helped design and build a water and wastewater treatment plant the remains of which still exists on Barkley Ave., in Sinkor. We lived on Payne Ave., near JFK Hospital. It was a life experience for boy-aged me that still has a positive effect on the man I am to this day.
I too studied Environmental Science and Engineering(M.S., Virginia Polytechnic Institute). I have worked in the environmental field for more than thirty years, specializing in solid and hazardous waste management. I have extensive experience in environmental sustainability, and professional experience outside the United States (Asia and Europe).
I am fast approaching retirement, and with no meaningful attachments, if your video does garner the attention of Liberian officials, I ask that you communicate to President Weah and the National Policy Council my willingness to assist the Liberian people establish safe and effective agricultural refuse and solid and hazardous waste management programs.
    I can be reached here.

My observation when visiting Liberia is it's a beautiful country with many opportunities. There are many issues that need to be addressed. Health care, quality education, sanitation, good governance & many many more.
My Liberian husband & I just recently completed our home there...Liberia is our home. Change starts in the mind of each & every one of us and then we implement it. Liberians in the country, Liberians in the diaspora & Black Americans who want to repatriate...ALL hands on deck are needed to make mama Liberia who she deserves to be!! We CAN do it!!

Yet, I also believe the diaspora should link up and create forward thinking opportunities and tourism will benefit both sides. I can't speak for all Americans but I believe a lot of us want to go to various African nations to spend not only money but knowledge of building relationships and communities. Great work to both of you for bringing tough conversations to the table Shalom 💪🏾

It's not even about cleaning up certain communities in America. You have to know when there is to much water under the bridge so to speak and when certain things are a waste of time. Some time only separation is the only way to proceed forward. So it is time for the consciously enlightened, forward thinking Pan African community to now put it's energy into their own nation building efforts on some land of their own, so they can understand the true beauty of freedom, justice and equality and love, peace and happiness. And nation build for their own children and future.

Word of mouth here in the U.S., Liberia has sprung up a hot topic again in the African-American community, with many people thinking of moving there to contribute. This hasn't been seen since the 1920s. However, what's discouraging is the high barrier start and fear of a lack of open arms.

I always wonder why Liberia was not the shining star in Africa. Up until I did research on the history of Liberia. When Black people went back to Africa/Liberia, they started to develop the country, but it was natives, who felt as though they were getting the short end of the stick. That’s jealousy and it led to a war. Keep in mind there were not that many Black people in Liberia from America compared to the people in the country. It’s the same thing that’s going on in Haiti. And we really have to face it in order to fix it. I truly believe that Liberia would be further down the road if they never had the war between Black people.

My response to all the suggestions and opinions is that the Liberian people living in Liberia are stock and can not move on their own. There is a saying that “we are product of our environment”. Liberian people need awareness to get themselves out of the condition they are currently in. Everything that surrounds them (good or bad) are been normalized to the extend that they do not see the deplorable situations and conditions that surround them as problems (sewage issues, clean water and sanitation issues, inadequate application of rule of law, feelings of abandonment by those who supposed to guide them, a lack of quality education, increase corruption). Poverty has a lot to do with their current mindset that they live with. Whatever you see them involved in are what they grew up with and those are what they know and are accustomed to. Let’s give our recommendations in constructive ways to encourage the Liberian people to see that there is a way out of the plight they are in. Criticism would not make them to change their ways. The reasons I am suggesting constructive recommendations is that whatever situation they are in today can mostly be cured with changing their mindset and turn their thinking around that might lead to positive outcomes. Liberian people’s plight is not a condition, it’s a mindset that requires transformation. Liberian people are resilient, nice people, want they same way things that people in other countries want. They merely need guidance and transformational leadership.

He is absolutely right. The country is in a terrible state. The civil war isn’t our excuse. We were backward even before the civil war. Our biggest problem has been bad leadership. Our leaders have been terrible. We can build all the mansions in Liberia as long we have a deficit of leadership, and the country will continue to remain dirt poor. Liberia is not poor but we choose to be poor because of the caliber of leaders we elect in public offices.

My Mom hasn't been back to Liberia, since the war started in late 80s. She hates to see how the country has become. She grew up with electricity in the 50s in ZorZor! There were villages that were developing back then with power line, not just generators, but the wars destroyed everything and ECOMOG stole the rest. That being said Liberian isn't the only country that went through wars, but those other countries have not used that as an excuse to start developing. Many people there are just waiting on their expat relatives to send them money. It's the mindset that has left the country in the dust, from the people up to the Presidents. The people are incredibly smart but there are too many who tend to only live for the day, instead of planning for the future and that don't work as a community.

Sir, you have done the utmost righteous thing in bringing your case to the table in front of Ghanaians, Yes, I remember in my youth , when Ghana or the Gold Coast faced exactly the same dilemma. The love for our country was lost to colonial countries; we all spent our money and times outside while foreign companies reaped the resources. But hey, the genius of Gold coast, one day ,woke up to sing a famously known song ,'Yen Ara Ya Assase Ni ', a pre- independence song, most probably written, as I got to know, by a known Oxford University graduate, became motivation factor for the whole of the country. As it blasted over our heads early in the mornings, at the age of 5 years, in my first year in primary, heard it at lunch hour, evening, and several other times during the rest of the weeks, months to come over radio Ghana. We had water, toilet and housing problems. Water was carried over our heads. As far the sewage, I am sure it can be left to your imagination. This song formed a motivating song towards independence of our now ' beloved land' Yen Ara Ye Assase Ni ' . Please find this song from any Ghana radio station, translate into English, Try your best to make one synonously. We developed this love for the country through that Hypnosis of the song. Changes began from the quest independence,to eviction of the Governor from Ghana leading to political changes. No consultancy fees required, learn to make Liberians pray each morning to love This Wonderful Land. Write a new national Anthem with love for Liberia, Liberians. Because Liberia at this moment Belongs to The USA, and this is why I could see in the video, you can not even talk. You can call myself one of your people. Change the national flag to a more African narrative.

Oh yes brother, I know the history very well. And if we built Liberia up and created what it turned out to be at that time, just imagine what we can do now! With millions of Pan African thinking African American people who are now desiring to return 🏡 home, like Elijah Muhammad used to say " We must introduce them to a land some where on the face of this earth that they can call their own", and now with assistance of certain American organizations, China, Russia, North Korea, Cuba and the entire BRICS organization and other Central and South American countries who will " throw us a dog bone", can you IMAGINE what we could create? This is why the unity and creation of a Pan African community in the Americas for the African American nation is so important, so that these concepts of OUR own land can be introduced. But, all hope is not lost for the wheels are slowly turning, as a matter of fact it's already being created on the mental and spiritual plane, we just got to make it happen on the material plane. Peace and love family.

Man does not have the power or organization to suppress a people for so long unless the One and only true God allowed it to be so. My prayer is that we all stop looking for man to help us and turn back to our GOD He is the only help we need AMEN.

Liberia is a Country in Africa which should be first on the minds of African Americans to visit in Africa. But they are afraid. That's a loss of almost a billion US$ dollars from tourism, or more. People will want to return with their life savings, retirement or wealth they earned overseas, but they are afraid. That's a potential inflow of perpetual revenue of nearly a billion US dollars. Good and serious education is very much due in Liberia. It will very much help to bring the people together.

As a Liberian, I totally agree with you. We do not have business minded people running our government. Most Liberians complaining now are only doing so because they are not part of the corruption. When in position, they do worse and lack creativity.
Many countries went through civil war, but they are not as messed up as we are. We don’t believe in self development. People who are focused on self development are introspective.
Most of us are not able to site and reflect on where we’re, and the future we want to design.

Good analysis, good comments, and great mindset. I paid attention to this and read every comment because my heart is sold out on returning to Liberia, my country of birth. The government has a big role to play. The leadership is responsible for steering the minds of the people and setting the path for integration and development. If the government steers it, the media will follow suit. To change the mindset of the country for those inside and outside of the country, the government must consider it a priority to foster programs of awareness and make actual minimum initiatives AND STAY WITH THE PROGRAM. Enforced war on indiscipline against waste dumping could be a starting point. Set time aside to clean the beaches, then encourage the media to show the beaches as an example. We will get there. All these Easter African countries taking this lead started from the leadership. My 2 cents.

Liberian people especially the young people now have been grossly denied and deprived of any opportunity for adequate life standard compare to the entire world. The major lacking is education which is a major loss due to the war. Second, development providing jobs for the people are inadequate. You talked about tourism. First the people have to be one for trust and security, but Liberia is divided. There is too much hardship. Liberia has been thrown way back. Liberia was an advanced developing African Country 40 or more years ago. Monrovia infrastructure even from the 60s is decaying, decaying. People are not returning because they are afraid. Tourism requires safety, security and good impressions. More young and educated Liberian will change Liberia. Corruption, going way back and now, needs to end.

Liberia is a beautiful country , people would definitely love to come there as tourists . Just imagine if all the cruise ships that were registered in Liberia actually docked and the people came down and spent their money , billions ! But the tourists that have money , Whites, African Americans must have certain BASIC amenities ! Look at Britain ,the only thing the British have going for them is tourism and they are making hundreds of billions !!The British have maintained every building that was built from hundreds of years ago and of course the Royal Family , and people from all over the world are flocking there and spending real money!!
