Thanks for showing this technique. After seeing this I was able to instal a different wick on a Matador 20 burner. It's burning nice again. Now I'm planning to do this much more often with this style of oil lamps ☺
I found a Kosmos lamp in the pile for donation, but the wick advancer knob is too stiff to move. Any suggestions? Your video was clear and very helpful. Thank you.
I just Cut of the corners of the wick and it will make it easy to feed into the burner and then i trim the 5mm away to get rid of those missing corners Btw i have a small burner from a doctors clinic handmade in copper, and it takes a 25mm tubular wick, i was wondering if you know where i Can buy such a wick i would be very thankful if so. Have a nice day Allan from Denmark
HI Allan, thanks for your comment, sorry I just saw it now. Is the 25mm the diameter across the tube or when the wick is flat? Please look up my website and email me directly through there as I will see the msg immediately . Cheers, Ruth.
I cannot for the life of me - do what you did in the beginning of this video. I cannot unscrew that center piece without the crank getting twisted up as it starts to rotate - it's like I'm literally going to break the crank. I'm at a complete loss on how you managed that, (you're unscrewing this at 50 seconds into the video).
Try PB Blaster, that seems to loosen things up a bit. It's a spray oil that dissolves rust and helps free up stuck bolts and things. Don't force things. My outer part of metal where the wick goes, juts lifts off the bottom crank part. There is no turning involved, but it looks very much like this one.
Thank You for your instruction from Germany!
Thank you SO much! Greetings from Denmark 🙏🌹
How clever!! Thank you, Ruth.
Following your instructions made this a breeze on my #14 Kosmos burner. Thank you ma'am, and Happy Thanksgiving from America!
Great tutorial! Thanks for the info!
Thank you for your demonstration, I have an old lamp and didn't know what wick to buy and how to do it. Search everywhere. A big thanks from Portugal

Very instructive and helpful! Thanks very much 😃
Ruth, thank you for a great how to video, I remember struggling to feed the wick in, wish I’d know this.
Thank you! Nice Instruction video!!
Perfect. Exactly the clear, informative (&Australian) video I was hoping to find.
Thank you! ☀
Great video. I just purchased a cosmos oil lamp and had no idea what type of wick to buy or how to thread it into the lamp.

Muy bueno
I bet painters tape - the blue masking type tape, that is not too sticky would work well. But I like your technique.

I soaked my burner in petrol for 24 hours to loosen it up.
