- In 1873, Horatio Spafford wrote the words to the hymn "It is Well with My Soul" after the tragic death of his four daughters. (He wrote it on the ocean while sailing near the
spot where his daughters died.)Very moving.
This will be my message for Women's Conference. I may sing and or have everyone sing after I preach. What amazing courage him and his wife had to go after all this loss and minister tot the Jewish and Muslim people. They were doing INTERFAITH in the late 1800's They are amazing humans and we could all learn from their example of love, compassion for all people! GOD BLESS THEM for the Song and the lives they led to teach us that no matter what happens God is with us and all is well with our souls. NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF..WE CAN LOSE IT ALL AND GOD IS WITH US NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. Praise God for GOD"S GRACE!

Just sang this song in church in the congregation yesterday morning. It was right before my friend and I went up to sing special. By the 3rd verse I was crying. I leaned over to her and said I hope I stop crying before we have to sing. She said he hopes she stops crying too. The song has one of my favorite hymns ever!
God gives his strongest "soldiers" the toughest "wars" God bless this man. I don't know I could be that at peace to write such a beautiful worship and testament to God in the midst of that kind of pain. I know it took a while to cope with losing my father when I was 15 but it did bring God and I closer because he was my refuge. We had a bitter patch but He was understanding.
My father of 89 years recently passed away from a heart attack. The church he went to sang this song and it was so beautiful. It gave me comfort and I was able to carry one through the service without crying. I love the history of the hymn too.

My mother-in-law passed away yesterday morning. I hope we can sing it at her funeral on Monday. I have a feeling I will end up sobbing. But the song reminds us that there is so much more hope for all of us through God's mercy, grace and love.
This hymn is by far my favourite. What happened to Horatio Spafford during his lifetime is tragic: what he did with his pain and how he glorified God throughout is stunningly beautiful. His gift to us--this musical testimony--is inspirational, uplifting, comforting, healing.
I am so amazed that how in full face of suffering, such peace overcomes a person to write such a beautiful song to worship God! Amen.
One of my ALL time favorites. I did not know the history of the song. Now I think I love it even more. This is the goal we should live for, To be able to say It is well... and put your live in the Lords hands and trust Him.

On my way to work one Friday morning, this song popped in my head (spirit). I began to sing it so loudly, with tears streaming I couldn't stop singing.. I felt so overwhelmed, and complete reverence that I had to praise Him right then. Later that afternoon, I received a call from my son (I was still at work). He (19 years old) said, "mom, I just wanted to say thank you. For your love and the sacrifices that you made while raising my sister and I." that Sunday, my son was killed. A month later,
The True & Living God introduced this song to me when our 17 year old son was killed in an auto accident one month before his graduation from High School. He had been accepted into a number of colleges before & after his death. It was not easy for me to write to the colleges and let them know what happened to our son. Nevertheless, God blessed me to learn to play the organ & this was the first song I played. I was awaiting my flight at the airport, a woman introduced herself to me and calmly spoke to me about this song, who wrote it & why......THIS REALLY REALLY REALLY reached my entire being. God truly knows all about us & He always lets me know just how well He already knows me.

This is on eof my favorite hymns. I found myself singing this at my uncle's memorial service a few years ago to encourage my family. I also sang it at my great-great aunt's funeral and sung myself happy.
Even in the mist of tradegy, pain and horror, Lord you are God and You are there. When life seems to not make sense Lord you are there. You never leave us, Lord you are there always. Because of Your awesome power, glory and love we sing for in you my soul is well. I worship you Lord because of who are.

I'm have a difficult time right now, but this hymn keeps going through my mind and I know that no matter what happens, if I trust in God and stand on His word then all will be well.
I once performed the first verse of this song for my college Spanish class...in Spanish the first verse says "De paz inundada mi senda ya este" When my path is inundated by peace...wow. The chorus says "Estoy bien con mi Dios!" I am well with my God...precisely what this amazing song of faith describes. We are well with our God through Christ Jesus our Saviour.

One of my dearest friends sang this song at her dad's funeral. He passed away the week of father's day Her mother had passed away on Mother's Day the year before. I was amazed .at the peace she had during her time of grief.

My soul was imprisoned for seven months. I worked and appeared to be quite well but I was just a shell, a mess, an excuse for a Christian. Today when I was presented with the source of this hymn, I wept I saw myself in the mirror as this man …in inner pains, shame and bottled bitterness that choked me so much. I wept like a baby and surrendered my life to Jesus. It is well with my soul!!!

My eyes are filled with tears. Such tragic lost and yet he was able to write such a touching hymn. Well, not to only write it but to live it as well.
I needed to hear this hymn and I'm so happy to find it displayed in such a way. "With God All Things Are Possible" and he works through every circumstance. I think of my losses and failures, both past and present. But my faith in Jesus whispers "it is well with my soul". And my soul clings to Jesus.

I am not a religious person, but I love this song. It speaks to our shared humanity - - we all face trials and challenges and find different ways of finding strength. It speaks of overcoming the most difficult trials. It speaks of perseverance and peace. Yes, I love this song!

My mother and I both want this played at our funeral. It simply sums it all up. The verse "my sin not in part but in whole" is my favorite also. I think for those who accept Christ this is a great confession.
This song makes me fall to my knees, almost making me cry. Every night my dad would come home depressed because of this economy. Almost to his knees he doesn't doubt at all. He grabs his guitar and starts to sing this song. He sings this song almost crying. And as I sit in my bed listening I pray. Praying for help, God bless my father and God bless my family please.

This was played during my mother's funeral. To this day, I cannot sing this song without weeping. Yet, I know, I feel an inner comfort and know someday I will be reuinted with her someday. Her memory will never leave me and she still comes to visit me in dreams and in songs just like this one.

I heard this song first time in church today at the end of service by the piano player, it struck me in my heart. I am in pain over my 18yr old son whom I had to ask him to leave our home due to his Mariguana use. It gave me me peace!

The amount that he endured...then to turn around and say "it is well with my soul" is just amazing. I think a lot of people could learn a lot from Horatio Spafford. Praise God for such examples, I know people who go though trials but nothing like he went thought but they can't seem to just give it up to God, but this man is just amazing. thank you for posting the wonderful video

Wow - this song really moves me and now that I know the full story behind this song, it brings tears to my eyes but a sense of peace as well. I've also been finding this very comforting since I found it. This version is the best I've found, and it tells the story of why the hymn was made. My father's gone too - since 1999 - but it helps still when I think of him!

This is such an inspiring song and story. It takes great faith to say it is well with my soul amid a tragedy like what Mr. Spafford encountered.
After spending 24 years in church, I am now an atheist. However, the story behind this hymn, and the actual hymn itself have managed to stay with me and move me to tears. No matter what religion you subscribe to, the power behind the words of this man who lost so much cannot be denied.
This is the only song that can bring me to tears at anytime. It was played at my dad's funeral after he was murdered when I was 8 years old.

My heart was in grief, pain and deep sorrow, but when I read this story in other website, it really inspired my faith to learn to accept it and keep my trust to the Lord and say it is well with my soul. It is even more inspiring to see this video. Thanks for upload.
This song brings me great comfort that through tragedy if we will remember God has a divine plan and out trials,/tribulations of this world are nothing compared to the GLORY that awaits HIS children. It's easy to praise God when life is going well but I've learned to praise Him while going through storms and ask for strength to endure and be an ambassador for Christ. The world is watching your actions not your words. Knowing the story behind the song really struck a chord with me and know all things work together for good for them that love him and are called according to his purpose 😍
My brother, when he found he had stage 4 pancreatic and liver cancer, would sing this song as he went around the home. He had accepted Christ as his savior at the age of 12 years.

I learned this hymn when I was young. The melody and lyrics have often come to mind when I have difficult times. I never knew the background story until now. Knowing this the full impact of the song have even greater meaning to me. Thank-you, this was very nicely done!

I always remember, from a very early age, that as Christians I would be called to take up my own Cross. I may not have fully understood that teaching then but would consider, each time life got hard or didn't go to plan (my plan I realize now & not God's) that this must be MY Cross.
What I did understand was to take up my Cross, I agreed to follow Christ to His Father through the Grace of Holy Spirit & that I would remain true in my Soul through my whole life, particularly in times of trial ♥†♥

Im sitting here crying cause this song means alot to me. I was christian and Im athiest now too. As Im crying Im really disapointed there is no god. lol but it is what it is. this is a wonderful song, same with How Great thou art. these were two of my favorites and no matter how much I know there is no god, they still bring me to tears.

I love this song! I know there are people who don't like Christians like me. Since i got Saved God gave me a clean slate as if i had never sinned.... Just to be clear after i got saved it didnt mean oh now im perfect and im better than any other person! As a Christian we are told to be Christ like or to be more like Christ not in being perfect but to be kind,humble,meek,compassionate, like Christ was and Christ or Jesus is still very much alive! I like to believe there is a God then to not believe and find out there is! Honestly im not gonna "press" my religion on somebody thats their choice to make wether they want to believe or not and that decision is between them and God.
