What a true athlete. You have to be extremely good at this to make these "mistakes" seem genuine. I laughed so hard and was in awe of his talent at the same time.
From the age of talented entertainers. According to wiki he lived into his 90's and taught this stuff in a university! Great video. My 8 year old loves it.
God, I'm sore from just watching. They should do something like this in the Olympics' gymnastics competition. Grade on originality, difficulty and low injury count. The gold medal would go to the one who truly makes every move look like an accident or mistake.
Fantastic. A little before my time. He acts so clumsy and falls down so often, yet he makes it look so real. Just amazing. Thanks for that snippet of a time gone by. p.s. Didn't know Sinatra had his own show.
I am grateful for the memory...even though this act was filmed just 32 days before I was even born...it still is a good memory of very talented people who could entertain the world without crude sexual or vulgar actions to keep the attention of its audience.
My dad sent this to me. Wow, you can't help but smile. Funny, entertaining, and leaves you wanting more. And to think no cussing in the comedy routine. I want more. Thanks for the video.
WOW! Received a link to this video in an email being passed around. Everyone should see this great talent! So glad this is still around and being shared these days. Thank you.
Excellent. There is no other word I can use for this. Simply excellent. Everything in this routine was perfect. The fact that he could pull this off and still have enough breath to talk fast. This guy must have been one of the greatest athletes ever. He's funny, clever, and athletic. A perfect comedian through and through.
THAT is what vaudeville was all about! A FANTASTIC act. Spectacular timing. Nothing like him today. Thanks so much for posting this for a new generation to appreciate.
It was easy to entertain people back in the day. But what do you give someone who has everything? Someone who's seen it all? The best music that will ever be heard has been sung. The best stories have already been told more than once. We've been played in so many ways that what's old is new again means we forgot what we watched last year. Baseball, football, basketball, golf, soccer, and tennis are not getting better as much as they are getting old. Save us from ourselves, Larry!
If my dad were alive he would have absolutely loved this, but who knows, he may have seen the original TV performance. Your grandpa had pure genius, like Harold Lloyd!
Physical comedy is one of those things that just never get old. Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, The Three Stooges, etc. all of these acts are just as funny now as they were when they were made. Slapstick comedy is timeless :)
Innovative physical comedy, I was sent this as a link and watched early in the morning, a good laugh first thing and until today I hadn't heard of Larry. Brilliantly and funny.
Larry Griswald, (September 17, 1905 - August 24, 1996), What a fine acrobat, athlete, but perhaps more importantly one of the greatest clowns ever. In our world of plastic audience reaction tracks when you listen to this audience the difference is obvious.
Il était aux Folies Bergère de Paris en Attraction quand j'y étais à mon époque , il avait même eu un accident le pauvre . Excellente attraction ce Larry Griswold C'était dans les années I966/69 Robert BRUMMEL
Totally amazing stuff. Larry's comedic timing, skill and athleticism is second to none. When you hear the phrase "TV is the box they buried Vaudeville in" now you see why. Larry could have performed the same routines every night to different audiences for life. Bringing joy to each and everyone who saw him get better and better each time. Put him on tv and millions see him and want somthing new. After all that. Shame. The sooner we all stop vegetating in front if the box and get out to see
In no where SD I took my 3 1/2 year old daughter to a one tent circus. They had a guy doing this this. it was amAAAAzing. But every kid under 4, mine included, were howlling in fright.
Yes, those were the good old days, and yes, it was possible to laugh at things that are wholesome, and it still is! The problem is that Hollywood writers target kids who want to grow up fast and be 'cool'. And hey! It is still very cool to have good manners, ambition, and courage to stand away from the crowd and see the world differently. And even more cool is to have a family that shares quality time together. The good old days can be had today. Set limits to the things that divide families.
Out of things that are good, this is best. Haha. Freakin hilarious! Then at the end when he was actually really talented at the flips I was amazed. Why have I not heard of this guy before!?
Larry Griswald - RIP I have been told that Jim Carrey got a lot of his inspiration in physical comedy from this guy. It would explain Jim's early comedy.

Great video. My 8 year old loves it.
I am 71 and love him too!
Thats kinda amazing skills. Acting, and performing at the same time, with no mistakes really visible.
God, I'm sore from just watching. They should do something like this in the Olympics' gymnastics competition. Grade on originality, difficulty and low injury count. The gold medal would go to the one who truly makes every move look like an accident or mistake.
That's great! Thanks for sharing.
That first "fall" really took me by surprise!
Larry was my dad's 1st cousin- he was a great talent & a wonderful person-- he is missed by all who knew him
man u have to be amazing to make something uve trained for so long look bad and dangerous and keep yourself from getting hurt...pure skill
That was brilliant. Thank goodness we still have these performances on video.
All I can say is WOW! I have never seen anything like Larry in my life. What a fine gift you gave us all. Amazing talent.
2020 and I still come back to watch this
First time I've heard of Larry Griswold. What a great act!
Great old clip. Thanks for sharing.
As a stuntwoman of 30 years, I have nothing but respect & honor for Larry Griswold! He was a true performer!
Amazing. The talent and athleticism coupled with no telling how many hours of practice make this a real classic.
Pure physical comedy and slapstick humor. You were scared and laughing at the same time.
Fantastic. A little before my time. He acts so clumsy and falls down so often, yet he makes it look so real. Just amazing. Thanks for that snippet of a time gone by.

Not to mention, he's 46 years old.
That was incredible. Physical comedy has devolved into Hollywood actors walking into trees, parking meters and open car doors. This was awesome.
I KEPT SCREAMING EVERY TIME HE FALLS!!! XD
That guy has the most amazing stage presence and is one hell of an entertainer.
Excellent. There is no other word I can use for this. Simply excellent. Everything in this routine was perfect. The fact that he could pull this off and still have enough breath to talk fast. Amazing skill! That is one of the funniest comedy bits I've ever seen.
That was excellent showmanship, and excellent stunt work.
Wow! What an athlete!

I just shared this with my 2nd grader and my pre-schooler-- they cackled with laughter all the way through. Thank you for posting!

Easily golden television. I wish we could have TV like this again. Clean, good, and no worries.
I love the way he does his whole act in a suit and tie...AND hat! Yet he takes off his shoes and socks...lol never loses the hat either.
If my dad were alive he would have absolutely loved this, but who knows, he may have seen the original TV performance. Your grandpa had pure genius, like Harold Lloyd!
A truly amazing feat, That act would be huge in Vegas today. My kids and I laughed our butts off

LARRY GRISWOLD. É UMA PENA QUE ESSE TEMPO NÃO VOLTA MAIS.
Prople were so easily entertained back in the day.
Innovative physical comedy, I was sent this as a link and watched early in the morning, a good laugh first thing and until today I hadn't heard of Larry. Brilliantly and funny.
I want to know how this guy survived practicing this routine...
Crazy skills. Incredible.
Amazing talent

Ta for posting. What a talent - incredible fitness, and lived to 91-odd!
Absolutely fantastic! You don't see acts like this anymore. Bring back vaudeville!
In no where SD I took my 3 1/2 year old daughter to a one tent circus. They had a guy doing this this. it was amAAAAzing. But every kid under 4, mine included, were howlling in fright.

Not only the greatest artists in his field, but also the greatest artists ever!
George Carl
In 1973, Griswold had a fall while performing in Chicago and suffered a career-ending injury.
Really fun and entertaining. Just sets the day with a smile on my face.

Hilarious! A real comic and acrobatic artist.
Absolute artistry. Had me laughing hard. Wow, they just don't do it that way anymore. Great stuff.
That's great! Thanks for sharing.
OUCH OUCH OUCH!!!!! My arthritis kicked in just watching this!!!
No matter how prepared I'm sure he gets bruises
There's something to be said for the marvel of special effects...and also the lack thereof!
This guy is really good.
They do not do things as good as this any more.
those days saw the true laborious talents
Out of things that are good, this is best. Haha. Freakin hilarious! Then at the end when he was actually really talented at the flips I was amazed. Why have I not heard of this guy before!?
