  • Favorites, dislikes, tips and stories - this video contains everything about my expensive(?) hobby of collecting fountain pens and inks 🖋️
    I think of them as tools - they are my writing tools which I love so much. But collecting a lot of different kind of tools can get expensive if you don’t set any limits. Luckily I have always the limit of my budget and also all other rules and restrictions that I set for myself 😅
    This is what I have bought in three years - and I don’t think my collection is complete yet 😉
    I hope you enjoy this lengthy video 😊
    Let me know what is your favorite fountain pen and ink 💖
    Or are you still in the dreaming phase of only thinking about maybe getting one?
    P.S. I realized I did my math wrong - I have in total 25 fountain pens 🫣 3 + 22 bought 🤭

    I love your idea for your ink journal where you can see a pen with different inks and an ink with different pens. I am thinking I might have to do this too

      Thank you 😊 I have that ink journal now going strongly and I love to update it every time I have inked a pen 👍🏼

    This video was very relaxing to watch. How neat that you used fountain pens at school! Watching this made me want to dive into my collection and use my pens! Thanks for sharing. 😊

      Thanks 😊 I'm so happy to hear that you got inspired to use your pens. It seems we have one shared pen/ink combo - Preppy EF with Carbon ink - you just have changed a nicer outfit for your pen 😅 That was a nice tip - I didn't know that the Preppy and Plaisir are interchangeable 👍🏼

    So you resisted the rabbit hole of expensive fountain pens, that‘s really an accomplishment … I wasn’t so lucky… ;) I can attest to the fact that German kids still learn how to use fountain pens in school and that’s also what I used back in the 70s. They never left me. My first one was a Pelikano in red. Now my favourite Pelikan is the M1000 with a fine nib, though I love all my Pelikans. They are piston fillers, though… not for you, I guess. Did you try a TWSBI ? If you prefer converters, the Swipe is a good alternative to the ECO. I have a small Kaweco Collection as well, but I am more for the broader nibs (M and B, sometimes an F if it writes wet enough) because I want to see the properties of my inks. Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Goldgrün is a classic that everyone should try at least once… the shading is phenomenal. Regarding my favourite combo at the moment, I would say it‘s my Scribo La Dotta Campanula with a medium 18K nib paired with Private Reserve Arabian Rose. Thanks for sharing and write on ! 🖋️

      Well, I can't say it was an accomplishment - it's only due to my budget limitations. I just don't have the money now to pay three figure numbers for pens. And also - I don't want to pay so much if I'm not sure I like the nib so that is why I started from the cheapest end and work my way up now slowly.
      I have never been tempted by TWISBI's for one stupid reason - I don't like red so I don't like their logo on the pens 😅 And also the filling mechanism is a no go so it's an easy pass for me. But limitations are great because they help in decision making 😉
      Wow - that looks like a perfect pen and ink combination 👍🏼 For that kind of price I would had to save for at least 6 months all of my stationery money... that thought makes me a bit dizzy 😅
      Thanks for commenting 🙏🏻 You must have an awesome collection judging from those two pens you mentioned 😊

    Wow! I’m so glad I found your channel! I just love your enthusiasm! I too ha e spent alot of money in my fountain pen supply collection! I do have a couple expensive pens but most are Pilot Metros, Lamy Al-Stars, and Jinhaos. Although I do love my Kaweco Brass, such a fun pen! But honestly - I think my favorite thing about your video are the crocheted cases! Did you make them yourself and if so would you be willing to do a tutorial on it? Crocheting is another hobby of mine, and pen cases can even be pricey - more than the price of the pen!!! Anyway! Love the video! Keep is updated! God bless you! ❤😊🇺🇸

      Oh, thank you for your kind words 🙏🏻 Haha, the cases that I didn't even mention stole the show 😂 Yes, I have made those myself - except for the pink one. My mum made that one over 30 years ago 🥰 I don't know about a tutorial 😬 For me crocheting is a way to relax and be creative. I don't even like or use patterns myself because I hate following instructions so I don't even know any crocheting vocabulary 😅 I like the trial and error method and I keep my crocheting very simple because that is the only way I know and have patience for 😊

    32:51 The Senator President fountain pen..a big German fountain pen, was launched to the market as a direct competitor of the Montblanc 149 Diplomat model but it was unsuccessful in sales. It sells today from $125 USD / 115 euro.. up.. to $290 USD / 268 Euro.

      For me personally a tarot journal is to write down what tarot card or cards I pulled and ponder what those cards maybe want to tell me. For me it's a self-reflection tool and even a bit like self-therapy. If I'm stuck with something, the cards help me process things. That's what is to me.
      I went looking and you are right. There are similar looking pens sold on huge prices on the internet. I just feel that mine has to be a cheap copy. For me at least it doesn't seem like such a valuable pen... I don't know. I'm confused. If it is real, it's the most valuable fountain pen I own - and I don't even use it 😅 It's just deco. Maybe I need to test it out again, but I need to carefully think what ink I would put inside. I'm a bit afraid of the filling mechanism, and will I ever get it clean again after using it.

      Oh yes, I still love my Souboku and Seiboku inks 💙 They are on the expensive side so if you can get samples or I think they also sell them nowadays in cartridges, that would be a good way to test them out first. I think it depends so much on the pen / nib and paper you use, what inks work and what doesn’t. And then it’s also of course up to you what colors you like. But finding a pen + ink + paper combo that works is such a big joy 💖

      Yes, samples seem to be the way to go with things! I didn't think too much about the pen + ink combo, but reflecting on that, that is so true & I need to experiment more! The joys of the journey! My pleasure! 😺 @@Katiplans

      My current favourite fountain pen is the Sailor Pro Gear Slim in fine pink gold with a medium fine (MF) nib. It’s the the pen I use to write in my PaperTess Designs Weekly Notebook - it just writes so smoothly, and I love that my writing looks good with it regardless whether I write print or cursive. My favourite ink - mmh, difficult question because I like the variety more than I like one specific ink. I would say Pelikan Edelstein Collection: Smoky Quartz (a pretty shade of brown), though.

      Probably Twsbi Eco Rose Gold in F paired with Diamine's Ancient Copper. I also love Kaweco Sports!

      I can't say I have an ultimate favourite pen and ink. I have too many pens ( soon 100 pens 🙄😅) and ink that I'm trying out. Right now I'm loving the Sailor 1911 four season wave sakura with fine nib. I put sailor black ink in it. Write very smooth and I like the nib size. I'm trying out my newest pen Platinum #3776 century with an ultra extra fine nib, I pared it with Diamine Writers blood. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess I need to try it with Noodler's Lexington grey to see how I feel about that combo.
      Well I do love my Pelikan M205 olive that I use Pelikan Edelstein olive ink. I must say i like that combo.

      @Katiplans  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @jessplansandwrites I wonder if the nibs get better in Sailors if the pen is more expensive or is the nib the same in all prices (discounting of course if it is made of a different material)... Just wondering what is better if you pay hundreds of euros vs. 30 euros...
      That Pelikan ink does look nice 👍🏼 Do you know anything about their longevity? Like do they fade out over time or is it pretty safe to write with them in a journal you would like to last readable for a long time?

      Thank you for commenting 😊 I didn't even mention the pouch because for me it's just a place to hold my pens - and actually I did the pouch originally for my passport TN but it also works nicely for my everyday use pens 😅

    Thanks for sharing! Kids are still taught to write with fountain pens in German elementary schools, which is also how I first encountered them (in the shape of a Pelikan pen for lefties).
    Noodler‘s inks are sooo wet - I use Noodler‘s American Eel (black) in my PaperTess Designs Weekly Notebook and I hate that it takes aaages to dry on Tomoe River Paper! Would love to switch to Lindsey‘s go-to, De Atramentis Archive Ink, but I have that 88ml bottle of American Eel and I set myself the goal to empty it! 💪 So I will probably make that switch in five years or so… 😂😅
    I also love Altgoldgrün - such a pretty shade of green! 💚 - and I also have the Kaweco Iridescent Pearl. With Kaweco pens, F is my preferred nib size. M is too broad, in my opinion, and EF is too scratchy.

    • @Katiplans
      @Katiplans  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Oh, I have missed that information that Noodler's are all very wet. I kinda like it - and kinda not. I find in Tomoe River it's not a problem if we are not talking about drying time 😅 because there is no bleed through or feathering but with MD it is a problem... But I realized I need to stop using the Pilot Kakuno EF with Lexington Gray on MD in my TN and just use it happily in my Weeks - problem solved. But interesting to see how the new Sanzen will work with it 🤔
      I have Lindsey's ink also on my ink wish list 😅 and I don't now remember why I decided against it when starting out with inks. It was an option then, I do remember that, but I went with the Carbon ink. Maybe I need to reconsider my choice of black ink 😅

    • @jessplansandwrites
      @jessplansandwrites Před 8 měsíci

      @@Katiplans The PaperTess Designs notebooks and planners are made with the new TRP-S paper. In terms of "no bleedthrough", I see no difference, but the drying time is a bit faster and the shading of inks is less vibrant.
      I'm by no means an expert, but American Eel is a wet ink and the only other Noodler's ink I have, Polar Brown, BLEEDS THROUGH TRP! 😱 The old one; haven't been keen on trying it out with TRP-S paper. I've still got some Cosmo Air Light paper which handles it well; going to use it with that.

      This may have been a bad idea to make this video, because now I'm so tempted to get more pens and inks 😅 I have been happily in my own bubble but now I'm so tempted to start looking around for something better 🫣
