4:00 The blur looks off because it's a "Box blur" not a "Gaussian Blur", which is what you're looking at most of the time.
Box blur averages color values of pixels in a box-shaped neighborhood around pixels. It's very "cheap" to render/calculate/compute because it's just basic arithmetic.
Gaussian blur uses a Gaussian function to get a smoother weighted average of nearby pixels. Looks better but takes more resources.
Yeah, which is why I think they'll keep it this way.
gotta appreciate them opting for performance in the menus...
interesting
I feel like the type of blur should depend on your graphics settings
If they really wanted to, I'm sure they could just make it a setting to change how it blurs. Overall I think it is a good change because it could possibly give resource packs and modpacks more control over this.

I really dislike this distancing from the public companies have. Notch used to take feedback all the time and even go to community servers, it truly felt like you were able to talk to the creator and give feed back. Now everything happens so distanced from us, away in some dark room, only occasionally revealed for press releases or updates, never truly transparent.
it eventually made Notch depressed because all the negative backlash was adressed at him personally as well
@@c1oudsky Absolutely that's a massive aspect of it. 6:45 I kind of want something like this for minecraft, but the opposite. When you come out of the dark the game brightens up a lot more temporarily, before coming back down. I always liked that dilation effect in videogames, making it look like your eyes are adjusting to the light.
I’m pretty sure there are shaders that can do exactly that, although that’s on top of all the additional lighting that shaders come with
@@christhebear2003 That may be true. but some people either don't want to mod minecraft for that feature or their computers can't handle shaders very well, or they only want the eye adjustment shader and nothing else, so it would still be nice to just have some kind of vignette that appears that makes everything bright momentarily for that effect without being performance heavy

the dirt backgroud was nostalgic :(
And I thought nobody cared
The fact that the only argument that people have against this change is "nostalgia" is insane. Just don't play the newer version if you hate change so much???
I like that the dirt is the same background Bedrock edition always uses to load the overworld. That's where the portal goes!
Using the dirt background in the credits actually tells you what's happening. You're going back to the overworld. (I don't think that part is intentional, but it's nice.)
There's a whole pattern for portals. The nether loads with netherrack, the end loads with endstone, and the overworld always loads with dirt.

Kind of a shame that the dirt background is removed honestly, i really liked it because it offered a sense of safety and comfort, similar to when you turn to face the wall while trying to sleep.
that's such a good way to describe it though
Good
For me, the new background feels too open and vulnerable, and is also super distracting from the settings and worlds/server lists
So is the dirt background completely gone?
It's kinda funny, because Bedrock edition always uses it while loading the world when you return from a portal.
@@JamieEllias the video metions, you can get it back by switching to the programer art resource pack that comes with minecraft.
However, you will also get all the other old minecraft textures.
For me this isn't a great solution as I like the new textures but also perfer the dirt background.
I feel like instead of the blur they should've just used the same darkening effect that the inventory screens and the old pause menu already have, just apply it to more menus. It allows you to clearly see what's happening in front of you while still separating the background from the menu. The only place I think the blur looks nice is on the main menu panorama, and not only because it's more interesting to look at while selecting and loading a world, but also for the nostalgia of the original pre-1.13 blurry menu panorama.
The End Poem change is fine on paper, but I think it's failing to account for the fact that the end portal texture is generally only seen on a relatively small portion of the screen, and having it cover the entirety of it makes it WAY too detailed and noisy, especially for a simple background. Maybe if they zoomed in on it to show more of the empty space between the "stars" it would look better. I still think the dirt was just fine, though, and it really made it feel like distinctly a part of Minecraft.
So basically, they're messing with accessibility and vision. Yeah, that's gonna be great... I already have issues with viewing text and seeing in the game (even at max brightness, I struggle to see when mining quite frequently unless I have torches like... every 4 blocks). Mojang there are people who are LITERALLY BLIND who play your game, you did a feature on one of them. Don't fuck with the ability to see things...
EDIT: An easy fix for the end poem would be to put a black box behind the text, leaving the rest with the end portal effect. Because the end portal effect looks great! It just makes the text unreadable. :/
they used to let you turn your gamma up wayyy high which helped with mining visibility, but now it doesn't go nearly as high
I know it's a very common saying now that "Minecraft is losing its soul", but let's be honest... even such a small change as removing the dirt from the background to make it more in-line with more modern games takes away from the game's identity, even if only slightly. And that's just... sad.

It really scares me when they try to use bedrock stuff as the standard for what the game should be. I mean, they're taking notes from a version where bugs that they know exist are kept in the game even though they're game breaking, like falling through the world after a specific distance or just randomly dying because the game decided it was gonna store your fall damage and then apply it all at once. This is not the version to be taking notes from Mojang.
Yeah, but it's also the version where they can sell you mods. Of course they're gonna use it as the base, Microsoft wants paid.
to be fair, just because SOME things in bedrock are bad doesn't mean ALL things in bedrock are bad - why not take the (admittedly, few) things bedrock does better than java and put those into java?
@@theocelotninja1028 no thanks bedrock player
It's really weird. A lot of decisions on Bedrock were made with seemingly relatively little thought, or to be simply different to Java. @@basic6735if it were a good game company, no one would have to be this upset
Plenty of games with big fanbases have undergone large changes since their release while still appeasing most of that fanbase.
Unfortunatly, the company in charge of Minecraft is greedy, so instead of trying to make a game that their pre-existing playerbase will enjoy, they are trying to make a game that appeals to people who have not yet bought the game--and people who will buy microtransactions.
This is not a good long term buisness strategy, and it makes the statement "I like Minecraft" meaningless. Alpha, 1.12.2, and the upcoming 1.21 are fundementally different games with different gameplay loops.

I mean, that might apply to, say, human aging since it's totally non-negotiable, but it's not as if Mojang had to make this alteration to Minecraft. Nobody was holding them at gunpoint. Nobody asked for this or wanted this, so why embrace it?
I'm genuinely surprised how little I like the removal of the dirt background. I've always associated it with the menu and loading screens, and it became an integral part of the Minecraft experience after seeing it for 10+ years. I thought it wouldn't be that different, but it completely put me off upon seeing it, lol.
Please if no one makes a texture pack that brings back the old back round I will learn how to make texture packs myself and i will bring it back.
Ive been saying it for 5 years. Minecraft is being ruined.
"New" minecraft sucs
Kinda
Brings you back to alpha minecraft with that dirt background on EVERY MENU xD
High contrast is now a challenge mode 😂
they are making look like bedrock, disqusting
Pre wrote command structure options 🔥🔥🔥
Commands changes are gonna be huge
I like the new changes, the new credits background looks awesome.
I like the new updated look, I think it look very neat!
I think the menu changes look really nice
The chat bleeding into other menus and previous opaque backgrounds applying to the pause menu is strange, but the blurred background looks alot nicer than the dirt and the end portal being on the credits just makes more sense.
R.i.p dirt it felt so og especially with the credits it takes you back from the start
I know one previous case of enchantments working on something they can't usually be on was tridents with melee enchantments - sharpness, for example, worked on it's melee attack (as it does on any item it's forced onto) but it ALSO worked on the trident's projectile shot, increasing the ranged damage too. I'd assume it's likely due to how the trident is coded to handle melee enchants since impaling also seems to work the same way. I'd also have to wonder if multishow will now cause multiple tridents to be thrown and if that will just result in trident duplication...
Last time i went in the end portal in bedrock it had the dirt background, so the credits change is just artistic ig, and the no dirt background in the main menu is def for parity
I dont understand why people hate the UI change. It's honestly refreshing to not have to stare at the dirt texture while I change my controls for a modpack or configuring mods.
Hell, Ive been changing that background with mods like bedrockify, which I feel nails what mojang should be going for here.
I've also played around with vannilaextras to change the block for years.
The biggest point against it is probably accesibility, which will probably be resolved before full release.
people dosent like change sadly
huh, did not expect the reactions to this change. I somewhat like it, not equally everywhere but I think it looked alright for the main menu
5:06 Don’t worry, you can still find the minecraft dirt.png on the internet.
The multishot bow reminds me of the official guide books
I like the background change, it looks a lot better now, but it should be togglable for people that preffer the old one
1:50 As a fellow potatoman. I got excited for a second then I realised he wasnt talking about me
Omygod this actually helped I was playing in my snapshot world with high contrast on and I fucked all my settings trying to fix it
The next layer of progression after tools and armor:
Accessories:
It Increases player’s stats like hit points, block reach, jump hieght, inventory slots… . An Additional heart icons will appear for the player.
Accessories are crafted with blocks of ore (blocks of diamond, iron…) and unique loot from epic dungeons.
They have levels just like tools and armor according to the ore it’s made of, just like armor and tools.
They are spread through the dimension they are useful for, for example to craft the one who extends block reach, one should go to caves(trail chambers), adding inventory slots -> the end, adding breath points/bubbles oceans and adding hit points/hearts -> warden dimension… .
I refuse to play modern Minecraft without the dirt background. I will always replace the texture file or find a mod that fixes the background
This is actually really useful for seeing if your game is frozen or not :D
I've never been a fan of making textures more simplified to the point where it feels like they are using the equivalent to the paint bucket tool on MS paint.
In the end of the video that texture pack and how it adjust light make it look fun for actual survival were the dark is dark and the torch bright it a little like a realtorth. Like a realistic mod for lighting
I wish they brought back those flying blocks in the main menu title from Alpha.
Didn't play the game at that time yet, but it looks great.
as much as ill miss the dirt background, the credits having the end portal as the background is SO sick
i wonder, if the screen geting dark is a resource pack thing, i wonder if you could within the resource pack somehow reverse it to kinda simulate a way for the player to adjust to the light of the game
like its normal on the surface but when you go into a dark area it makes everything look brighter isntead of darker, and when you place down lightsources it makes it darekr again. might be a cool idea if it works
I really enjoy the new backgrounds
