    Rick Ware Racing is more of a meme then the loveable back markers of NASCAR however their ability to somehow participate in every known form of motorsport is impressive.

      The problem with the Cup team is that the sponsors and Rick kept picking mid or bad drivers to drive his cars.

    Austin Dillion appearance did make some sense. NASCAR drivers sometimes use the Daytona 24 to improve their road course skills. With NASCAR adding more road courses on the calendar, Dillon probably felt like he could use more practice.

    • @K9RacingAndStuff
      @K9RacingAndStuff Před 4 měsíci +7

      Why couldn't he just do the 4 hour MPC race in the Rebelrock Camaro like a normal NASCAR driver though. Or what Ford does every year at Daytona.
      He says before remembering that GM kinda doesn't care about customer racing and the only reason why the Corvette GT3 even exists is because literally everything has forced their hand.

    Oh, but consider the previous attempt that RWR tried with Algarve Pro Racing. In a Riley-Multimatic.
    Ultimately it didn't pan out because Multimatic had a parts shortage and couldn't supply the team with a spare rear end, which Rick attributed to them prioritizing Mazda, and the lineup wasn't as wacky, but yeah.
    Also tbf this was in the era of Cup drivers being hyped to do road courses. After all, this was the same race with Chase Elliott and Jimmie Johnson in it in separate DPis

    For a driver that's usually known as a walking meme in the NASCAR world Cody Ware is actually pretty decent in prototype cars.
    Along with the 4th place here in Daytona he also has 2 wins in the Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 Pro-Am class along with the class championship. Currently, he races LMP3s in the IMSA VP Sportscar Challenge where in only 2 starts he got 1 podium.

    I like how saying Yoluc was inexperienced in LMP2's at the time, and now he just got upgraded to Silver rank due to how much he stomped the field in LMP2 Pro/Am in ELMS(admittedly he lost the title, but that was a mistake he made at Portimao and reliability problems at Aragon that sniped it away).

  • @Kingofweasles
    @Kingofweasles Před 4 měsíci +12

    OK, while I generally enjoy your content, I have to say that you need to make at least a few more videos on this subject. While in terms of sheer weirdness in the modern era, Yes the Eurasia Motorsport with Rick Ware Racing Ligier LMP2 was the most unusual entry in 2020.
    HOWEVER! This car/driver combo doesn't even come close to some of the weirdest entries the Daytona 24 Hours has seen across its vast history. From the 1990s with the likes of the front-engined Cannibal WSC to the Mosler raptor GT1 that ran in 1998 with a "Split Windshield" design that made it look like a boat, to the "Pepsi Challenger" Aston-Martin Nimrod Group C car with NASCAR royalty driving... All way back to 1970, when somebody entered a homebuilt car based off of a Formula Vee chassis, powered by a Porsche engine and sporting a modified Meyers Manx dune-buggy body!
    There are several other choices you could've made here. This one, in my humble opinion, doesn't clear any of them.

Not even weird that nascar guys raced an lmp2. Hell kyle petty was racing a porsche gt1 in 2001. Speaking of IMSA. You could do an in depth review of the visit Floridas trial by fire with the Riley P2, given they were somewhat moderately successful with it and the only team to have one outside of Riley tech. They switched mid season and I think the switch and a crash sent them bankrupt.
