    LYRICS:
2.5 million years ago, a friend of mine
Made a tool from a stone and defended his tribe
It’s technology, sorry for the technical term
It’s a wheel, then a fire and the rest is a blur
Throw a theorized plot in the pot with applied science
Let it sit, I bet it streamlines your environs
What’s a resource local to the grotto
The method isn’t free until the mechanism follow
    That’s technology, innovate a difference
A feat of engineering, a system made efficient
There isn’t a condition, complication, or revision
Where the answer ain’t to build a more sophisticated widget
Idget, tired of games, Bronze Age, Iron Age
Weaponry in stellar form, shelter finer by the day
Live stock and vegetables in rows behind the hideaway
Mesopotamia out the muhfuckin' lion cage
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat
You take a lever and a pulley and a winch and a wedge
You get a labyrinth of aqueducts and pyramid steps
Before the Jesus, Archimedes on that miracle tech
Year zero, you could feel the future rearing its head
Put a shoe on a horse, shoot a man with a gun
    Steampower, bifocals, and mechanical funk
Manipulate electricity, no it can not be done
Yes it can, ain’t a dam that could cancel the flood
True to human curiosity, at the tree of knowledge
Pulling genies out of bottles, stealing from Leonardos
Plane train auto, hauling space age cargo
    Bizarro technology, everyday is tomorrow
Telegraph, telephone, you could flirt with Doris
In Poughkeepsie from a cozy geodesic dome in Sydney
You can write a letter with no paper
You could fix anything with a laser
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat
You could get a robot limb for your blown off limb,
Later on the same technology could automate your gig
    As awesome as it is
Wait It gets awful, you could split a atom willy-nilly
If it’s energy that can be used for killing then it will be
It’s not about a better knife, It’s chemistry and genocide
And medicine for tempering the heck in the projector light
Landmines, agent orange, leaded gas, cigarettes
Cameras in your favorite corners, plastic in the wilderness
We can not be trusted with the stuff that we come up with
The machinery could eat us, we just really just love our buttons
Ummm... technology, focus on the other shit
3D-printed body parts, dehydrated onion dip
You could buy a jet-ski from a cell phone on a jumbo jet
    T-E-C-H-N-O-L-O-G-Y, it’s the ultimate
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
If it's out of the bag, then it's out of bag
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat
Now that is a powerful cat

@@voyagerwitch I was thinking that since the song was called mindful solutionism it was about how we're pretty good at making stuff as a species. Everyone focuses on this line, I think that ignores the rest of the song. Our goal should be to keep inventing, keep the onward march of technology going, but be mindful of what we create and to think hard about how we really want the world to work. Be greatful for the fucking dehydrated onion dip son.

    • @voyagerwitch
      @voyagerwitch Před 9 měsíci +12

@@titusjames4912 god that's so funny. no, man. "mindful solutionism" means being mindful (careful, present) of how you go about solving problems. it's also meant to sound like some silicon valley business jargon garbage that wouldn't mean anything. also, it's not just the one verse. the whole song is extremely sarcastic and menacing.
"if it's out of the bag, then it's out of the bag": after you put an idea or technology in the world, you can't control how it's used
"yes it can; ain't a dam that could cancel the flood": it's a flood that can't be stopped. a cataclysm.
"weaponry in stellar form, shelter finer by the day": juxtaposing modern convenience with the motherfucking death star
"at the tree of knowledge, pulling genies out of bottles": getting knowledge that will destroy your innocence, getting the ability to grant wishes you can't predict the results of
the whole song, not just the one verse, is about how technology isn't good and it's not evil either. it's POWERFUL, and power will be used.

Man i've always shat on A$AP for, from my point of view, blatantly ripping off Aesops' name.
I mean, ok you got Aesop and ASAP. That's fine i guess.
Then he made it into ASAP ROCKY
      Like dude
      That's not a coincedence.
Hoping it was meant as an homage or something. Would be weird if it's a diss. I've learned to kinda let it go over the years, like it seemed like he was tryina cash off of of Aesops name and that. But now i see more like, ASAP is just a guy doing his best for the game and all that. Man has been putting in a lot of work and has become a lot more humble in recent years. I actually like ASAP now but i kinda do wanna ask him if he sees Aesop as like a source of inspiration or otherwise what the name is about. @@brianwalkosz9567
I mean i'm soon to be on the up and coming and was thinking of going by ''Robotron the funky sage'' as an homage to Deltron (and the other trons in the tron family, lol)
Also things is pretty wild. I started writing raps a couple of weeks ago and now i got all these rappers kinda helping me out and i'm gonna have to write a huge list of people to thank in the songs i write.
Seriously even DRAKE has kinda reached out for me and Eminem stole my bars from my graffiti so this is getting wild.
I consider myself as something of an apprentice to Aesops work. Dude's been teaching me ever since i started listening and now things are clicking into place.

I think the main problem is that we allow the ruling class to generate and implement culture for us. We're not the ones coming up with a lot of it. But they also usurp the culture that people generate ourselves, they exploit, distort and bastardize it and it becomes a mutant. And there's really no counter culture to this. The world was put on autopilot.

Aes is definitely not saying we never make anything productive. As that is blatantly untrue. This song is about the good and the bad of technology and its power to effect us as well as it's total inevitability because it's existence originates back to our roots as part of natural survival instinct and evolution. The cat is technology. It's out of the bag, it exists. There is no going back. "Ain't a dam that could cancel the flood" it's a solution we developed to certain problems, but it Is often a new problem of it's own, which in turn in overcome by another solution. The flood.

Fuuuck, the "its a powerful cat" line is clever as hell
Once you observe shrödinger's cat, you colapse the superposition of alive and dead, and the cat is known as either dead or alive. Theres no undoing that. If its out of the bag, its out of the bag.

    • @soulstudiosmusic
      @soulstudiosmusic Před 4 měsíci +3

No, it's just an extension of the expression "The cat's out of the bag". There's no implied quantum connection in the lyrics, of course people are welcome to come up with their own nuance on it, but objectively it's not in there. He's speaking about technology in general being the cat.

@@dragonblood0012 Oh yeah, completely agree. A guy writing a song about tech and science that talks about nukes and lasers is almost certainly aware of the Schrodinger's cat idea, it's a super common physics idea in pop culture. Given that it's the main hook of the song, there's no way it isn't something more clever than a surface level play on "cats out of the bag", especially from Aesop. I'm pretty certain it's an intentional double entendre, rap is all about that kind of wordplay.

Most songs have an amazing flow, but I have to really think and reflect to really start to get it (or at least think I’m getting it). This one was super straightforward though. It was awesome, but some part of me wants to hear those cryptic lyrics every time and have to think hard to figure them out even while words flow over the beat like water and I am jamming.

Also, lets use some tech to summarize
    ChatGPT Summarize:
The lyrics provide a commentary on the history, evolution, and impact of technology on human civilization. It starts with the early tools made millions of years ago and travels through major technological milestones, such as the discovery of fire, the construction of pyramids, to more modern inventions like telegraphs and telephones. It addresses both the positives, like improved infrastructure and communication, and the negatives, like weapons of mass destruction and invasion of privacy.
Historical Context: The song takes listeners on a journey through the ages, highlighting key technological advancements - from simple stone tools to more complex inventions like the pyramids, telephones, and even 3D printing.
Dual Nature of Technology: The lyrics reflect on the dichotomy of technology. On one hand, it’s a marvel, improving lives and driving progress. On the other, it has the potential for destruction, as seen in references to weapons, landmines, and environmental pollution.
Inevitability of Progress: The recurring line "If it's out of the bag, then it's out of the bag" might be emphasizing that once a technology is introduced, it can't be undone or taken back.
Human Dependency: The line "The machinery could eat us, we just really just love our buttons" highlights our growing dependence on technology and our sometimes reckless fascination with pushing boundaries.
Play on Words: The term "powerful cat" likely plays off the phrase "letting the cat out of the bag," suggesting once technological advancements are made, their power and influence are undeniable and can't be contained.
In essence, the song is a reflection on technology's undeniable force in shaping human history, for both better and worse. It recognizes that while technology can bring immense benefit, it also has the power to bring harm, making it crucial for humanity to approach it with care and responsibility.

This is why i love aesop rock. Its so philosophical
