    Excellent ideas...
    I cut a lens size hole in a rubber toilet plunger (where the wooden handle usually attaches) and painted the inside of the plunger black. Works quite well...
    Another trick is to use an el cheapo Mini-Softbox (available on eBay for a couple of dollars) paint the inside black and you have a shade for the lens that is cheap and folds up into a tiny package

    The t-shirt idea sounds great. You could also get a sheet of black muslin/linen, cut a hole in the center for the lens, secure with a rubber band/elastic loop, and gaffer-tape it to the window. Voila!

    Hi Serge, interesting video. I often have reflection issues taking photos through the glass of well lit museum display cases, and wonder if a mini version of the T-shirt idea would work. At present, I've tried rubber lens hoods with some success but with some vignetting due to the lens including the hood in the picture. Your opinions on this scenario would be of interest too, please. Thanks and regards, Joe.

  • @Nirvanaib
    @Nirvanaib Před 7 lety +6

    A much simpler and free way to do this (and I've been doing it for years at zoos and aquariums) is to simply use a lens hood, and press it against the window. The only catch is, it has to be a solid hood not a petal style hood.

    Does shooting a little wide open help reduce any of the dirt on the windows showing in the image?

    I am using lens skirt for years and recently bought the XL version for ultra wide angle lenses. Extremely good product. Can be used in an airplane where opening the window is .... difficult ;)

  • @mattyist7
    @mattyist7 Před 7 lety

    1. Make sure window is clean
    2. Pull away curtains because reflections of the curtains may show up in long exposures
    3. Turn off all sources of light inside
    4. If possible have a lens hood pressed against the glass (unless shooting on a angle)
    5. If the interior is being reflected on the glass then holding up black shirt or something dark around the camera will help eliminate the reflections

    wouldn't a polarising filter cut the reflections out too?

    • @awwwtraveler
      @awwwtraveler Před 7 lety

      Chris Wilson yes, that's correct

    • @marcherrmann9635
      @marcherrmann9635 Před 7 lety +2

      I don't think it's correct nor really helpful, since a polarizing filter is supposed to minimize reflections under a certain angle only. Specificly when holding the camera in a 90° angle towards the window, you almost won't be able to filter out any reflections I guess. Who has tried this and can give a practically elaborated reply?
