Excellent ideas...
I cut a lens size hole in a rubber toilet plunger (where the wooden handle usually attaches) and painted the inside of the plunger black. Works quite well...
Another trick is to use an el cheapo Mini-Softbox (available on eBay for a couple of dollars) paint the inside black and you have a shade for the lens that is cheap and folds up into a tiny package
Thank you so much for the demonstrations, and examples. Merci!!!!
Very short and up to the point. Very helpful too. Thank you!!!
Great idea!
Awesome little trick. Thank you!!
This was great! New tricks for me. Awesome!!!
simply gorgeous shots with the lens skirt!! Beautiful work :)
Very useful thanks man
The t-shirt idea sounds great. You could also get a sheet of black muslin/linen, cut a hole in the center for the lens, secure with a rubber band/elastic loop, and gaffer-tape it to the window. Voila!
Thanks Serge!!
Serge
Thanks for posting the video. I will be staying at the Cosmopolitan with the Bellagio fountain view. What is the best shutter speed to shoot the fountain.
Good video and tip, Thank you
What's the title of the song you use at the end ??
How would I take a photo of a person standing in front of the hotel window to have both them and the view without reflection?
Super astuce ! Au passage, quel est le titre de la chanson utilisée en fin de vidéo? Merci d'avance !
Great trick
Hi Serge, interesting video. I often have reflection issues taking photos through the glass of well lit museum display cases, and wonder if a mini version of the T-shirt idea would work. At present, I've tried rubber lens hoods with some success but with some vignetting due to the lens including the hood in the picture. Your opinions on this scenario would be of interest too, please. Thanks and regards, Joe.
A much simpler and free way to do this (and I've been doing it for years at zoos and aquariums) is to simply use a lens hood, and press it against the window. The only catch is, it has to be a solid hood not a petal style hood.
then no angles
I use a rubber one for that.
Does shooting a little wide open help reduce any of the dirt on the windows showing in the image?
serge you are very cool .every software you talking I bought it . it was great I love it . Aurora HDR Luminar and another one .it was really wonderful
Would HDR work well with those shots of Las Vegas?
I always have the luck that the windows are dirty outside
I am using lens skirt for years and recently bought the XL version for ultra wide angle lenses. Extremely good product. Can be used in an airplane where opening the window is .... difficult ;)
I like the tip about black t-shirt and gaffer tape. Simple. Thanks :)
1. Make sure window is clean
2. Pull away curtains because reflections of the curtains may show up in long exposures
3. Turn off all sources of light inside
4. If possible have a lens hood pressed against the glass (unless shooting on a angle)
5. If the interior is being reflected on the glass then holding up black shirt or something dark around the camera will help eliminate the reflections
If you're NOT in Vegas, just open the window :)
LOL . you got it
Erwin vd Berg not sure any hotel you can open the window in unless it's like a balcony.
hahahaaa
Ur right😂
Indeed. The simple fact is they don't want people jumping/falling out, so they stop you opening more than a jar! :/
I use lens skirts all the time. They really help.
I ordered a lenskirt and paid for it and it never turned up, lenskirt just stopped responding to my questions about my order. What a great service!
Which hotel were these shots taken from? Thanks
I'd also love to know what hotel this is. I'm booking accommodation in Vegas and this is exactly the kind of view I'd like.
Of course it certainly helps to have spotless, streak free, crystal clear glass on the window you're shooting through.
Love this guys videos but this one was so obvious. I thought we were going to learn something new, not just turning the lights off and lens skirt. How about shooting the whole room with no reflections out the window?
^ This.
just learn photoshop
I am an amateur filmmaker and I had no idea lens skirts even existed. I am very happy this video exists.
Bellagio eh? - my fav Vegas hotel...
An A2 sheet of black paper, with a hole cut in the middle, plus a row of masking tape will to the same trick
wouldn't a polarising filter cut the reflections out too?
Chris Wilson yes, that's correct
I don't think it's correct nor really helpful, since a polarizing filter is supposed to minimize reflections under a certain angle only. Specificly when holding the camera in a 90° angle towards the window, you almost won't be able to filter out any reflections I guess. Who has tried this and can give a practically elaborated reply?
my grandparents are staying in the ballagio rightnow hahaha !
Would be more helpful to show us how fabric is used while the room lights are still on. 😂
Agree, keep the lights on whilst describing the solution. Good tip for beginners
couldn't see the set up because the lights were off :( But I think I get the jist of it.
lol, the normal picture is crooked and strange composition but the one with the lenskirt is straight and nice framed...
damn marketing!
you should buy some rubber lens hood and voila
Good pick-up.
Nice video but I think you did it a bit fast, you also could have said to make sure the windows is clean and talked a bit about the use of a polarised filter if you're in a car or something.
What is a lens skirt Serge? your video is too dark to see what you are using!!
Paul
Open it
can I use your video for mine??
Ummm, not exactly the nest wording
Click bait, they don't have any guns, just cameras
Ridiculously expensive in my opinion..
You can turn lights off is simple, why you do this? No sense
