Reykjavik Volcano Geyser, Lava 1100 Feet In The Air - Terrific Sound

- Reykjavik has a new Volcano Geyser now, witch shoots lava few hundred meters in the air every few minutes, this is the volcano view from Reykjavik
This is the real sound from the volcano, we vent to the volcano site to record it, but you can´t hear the volcano it in Reykjavik, maybe on a still night you might :)
The church in the foreground is Hallgrimskirkja
The video was shot wen the lava bursts were at there highest with high zoom, 45km away from the eruption, the wobbling in the video is from the heat rising from the ground.
Nothing has been faked in the video, this is how it came out of the camera, only some color balancing has been done
The national meteorological office of Iceland measured one geyser during the dawn of May 5 and was able to record a height of over 1,500 feet (460 meters). Fagradalshraun volcano's powerful bursts have thrown hot rock fragments known as tephra. It landed several hundred meters from the crater where the uninhabited area of the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland is located.

There’s nothing like having a volcano in your backyard.
Imo thats metal asf
{inset Pompeii meme here}
Yes, I normally take a shower with lava.

Easy oven then
Kinda cool how we’re living on a floating rock with lava on the inside, water on the outside.

That was scarier than any movie I’ve ever watched….
The booming, then the strange sounds, then a giant tower of lava shooting us in the distance…
Gave me the chills
what life is like on an alien planet basically...
That is a beautiful church
The church is Hallgrimskirkja
Literally what i was gonna write
Noo. The ugliest
The Hallgrímskirkja is supposed to evoke the style of a Viking longship. It's really beautiful inside- all white and minimalist gothic windows. It's named after Hallgrímur Pétursson, a 17th century Icelandic Christian poet whose " Psalms" were much loved. You can go up the tower in a lift for the best panoramic views over Reykjavík! It also houses a magnificent pipe organ built by German firm, Klais.
@@keycontroller1 awesome thanks for the information! One of these years I'll hopefully find myself in this fine city ⛪
I guess that people in Pompeii must have looked at their volcano and thought… ‘that’s a nice volcano.. it should bring more tourists to this area..’
Jokes said apart, these are rift volcanoes. Much much less dangerous than subduction volcanoes like the Vesuve that buried Pompeii.
There's an area west of Naples- not too far from Pompeii-Herculaneum- that contains an active volcanic zone. Called the Phlegrean Fields, in antiquity it hosted a number of temples and baths that attracted a large number of tourists and pilgrims from across Roman Italy.
Eventually 😂
@@petergray7576 the Campi Flegrei, I've heard it is a super volcano of Yellowstone proportion.
well they were right with the tourism
OMG, the height of lava is increditable. Can't imagine the enormous pressure between the earth crust and the mantle.
Actually we have no idea what is down there! We have never made it through the crust! 100% of everything we know about the inner workings of the earth is all Theory!!!!!! The discovery is still up for grabs!
@@cmdrit00kadump83And yet, people teach it in schools like facts...even if there is no evidence about it.
@@esztervarga5431no lol, they teach everything as a theory unless it’s been scientifically proven. Unless your school was just different
@@cmdrit00kadump83 Well we do have ways to figure out what's down there. Just because we haven't been there physically doesn't mean it's "all theory". Look up e.g. seismic tomography.
@@esztervarga5431 You're confusing evidence with direct observations. There's plenty of evidence to back up the theories we teach in regards to the interior of our planet. There's just no direct observation we can currently make to add to it.
Those few pounding thuds in the beginning of the video is the stuff of nightmares! The heartbeat of the beast! If i heard that in my own city, i would be subtle tears wondering what end is to come!
Over 30km away yet the sound comes in sync with the visuals. ;)
my thoughts
@@paulpower5028 30 km a 300 m/s sound means that if the thing blows every 90s it'll be in sync. not sure if that was the case thou... guess you'd have to be there to know
@@lzszl as i know it blows every couple of minutes. more in the 5 to 10 range

Oh just saw another comment which he answered, it's a fake sound, direct from the volcano
The first 10 seconds are terrifying, it sounds like some big ass creature are coming your way.
😰😰😰😰😰😰
Hears like Hell’s gates were opening😱
It almost sounds like a heartbeat to me.
@Noah Kim Kardashan?

Its nice when the city adds a pretty fountain to the area.

Icelanders: “Honey, can you pick up bread and milk from the store please? I’m going to take a nap.”
That is how it is. Life goes on, what can you do? I have family there, we don´t even talk about the eruptions anymore. We did with the first ones, then less, now not at all.
Imagine how terrifying that would be like just go outside and see that...😣
@Yeshuas Return 2 yeah agreed
I love it ✌
Etna:
it's amazing
Or amazing how it looks 🤠
amazing how far this was taken and you can hear the booms like a walking giant.
In the notes he explains that the sound recording was done closer to the site of the volcano, and not from the site where he filmed it from here, but judging from the 60+ likes you got, I guess no one reads those notes.
Anything that can spray liquid rock a 5th of a mile upward into the sky with ease, needs to be respected.
Wife:What are you doing outside dear?
Husband: Oh nothing much..just sitting here drinking my cup of coffee and reading my newspaper… oh yeah and looking at the volcano shooting lava into the air.
I think that Reykjavik has since march by far, the most interesting skyline on earth.
Just imagine waking up in the morning, you look out the window, see this
I can only imagine smoking a blunt outside on my deck and being able to watch that.. I thought watching thunderstorms while smoking was fun….

Its like a monster approaching with those heavy thuds at the start. As people said its amazing and terrifying video at the same time. Great capture.
Everyone gangsta until the pyroclastic flow wipes out the whole city.
Lucky for them that it is not that type of volcano
Would need to have a tendency towards explosive eruptions.
Wrong kind of volcano for that.
@@draupnir9748 what do you mean? What type of volcano it has to be for that to happen? In asking because I got curious and Google didn't really gave me the answer I was looking for 🤔
@@cindyduran706 if tectonic plates move to each other, than you will get the explosive type volcano (the involvement of water and the building of pressure is the reason for that). It is called subduction. If you have two tectonic plates that moves away from each other (like in Iceland) that is called diversion. No explosive type of volcano. The west of the America's (like the Cascades) for example is a subduction zone with the explosive type of volcanoes.
Awesome that was captured in real time. Like a tornado, scary and beautiful at the same time.
It reminds me of seeing Mordor in the distance in LOTR
Holy cow! Look at that! Isn't that amazing?! I'm watching this from Ireland 🇮🇪
"Let's build our shit on top of an active volcano"

🤣
Maybe if you'd have warned them before they built there.
The volcano is about 45km away.
@@offtherealm5438 this is not a pyroclastic volcano as Iceland is an expansion fault. The only thing at risk here is that the current outflow could possible damage some buried utility lines and block a road on the southern shoreline that goes between Grindavik and Selfoss (IIRC).
terrifying, sublime, fascinating and dangerous all at the same time
That's gotta be a terrific and humbling experience! Nice footage!
What an amazing video. Beautifully captured, perfectly explained & Unbelievable that such a type of volcano/geyser actually exists!!! Thank you for sharing this with the rest of the World!!
A geyser is with water, this just a tall lava fountain from an eruption
Absolutely awesome!

Some of the facade is meant to simulate the basalt columns that you find, in outstanding display at Reynisfjara Beach near Vik. at least I think this is true.

If you used the sound you record with the side of the volcano, then you should write it. Nothing wrong with that.
But it is not from Mega Reykjavik, not even from the best places to see it.

Yeah, I woke up and ate breakfast with the kids and then drove 'em to school; went to shop for groceries; stopped at the post office and then the hardware store; came home and walked the dog; watched a thousand foot ploom of scathing hot lava spew out of the nearest volcano. Ho hum, just another average morning...
So beautiful but I don't think I could handle the anxiety of living in such an active location.

That beats every other cities fireworks display!
It's like being in the kitchen, and you peek out and your grill caught on fire and you know the burgers are way well done
Why people choose to live there? Future historians will for sure appreciate it, just like we appreciate the citizens of Pompeii today.
Oh stop. Like they're the only people living where natural disasters can happen. Do you think eight billion people can all live on the few hundred square miles that are safe?
Many of Iceland's volcanoes were very well hidden in the landscape, and slept for quite a long time.By the time they woke up,cities had already been built in the surroundings, with most people not even being aware that there was a volcano nearby(just like in Pompeii). And they can't simply move away to a safer area, because it's not only impossible to move that many people, but it's also unnecessary, since Iceland's volcanoes aren't even THAT dangerous.Sure there's the lava, but it has proven to not be that big of a deal since 1973.
Κωστής, allow me to introduce you to the Yellowstone Caldera. It will wipe out North America in an instant. EVERYONE on earth is vulnerable to mega eruptions. Don't fool yourself thinking you live anywhere safe.
@@dudeonbike800 Relax, the magma chamber underneath is nowhere near full.
@@dudeonbike800 And BTW, it wouldn't wipe out North America in an instant. There would be an instant kill zone of a few hundred miles radius, followed by a hot ash zone spanning much of the Pacific Northwest and Midwestern states, and ash would continue to rain down on a good portion of the continent but a substantial portion would be spared. However, the ash circulating in the atmosphere would block out most of the light from the sun and the entire planet would eventually be plunged into something resembling a nuclear winter, possibly for a decade or longer.
That's a good bit of photo shop work see if you can get the sound rite next time
