  • How do plastic surgeons reverse advanced aging of the face? Can multiple plastic surgeries be combined? In this episode of Aesthetic Minutes, Dr Soares reviews a clinical case presentation of one of his very own patients to showcase the transformative power of plastic surgery in the total facial rejuvenation of a 69 yo female patient with severe facial aging leading to an amazing transformation. The approach to this patient required a comprehensive array of procedures that include a facelift, platysmal plication for necklifting, a carbon dioxide laser skin peel to resurface the face, and a trichophytic brow lift to lift the brows and smooth the forehead. #Facelift #LaserPeel #Browlift #TotalFacialRejuvenation

These results are incredible! She has smooth skin and a firm jawline!
I think that the reason she doesn't look "young" (but what were you expecting, for a 69-year old to look 30?) is because of bone loss around the eyes. As we age, our eye sockets enlarge and our eyes sink in, looking smaller. And the procedures could not address that. If you cover just the eyes, she can easily pass for 50.
And to those who say she looked 90 before, no, she didn't. She was very wrinkled, but wrinkles are not the main thing that age us. It's bone loss and sag, especially jowls. Notwithstanding what I said above about her eyes, she still had a great bone structure. And little jowling (not even visible in frontal view, go back to 0'32", you'll see). She certainly didn't look 90. Just a weathered 70-year old.
    And now, she glows.

If we could have seen her AFTER photo free of make-up too ( as she was in her Before shots) then she would still have still looked great,
but it would have been a more honest comparison for your before & after photos.

Thank you for the suggestion; most patients do not want to share photos in the early post-op period; rest assured, they look pretty horrendous until at least the 2 week mark. I tell my patients that they will only start looking good and enjoying the results at typically around 1 month and will always look their best no sooner than 3 months. If a facelift avoids midfacial work and no anterior neck work, then patients can look good at even 1 week. However, specializing in advanced facial aging, those are not the patients who most commonly present to our clinic. We are prepared to handle all extremes of facial aging for eligible candidates, but there is a healing period that must be well planned out.
