@Olusayo Ajetunmobi You also have to take into account that this really isn't artificial intelligence. It's a program that takes the points you draw and searches whatever database it's attached to for something simular. It prpbably doesn't take into account facial markers associated with different races/ethnicities like you'd find in the more sophisticated facial recognition and reconstruction software. It appears to be limited to what it has access to, which is apparently "salad lady" stock photos...

AI, digital cameras, and voice recognition software have a long history of working better for white men. This is explained pretty easily and obviously, actually- so much so that anyone who denies it is a bit of a fucking moron tbh..
the explanation is that, well, itâs mainly white guys developing these products. So when they test them personally during development, on their white and masculine selves, they end up accidentally programming them to work best for white men. Arguing against that would be moronic, as I mean, literally just go to you local university and go to a high level computer science class. It averages 15% female and 20% non-white in my personal experiences as a CS student. The number of minorities in computer science fields is actively dropping.
As far as AI goes specifically, AI learns with âtrainingâ. This is basically it being given a lot of examples over and over. Due to biases in the modeling industry and the simple statistic of there being more white people than black people, this AI was surely trained with mostly white people as examples. This isnât the creators being, like.. intentionally racist... Iâd instead venture to say they either havenât even thought about this (since theyre white males theyâre probably mostly testing by trying to get it to produce white males.. testing with things youre familiar with (like yourself) is just normal human behavior), or they know this is a problem and are trying to fix it. Until thereâs a database of a few dozens of thousands of high quality pictures of black people however, this will remain an issue with AI facial recognition.

A fun test to do is to put a photo through one of those sites that turns the photo into a sketch and then put the sketch through that site to see if it produces a reasonable approximation of the original photo.

Oh my god you're right! They just run the sketch through an AI and run that through some separate AI to find people with similar features, it's genius
Sketches based of of descriptions have always been terrible at really identifying criminals. The problem has always been that the witness who gives the description unintentionally can mis remember details or even create false memories. Human memory is extremely fallible and unreliable and sketches based off testimony often leads to innocent people being arrested. Adding an AI on top of that is going to lead to even less accuracy and more confusion.
