Many ppl saw this coming but we quickly shut by those who wanted those acquisitions, xbox never tried to grow their studios organically by supporting them, they just bought a bunch of studios because the only thing they know what to do do is spending money and hope to solve everything with it, well these are the consequences.

“Disaster” Is an understatement. It was a disaster five years ago. It’s since swelled to cataclysm levels.
Hearing that they want to prioritize "block buster games" sounds to me like if your game is making CoD $$$ your time is limited.

Microtransactions games... See all the Unfinished games from Xbox on Gamepass, it goes with this shema... Sea of thieves ended up having content after 3 years on GP, same principe for Grounded... and so they lied on trailers and killed Halo Infinite and Forza Motorsport, Redfall... Starfield ! But now they will only care about the franchises already secured : Minecraft, Roblox, COD...
This is honestly hands down the best coverage on the matter, straight to the point, well sourced, and not afraid to have a well informed opinion. So underrated with regards to the number of followers this channel has so far.
Microsoft didn't purchase other publishers to compete with Playstation
They wanted to eliminate the competition. Being the biggest publisher is now their main goal
Fortunately for their competition, they keep shooting themselves in the foot.
This is exactly what I was saying during the acquisition. They didn't just buy out a bunch of game developers. They purchased and removed two competing publishers from the industry.
Phil, Sarah, and Matt and any xbox games leadership needs to go, I'm tired of the lies and just bad decision after bad decision, poor communication with the consumer base, I'm tired of phil and company slowly destroying xbox
Unfortunately I think the real pressure comes above them. Nadella opening the MS wallet had it's price. He regretted killing the Windows Phone but I'm afraid the dood never learn.
All they had to do was focus on games. Instead its strategy after strategy that doesnt pan out

I'm so glad that Ghostwire doesn't have a cliff hanger ending. Those leaked court docs showed a sequel for Ghostwire and I was definitely interested but thank God that the story is all tied up already. Such a good game, got the platinum at launch and started a new save last night, still just as fun. 10/10 for me.

Much better to just buy them out and bring them dry then support them through one or two games I guess lol.

I feel like this begs the question of what if this is just good management? During covid many studios expanded and pushed for big triple A games with budgets exceeding movies. So with this being acknowledged, isn’t the issue Bethesda over hiring versus Microsoft being weird? The industry as a whole tried to jump on the wave of new players during lockdowns and many failed and have downsized. It’s correcting for overcompensating. So with these points, I also want to argue that no studio needs more than 50-100 employees. Most of the best games were made with smaller teams. I would also say that it’s so easy to fall into certain narratives, maybe we should evaluate what makes good games and makes common sense? Wasn’t games better before with smaller teams.

I am expecting more "less performing" developers to be shut down, now that MS has hoarded the IPs and started asking Xbox to show results for the gargantuan investments made the last 5 or 6 years...
This sure looks like a pivot away from Game Pass. Hi-Fi Rush was perfect Game Pass fodder, and Redfall expected to be on Game Pass for the next decade. All those smaller studios aren't needed if the focus is shifting to AAA titles.
I really hope some great smaller studios can come out of the ashes of these shutdowns.
It sucks because there are examples of another company buying another and it's going well and becoming very good for both companies involved
Look at Nintendo for example they bought monoliths soft in 2007, Back then a lot people said it was a mistake and Nintendo was wasting money. Fast forward to the day and it's a completely different story now. You have monolith soft helping make games like the legend of Zelda, animal crossing, and splatoon, All of which have sold so many units and has made a lot of money for Nintendo. Plus they're making their own games with the xenoblade franchise which's not as big as the titles mentioned before are still highly regarded, beloved by fans, and are very impressive for the switch and are use as showcases for what their current system is capable of. And now you hear Rumors of them having a brand new IP that is supposedly going to be part of the Lanch year line up for the next Nintendo console
If Microsoft and xbox handled the studios they've gotten in their recent buy outs then they probably could have had something similar to what nintendo has with monolith but they don't seem to know what to do or aren't interested in pursuing that, Which is just a waste of talent money and effort in my view

Xbox couldn’t manage their own studios before all the acquisitions, whoever thought they could manage 3x as many studios was absolutely delusional. The only question is, who’s next?

So they've been buying individual games, putting 1st party, and buying up whole publishers to put into gamepass for what 7 years now? And they still don't know how to measure the value of the games? No wonder things are the way they are.
Truly disappointed in Microsoft for the closures of Tango Gameworks. Finally a studio that they have that gave them a ton of great reviews and awards last year from both the media and gamer audience for which they haven't gotten for such a long time and they dicided to close that studio down. It's like committing business suicide over greedy. Hifi Rush got better reviews scores and won more awards than their competitor Sony Playstation biggest exclusive game for last year which is Marvel Spiderman 2. Also Hifi Rush also beat their own Xbox biggest exclusive for last year which is Starfield in both review scores and awards. How can they close that type of game studio, how is it even possible for Tango Gameworks to even get cut after receiving so much praise. Finally a Xbox owned Japanese studio with quality and they close it down, what Microsoft even thinking. Over 400 or more video games released last year and Hifi Rush was in the top five or ten of must play for 2023 and they closed that game studio are you kiddy me. As an strictly only Xbox gamer words can't describe how disappointed I am.

Not a single soul involved in making the originals good has anything to do with the new “Fable” game. It’s some random game wearing a skin suit of a dead IP whose developer no longer exists… there’s no reason to have any hype for it until reviews come out or it releases. Increasingly, Microsoft is just buying the names of good franchises and hiring random developers to make them. I can’t wait for Hi-Fi Rush 2 made by The Initiative or the Shadow Collective or whoever the hell!

So zenimax mandated arkane austin make redfall, a live service game which is not in what they do.... it predictably failed and now they close the studio. They made one of my favorite games of all time in dishonored... so sick of microsofts crap probably gonna sell my series x to game stop and load up on steam cards. Bought a pc last year, a steam deck last month. I dont need this crap box.

Xbox fan but I mostly play on PC recently. Not interested in Gamepass and haven't bought a Xbox Series because I'm just not convinced.
