  • As the years have gone on this has become the case more and more. From mountain biking to gravel to Bikepacking to road, I wear baggy shorts on pretty much every bike ride. Cycling in baggy shorts isn’t for everyone or every situation but it has become my preferred bike riding attire. Here are 5 reasons why.

I totally agree with you! I drive for decades also only in baggy shorts, but with a bib underneath. Whether MTB or road bike. It's just much more practical. In all the points you have mentioned, to which it has more style. In a few years, this will be the new trend and then everyone does it. ;) Cheers

Same argument for SPDs on road bikes for those who stop a lot and have cafe' breaks. They're making MTB shoes just as good these days as road shoes. I know Sidi makes both types on the same platforms and are just starting out with gravel dedicated shoes.

I need a good inexpensive pair of baggies with a liner. Any recommendations? I do a lot of gravel and road riding and some mountain biking. It's mostly just local rides by myself.

Agree for off road and gravel but on long road ride gotta be lycra with a good pad. Plus if look Pro then you must be fast?

For clarification the pad is still there, just under the baggy shorts. I choose to wear full bib shorts under my baggies while others wear padded liner shorts.
If racing road or trying for a strava segment being more aero helps. I’m not too concerned with speed anymore so others have to decide what their priorities are.
That said when people assume you’re not fast, it gives you a distinct advantage in the town line sprints haha.

@@WildOutdoorLiving I just brought a pair of "liners" with chamois that are just a lot lighter version of lycras, but that are designed to be worn under regular shorts.

When you wear baggy shorts, do you wear road cycling jerseys on the top? or do you just wear regular t-shirts? Do you also wear baggy trousers, or strictly shorts?

I would love to get some pants/trousers for riding but I haven’t yet. What I wear on top varies ride to ride. I have worn road jerseys with baggy shorts but that is rare for me. I usually wear a loose or semi fitted mtb jersey on top and often it’s long sleeve. It really depends on how far Im going and how much I care about wind resistance on that particular ride.
