Arsenal could have gone in for Zlatan, Kevin Gameiro, Jese, Batshuayi, Higuain etc. Even now, if you're willing to take a risk, Gabriel Barbosa is highly-rated and available, Carlos Tevez is up for a move given West Ham's attempt to sign only collapsed over money, and you've even got the super high-risk strategy of Mario Balotelli. I suppose the main problem Arsenal fans have is that many of their rivals finished their transfer business by the beginning of pre-season, whereas Arsenal tend to buy the one big star right at the start, fail to address structural problems with the squad, and then Wenger complains there's no value in the market because all the other clubs have snapped up the elite targets.
