  • Janiva Magness is one of our best known and most decorated singers, with 26 Blues Music Award nominations, and seven wins, among them BB King Entertainer of the Year. Her 2016 album Love Wins Againwas nominated for a Grammy, and she just released her 15thstudio album, Change in the Weather.
Janiva’s musical success, however, is just one part of her amazing life story, and she has just released a gripping and poignant memoir "Weeds Like Us" about her difficult upbringing and struggles with addiction, domestic violence and loss.
After years of singing other people’s material, since at least 2014, Janiva started to write her own songs, and since then her music has taken on a more autobiographical tone, which in some ways set the stage for the memoir.
To take a creative break from the introspection, her new release Change in the Weather features material written by John Fogerty, either from Creedence Clearwater Revival or his solo work. Three of the four songs she performed this day are Fogerty tunes from the new album.
Janiva’s band features her longtime bassist Gary Davenport with drummer Topher Allis and guitarist Steve Dawson.
