Phillies put a bunch of talented guys together that actually LIKE each other. That's the key. They got the right people in the clubhouse and they're having a blast. Are they having fun because they're winning, or are they winning because they're having fun.
I agree, this team's chemistry reminds me of the 08 & 09 teams. It's so much fun watching baseball right now
@@seanob9245if you look at when the Phillies have been good, and I mean going back over a century, it’s been guys who can appreciate the Philly hard nose attitude. Not everyone can do that. It just wasn’t for some. Scott Rolen was one of those.
These guys fit the city. The 07-11 guys were like that. The 93 team certainly was like that. Guys like Larry Bowa and Pete Rose around 80-83. It just goes on.
Guys who belong at the end of the bar when they aren’t on the diamond.
Sounds weird, but blue collar millionaires
@@hesh8367 absolutely, I can see these guys having a couple beers after the game and talking about the next game and what they need to do.
@@pewsandbrews hell yeah. I mean, doesn’t Schwarber remind you of Kruk? Kruk hit for a much better average, but I mean just as a dude.
As Kruk would say, he’s not an athlete. He’s a ballplayer.
And Harper? Man, that guy has a Pete Rose streak in him a mile long the way he attacks and attacks the game. He makes it bend around him.
These Phillies remind me what it was like when I was younger and played baseball and all the fun we had. They just seem like how it should be if your career involves playing a game and making tons of money. They just seem to love what they do so much it's infectious.
Why is Rich Eisen the only levelheaded and logical guy in sports? We need more like him.
You don’t like Dan Patrick? Love Rich, I feel like Dan is similar, could be wrong.
Dan was the first name I thought of.
RICH FOR PREZ
The Michael Kay show is better
Wanna take that back now?
THANK YOU RICH!!! I’m tired of every time a favorite loses. There are calls to change the rules. No, PLAY BETTER!
Today's society. Create false realities by altering history and changing the rules. It doesn't really work but it makes some feel better. I don't know where all this lunacy ends but if it goes far enough it will all end.
Chris said he played baseball for 15 years like we’re counting HS or rec leagues. TJ checked him trying though and I loved it 😂😂😂
How many times have I watched this?
Yes
Let's go Phillies! ⚾️
When Schwarber runs the bases he looks like Rich running his 40 yd dash!!😂
Most of the time he’s just trotting out a HR which is fine by me.
Playoffs are actually nice when it's not the same 4 teams in the league championships every season. If we penciled in those teams in April, no one would watch the regular season at all. Some teams are built to win games with low stakes, some are built for October baseball. All that's happening this post season is revealing who the playoff-ready teams are. It wasn't the Braves or Dodgers, and the Orioles just don't have the experience yet.
What's happening is small sample size baseball. Very short series baseball. Nothing more.
Phil's just had off for 4 days. Came back scored 5 then 10. Cut me a break with this rest argument.
Their opponent, Arizona, had the same time off. That's the difference. Atlanta had 5 days off. Philadelphia had two days off. A team can't get rusty after 2 days off and pitchers get just enough rest.
You know this layoff thing is being blown up. If you are really good, you should be able to deal with that. Instead of pounding the layoffs, let's talk about the fact that the 100+ game teams let their foot off the pedal 3 to 4 weeks before the season ended. It wasn't the 5 days or even the possible week. It's the whole freaking month when it didn't matter to them. And you aren't going to fix that.
Spoken like a football fan who wants to turn baseball into football
I'm not against the week off, per se, but should the teams that get the bye really have to "deal with that"? They won 100+ games - now deal with a disadvantage.
Also, teams don't take their foot off the pedal for the last 3-4 weeks. They go all in until they clinch. Then they might give some guys a day off here and there to give them a rest but not long enough they lose their timing.
@@ScottieMacFit's not a disadvantage to rest 😂 it's literally being said its a disadvantage because teams didnt win. That happens it's called sports. A better record doesn't mean you will win.
Fucking astros had the rest last year and won the World Series so... I don't understand the point of this whining lol from fans. Braves weren't complaining about the rest or seeding last playoffs
Inferior teams defeat superior teams in baseball FREQUENTLY. That's the nature of baseball. In a very short series between two teams with winning records, the better team will win like 52% of the time. I don't know why this is difficult to understand.
I don't buy the idea that if LA/ARI had been played 4 days earlier or whatever the result would magically have been different
Nope. Dodgers are well known choke artists along with the braves
That and the Dodgers pitching was non-existent. 4.2 IP combined from 3 starting pitchers? That’s not choking, that’s just playing bad
Haven't had Rhys Hoskins all season, either.
Where would Rhys fit?
@@joshuasimber8588yeah idk where he fits either but clearly we don’t just get rid of him so gotta find a way to work it out no?
@@joshuasimber8588 He doesn't fit. Only place for him would be as a DH but he isn't better than Schwarber in that role. It's great to see the Phillies with Marsh in LF, Bryce at 1B and Bohm where he belongs at 3B as they're much better defensively than last year's club. Rojas is an outstanding in CF. Schwarber and Hoskins were such major liabilities defensively.
Funny thing is Rhys Could actually play in the World series, if the phillies wins the next 2 games, Cause that's what i've been hearing.
@@KOHMAXII yeah but we're talking about where he'd play. If DH where would Schwarber go? You're not putting him at center or anywhere in the outfield to replace Rojas. You're not getting rid of Bryce to put him at first. There's literally no place for him other than pinch hitting & maybe late-inning sub.
3,5,7,7 is PERFECT, if we can shorten the regular season
How is a best of 5 perfect when a wild card team plays the top division winner and possibly the second division winner? What is the logic behind that? The shorter the series only increases the chance the better team will LOSE.
I've played baseball for 15+ years. I've had plenty of weeks off during playoffs and tournaments. Never had trouble, it didn't effect us or any of the teams in the league. We wait months for baseball season to start and teams aren't really rusty during the first week and thats after MONTHS of no competitive games.
Yep, the teams that lost have no excuses
No legitimate excuses
It's completely different for the pros, you Men's Fast Pitch are rank amateurs and have no idea what it's like to play on that level, or anywhere close to it. smh
@@Cosmo-Kramer ah, I suppose you're a pro that knows what the difference is
@@callmeshaggy5166 No, but I'm a pro scout for an NL West team. I'll leave it at that.
TJ checked Brockman hard, "is it though?" Brockman, your 12 years of baseball experience is not what makes people, like myself, enjoy your opinion. It doesn't bolster your baseball credentials, it diminishes your credentials for all the other sports.
“extra base hits with men on base in clutch situations” .. Said this to my daughter as it was happening. Love to watch & hear you touch on that, Rich! Phil’s 6th/7th tn rewatched over n over. Smashing balls with two strikes.. 2outs.. full counts.. driving gaps running bases with authority. They do kinda play like Jeters Yanks, literally every player locked in on a mission
The Rich Eisen Show is better then .. The Herd show!!!
The Phillies would’ve beat the Braves in a 9 game series. It didn’t matter. They couldn’t handle the bright lights
Then what happened?
@@OtisBiscuitThe Phillies still beat the Braves in 4 even with a 14 game deficit in the division.
@@OtisBiscuitthat's weird, I do t recall the phillies playing the braves 162 times this year
@@OtisBiscuit ok but what about since August?
@@OtisBiscuit Atta boy Otis
Rich makes the point of Reggie's 3 HR game ending the World Series today. They played the same amount of regular season games. Back in those days teams played multiple doubleheaders in the season, money has changed that. That might have helped shorten the regular season so the post season can end faster. I realize the more post season games so bring back those double headers.
Before last night, Castellanos had 5 HR in his previous 8 plate appearances.
Over 70% of the teams who've had a week off before their first playoff game won their series. A break does nothing but let teams reset their pitching rotation.
And yet not one single team would rather play a wildcard series 🤔 Quit with the excuses and play ball.
Atlanta had a week off when they won in 2021, funny they weren't upset about it then. Sounds to me like poor conditioning, coaching, & competitive spirit.
@@callmeshaggy5166try again, the new format that gave 1 and 2 seed a week off started in 2022
@@callmeshaggy5166maybe a week off before the start of World Series, did you even check this?
@@DoomBoy2005 exactly. Did you even check it?
1 . They will never shortened the season. Teams who don't make the playoffs will lose money without those games.
2. Rich said it perfectly: play better.
"Pitching doesn't matter" That's EXACTLY why the Orioles, Braves and Dodgers got dumped. They are teams built to win in the regular season. They have deep solid pitching staffs, but it does them no good in the playoffs when they face studs like Wheeler, Nola and Suarez and the flame throwing bullpen in a condensed series.
There is no reason these teams losing in the DS have any reason to complain. Having a 7 games DS would be interesting but you'd have to shorten the regular season
Can Brockman be traded? Like to Boston somewhere? Perhaps AM radio might be interested. More TJ.
TJ a weirdo
Gotta love the excuses.. what ever happened to just going out and getting it done.. 😴
Every time I see people in comments argue about the format… none of them mention just how good the Diamondbacks and Phillies pitching were… it’s all just “mookie and freeman and acuna and Olson not hitting coincidence blah blah blah”
They are missing the point. First of all, the second and third rounds should be 5 games, then the world series, of course, 7 games. The longer they extend the world series into November, you are going to have cold weather. Can you imagine having the Cubs playing Cleveland on November 1st.
Please bring your snow shovels. What they should do is have more day/night doubleheaders to shorten the season.
One homie Brock out there lookin like Casper the Ghost 👻
I'm glad they got rid of the one and done Wild Card. However, I can see where winning a tougher division puts you at a disadvantage. Keep the Wild Card best of 3 at one location. Only let 2 teams in. The 3 division winners get 3 days off. Then go to divisional round best of 5.
OR....
As I've been saying for the last 8-9 years, add 2 new teams (Vegas and Oklahoma City?), break each league to 4 divisions and go from there.
There was a four day layoff for the All-Star game. Nobody complained that their timing was off.
There's nothing wrong with the format if you can't prepare your team during a break off that's on you
There's nothing wrong with the format if you want the better teams to lose at least 50% of the time.
Phillies got beat by 14 games in their own division. It’s unholy how hot they got in the course of a few weeks.
Without eliminating teams from the playoffs, the only way to get rid of the bye week is to add two more teams to the playoffs. Yet that would make it 16 teams, which is more than half of MLB's 30 teams.
Best bet would be to add two more teams and create four divisions with four teams each. I'm sure Charlotte and New Orleans would like a team.
Division winners and four wildcards from each league get to the playoffs. Top two teams in each league play best of three - all at home. The other teams play best of five.
believe charlotte an nola already have teams in AAA or AA. ( charlotte knights ) if i remember...and forget what nola's is.
7 games isn't the answer for NLDS either.
NLCS has 7 games. this is the set up for higher seed:
Home
Home
Away
Away
Away
Home
Home
Phillies will still have 3 straight home games to secure it and never go back to Atlanta after winning game 1. If you have home field advantage, just one game steal could be the deciding factor for your team winning it. With Phillies securing both games at home in the NLCS, dbacks will have to finish their run at the bank even if they win all 3 games in Arizona. Not losing at home in the first place is the fastest way to securing home field advantage in the playoffs as the higher seed.
If you shorten season you have to either raise ticket prices or pay players less (probably 10%). Neither is good for the product or consumer and doesn’t make sense. The time off for 1&2 is only an issue because it’s happened to LA, which is a large market. Other than NY teams if it happened to anyone else we wouldn’t be talking about it. Stop whining and get better. Go Phillies!
The "play better" is a simple take IMO. It ignores the many flaws of the playoff format. The issue is success in a 162-game regular season is not rewarded. The pros/cons of a 5-day layoff can be debated endlessly and there are numerous issues but one easy fix is to reseed. No reason No. 1 seed does not play No. 6 seed, if 6 wins the WC series. No. 1 Atlanta should have played No. 6 Arizona and No. 2 Dodgers should have played No. 4 Phillies. No. 1 seed should have the reward of playing the lowest seed. NFL has that aspect figured out. And at least that could have set up a potential Braves-Phillies NLCS 7-game series.
Wildcard doesn't need to be 3 games, 7 of 8 of the wildcard series in this playoff format have been sweeps anyways. Just one game Wildcard, reseed the teams and have the Division series 7 games.
Its fine. Give em a chance. I wish all the series where 7. Whats the rush.
Don't mess with the regular season that'll mess with regular season records
Here's the fix:
Expand by 2 teams.
Play 3 game series against opposite league.
Play 6 games (home and home) vs intraleague non-division opponents.
Play 12 games (home and home x2) vs in-division opponents.
156 game regular season.
Have 4 teams per division.
4 division winners +2 WCs make the post-season.
Seed based on record.
WC 3 games
DS 5 games
WS 7 games
This would keep baseball out of November, give guys more time off to rest/heal in the offseason, and give more impact to every game from Opening Day.
and there would never be another record broken ever without P.E.D.'s because the season would never allow anyone who might possibly do so, get there...(seasonal records not longevity records)
I’ll say it again here, who won the World Series last year? Wasn’t it the 106 win days off before playing Houston Astros? Thats all I have to say except you have to come to play!!
Who did they play in the World Series?
Didn't know that Louis CK was a sports analyst
Bro didn't the defending champions have a bye in '22?
As did the braves in 2021. This is literally a crybaby, sore loser argument.
I thought you guys were going to talk about the fillies
phillies have a lot of players who like dancing on their own which obviously helps with homeruns
Schwarber hit a change up
Is this a statement? Because he'll just take and take everything not a fastbal and either walk or homer.
Being that it is the World Series, invite the Japanese league champion and most prominent Latin American pro champ to fill the gap
those leagues would have to change their rules format to be included. while i agree that would make it an actual ' world series ' it's probably not feasible due to rules changes that both of those leagues would have to implement, with the players having to get used to before it became anything but excibition ball.
Another problem with the week off. Late October in Philly can be rough. It likely won't snow, but it could. In years to come, if the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and other northern teams without domes get in, it will be like playing iceball.
I think it sucks that teams actually have to win their games. Why can’t baseball joint anoint the teams it thinks deserve to win and be done with it!
EXACTLY! Like why do we have to suffer through this long season just to see the top 2 teams play. I’d rather just see the same two teams fight it out in a 7 game series and then call it a season. Instead of having underdog teams ruin baseball, let’s just have the teams that are considered the best and just move on
if the argument is "theres 162 games", then why even have playoffs at all? how about we just go back to top AL and NL in the World Series and that's it, right?
All MLB teams have a minor league team. Teams with byes should just stay warm using their minor league teams. There are so many possible benefits for this btw.
hit the nail on the head man.
@@AnthonyMac16 yes...but no. I do agree it would be a good tool. however AAA season is over before MLB playoffs begin so they can incorporate the few best players of the AAA team into the playoff roster. so in order to do that, you'd have to prolong the minor league season...which then strips your team of elligible players that you would have called up to join the bigs.
Either do one game playoffs for wild card or shorten the season and expand to 8 teams per league and do an old school NBA format 1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5 system
or..you know...just have your team ready to play...and that team needs to show up READY to play. not think they're going to coast through it because they won 100+ games.
HOWEVER...TV Networks rule too much of how the post-season is laid out. That needs to be fixed first. Will MLB grow a backbone to them?
Probably not.
Why would they? They’re making way more money from the networks than butts in seats.
@@brutesquadbbq2268well take a look at the current playoff schedule. Let’s say the ALCS is over before Sunday. There is already a TV slot on that day. If the NLCS is over before then why not start game 1 of the WS on that day? Why wait? Why cause casual fan interest to drop off?
@@scottcampbell9515 probably has something to do with the AL and NL being on different networks. I’m not gonna pretend to know the ins and out of such things, but just by doing a little math, if the NLCS somehow magically ran to 7 games, the earliest they could do it would be a Wednesday if we’re accounting for travel days. I’d have to imagine when they set up these deals for exclusive rights to broadcast the playoffs on tv, they had to setup a time frame for it.
@@brutesquadbbq2268 It's pretty bad when FOX prefers showing a subpar game show on Prime Time over the ALCS. That happened last night as the ALCS was on FS1 instead of the normal FOX affiliate.

I'm done caring what football guys think about baseball. What I liked about baseball is that there are peaks and valleys, and not every game is life or death like football. And you had to think big picture. It's all gone now, so baseball could be more like football. With the bat spikes, and the trash talk, and the celebration of every minor accomplishment

The Phillies AGAIN? Feel like Rich has a clear East Coast Bias. I can't recall a single video about the Rangers. This story is AMAZING and it's gotten me to watch the MLB playoffs when I didn't see a SINGLE pitch from the regular season. It's a literal Cinderella story in sports and Rich hasn't talked about them once.
He talked quite a bit about the Orioles. How they went from 100+ losses to best record in baseball in just 2 years. Well, the Rangers also had 100 losses 2 years ago. But the Rangers also had 96 losses LAST year. They've gone from 96 losses to SWEEPING 2 of the best teams in the AL and are 2-0 against the 3rd best team in the AL.
It's an amazing story. Certainly MORE amazing than the Phillies who choked away the World Series last year while the Rangers were losing nearly 100 games.
Bruh, so you're complaining that a guy who is from NYC metro area is discussing the team which has significantly more effect on his market? Like sure, the Rangers sucked last season, now they might go to the World Series. Last year and this year almost everyone bitched how the Phillies "bought" their way to the WS, guess what, the Rangers have an even higher payroll. If they weren't good this year, everyone would treat them like the Mets. What they didn't wasn't impressive, they are doing exactly what is expected of a team with their payroll, playing good ball. So yea, the guy from NYC has an east coast bias, how surprising. It's not a Cinderella story considering they almost collapsed at the end AND CURRENTLY HAVE THE HIGHEST PAYROLL OF ANY TEAM LEFT. Damn bandwagoners
Baltimore was a team happy just to win the division. And the 2-seed is a 90-win team, just like the rangers. So it's not like they've been punching above their weight class. As stated, they've got the highest payroll remaining and the Phillies have two $300m people playing for them, so they aren't really playing the Cinderella role.
@@pedanticchicken2117 But he's a NATIONAL show and hasn't lived on the East Coast since ESPN.
Blah blah blah payroll blah blah. Feel like the payroll thing hasn't worked out since Red Sox & Yankees. So to say "they're doing what is expected" isn't exactly true anymore. A lot of big payroll teams just never get it together for a playoff run like the Rangers have had.
As for the "they weren't very good towards the end" uhhh yeah, they were INJURED. For a so called baseball fan you'd think you'd know that their 2 best pitchers were injured, one of the best rookies was trying to get back from missing 6 weeks, etc.
Damn baseball snobs.
I'm the 500 LIked👍
I love this guy and all of his opinions, but I 100% disagree with him on the playoff format. Baseball players don’t take 5 days off the whole season, plus they need to make the DS a 7 game series if you really wanna give the divisional champs an advantage.
All-star break
@@Ho-ran and then 82 more games are played afterward. Not a 5 game series
@@frankietorres1800 either way I think you’re forgetting how good the pitching was for the dbacks and Phillies. No one is giving them credit
The week off sucks... Kills all momentum
no it does'nt look at the astros.
So how come teams do just fine at the start of the season after having months off? Week off helps you, you get to face teams 3rd pitcher and use your Ace.
Winning a wild card series brings the momentum and the bye teams aren’t prepared to compete at that level. In a best of 5 losing the first game is huge and just feeds the changes in momentum.
I propose cutting the regular season by a few games and still play a best of 3 wildcard but then best of 7 the rest of the way. If you can’t get it back in a best of 7 you don’t have a complaint.
The alternative would be scrapping the playoffs and just having the regular season league champs meet in the World Series like the old days. Don’t hold your breath.
@timx9661 so let's say the Phillies swept the Braves, then the Dbacks vs Dodgers went 7 games. How long do you think the Phillies would be waiting to find out their opponent and play their next game? Alot longer than 5 days. Hell even with the Phils and Braves going 5 games the dbacks had to eait 4 days. It's not a good excuse for losing. If you can't get through a 5 day off period, then you're not good enough. It's simple.
Sorry 4 the "b" remark. I just looked in the mirror!
Stop making excuses for extra days off! The Phillies beat the hell outta ur braves
