Now we know where the Lucky Lamp came from. Prior to this I always thought it belonged to Proteus, I bet a lot of other people did too. Interesting way of tying in the events of 'Rusty and the Boulder'. The fact that Sir Topham has seen the Lamp before was quite surprising. I bet everyone on Sodor will be surprised when the Revelations come out next week.
If I’m honest, maybe the ghost of Proteus will show up at some point claiming the Lucky Lamp was actually his and not a standard issue military headlamp.

Same here. I am a bit nervous how I will handle next week's episode, especially as normally I watch these before going to my job at a museum, and given that I've had similar "Quality time" with scum of the earth that would give Dr. Mengele a run for his money and seen more people die from "Quality time" than I care to count, I hate the idea of being a nervous wreck if I start having flashbacks to the mistreatment I went through and witnessed. @@modelrailpreservation I’m pretty sure the next episode “Revelations” will be about Sir Topham Hatt, and how different he will act around the other engines after his little discovery.
Stanley immediately looking for the lamp after the rock lands in front of him is really funny. And, crazy how something was actually written on that lamp all along.
Wow, I never expected Sir Topham Hatt to have some connection with the Lucky Lamp, also I'm happy we saw Lily and Collin again, sad they're gone, but never forgotten

Moreover, I got a question: both Sir Handel & Benson mentioned chlorine gas. Does that mean that The Small Controller was on the train of Benson's? What do you think Lastly, I think this scene was very funny 16:44 - 16:46
Chlorine gas was pretty common during WW1. So it’s most likely Sir Handle was referring to it more generally rather than referring to one specific experience.
I’m so glad that the Lucky Lamp is still giving good fortune wherever it goes. At the beginning of the episode I got worried. It’s so weird. I felt like my faith was being challenged. I was so relieved when it was proven Lucky again. Isn’t it odd how things completely unrelated to us can still produce such powerful emotions? A digitally generated Lamp on a CZcams series, and I was worried it would lose its Luck. It’s funny when you think about it. Still, I think Rosie should have held onto the Lamp for a bit longer. I sure hope she isn’t forced to leave or anything. Great episode as always, Victor. I can’t wait to see what you pull out next week, and to see what the deal with Sir. Topham is. And to see what the deal with Duncan is. There sure are a lot of unanswered questions. I guess that’s how you hook an audience. I certainly am hooked.
I've been to the Grand Canyon two times in my life: One in 2018, and one just now because of that cliffhanger. This was probably the best episode of the season, namely out of how much was reveled. Great job!

Holy moly. I think this is the best one you've done in a while. You did great with the lucky lamp's origins, and with a history with Topham of all people. I think the rest of this season may be the best since S3.
Excluding the issues with the pacing, this episode was very interesting and brings a lot of new questions into this mystery. I really adored that we've finally got an answer to the origins of the lamp and I love the lore of it, it gave a lot of great surprises: there's a lot of connections from Stanley, to Benson and even Sir Topham Hatt at the end. It was very surprising. The cliffhanger ending is very mysterous, it makes me look forward to the next episode, giving that this episode brings some shocking revelations. I love the cold opening, I love that this episode lacks the narration from Edward, it fits so well for this type of story and with the flashback to Knapford 1917, it brings everything together to why the Luckly Lamp appeared on the crossing in the first place. Out of all the episodes of SOS, this is right at the top. It has a great mystery and the cliffhanger just interests me more for Relvelations. Plus, this entire arc of the expansion to The Nar-Twin, it has been amazing. Wonderful job with this episode, Victor!
Another great episode, you could give TV script writers a run for their money. Love how you showed the Lucky Lamps origins and how tied up Ivo, Sir Topham and even Benson service in WW1 and how it arrived on the island. The twist at the end of the story where Sir Topham freaks out and starts to have a severe panic attack, was a shock and the ominous greeting with Dr Anderson suggests that Sir Topham is likely to suffer a relapse....
I mean, How can i not LOVE this episode?? It shows the following things: 1)After we saw duncan being a pleasant chap, Now we see Benson on his good core. 2)James and Rosie do be flirtin tho 3)That opening scene was epic, and the ending too was epic, i mean, the lucky lamp is a complete god at this point 4)After their tragic demises, we get to see both Colin & Lily getting some moments of screentime
Amazing video as always Victor. It’s great that we finally see the origin of the Lucky Lamp, I loved the boulder scene re-enacted and seeing Collin and Lilly again. And finally Sir Topham’s reaction to the Lamp and that cliffhanger was quite nerve racking.
So good. The way Victor has adapted Rusty and the Boulder with the current story arc is just fantastic. This look into the origin of The Lucky Lamp and the past of Sir Topham has enthralled me. I so very much am looking forward to next weeks episode! Although the End scene and music is very haunting
Indeed Todd, it's surprising that the North Western engines don't have an incline quarry on the standard gauge line but the Skarloey engines do. How will they store more trucks so they don't overflow the yards?
Not gonna lie, Victor. Whenever I see your Billy Shoepack, I can't stop hearing the theme tune of his original incarnation from the TUGS series along with his whistle. Music to my ears.
Now this was an amazing episode. And seeing Sir Topham Hatt react to seeing the lamp, and then the final moment of the flashback before thebend credits? I can really tell serious stuff is gonna go down.
Wow this is different. This is the first time we got a scene before the intro. This story is great. It finishes the arc of the Lucky Lamp from the season 1 finale. I am very intrigued to know what happened to Sir Topham Hatt. Upon rewatching, I realized with Stanly's letters didn't reach Topham, cause he was in that hospital.
Given how weird and sinister the series is getting so far, could it be possible that we could see some new engines or non-faceless vehicles in the future who oddly remember lives they haven’t lived but then are revealed to actually be the reincarnations of Mr. Star, Lily or any of the dead characters? This really pushes the revenant theory to be true, which is fine by me given I believe that theory the most.
I like the story line between Benson and Stanley, I like to think that since he said Stanley was reckless engine he now notices how much he’s overcome it and therefore he’s now founded a new respect for him.
The amount of ends this ties up is fantastic and what a cliff hanger, the only down side is having to wait a week for the next episode good show old boy
Can you call it a cliff hangar when your sitting over the Grand Canyon! Way to dig into the vale of mystery this was Incredible, seems theres even more to the lamp than we thought!
I love the James and Rosie friendship going on. And Benson was nice for once, I certainly didn't expect that. And the story of the lamp was also interesting. Nice work as usual Victor.
Oh my word the origins backstory and flashbacks made this episode feel so surreal. This might be my favourite episode you’ve done since the modernisation arc with diesel
It was nice to see a flash back to Collin and Lilly. Also this is one of the most greatest episodes in my book, you deserve a medal for this one, most definitely.
This is undoubtedly the best episode of the series thus far. So much world-building with the Lucky Lamp & Sir Topham's origins, the cameo from Colin & Lily, and OH MY GOD THAT CLIFFHANGER. I'm so looking forward to next week's episode!......
So many revelations in this episode, and thats the next episode. The lucky lamp being Benson's? The Fat Controller and the lamp? The boulder? My so many things to put in my Victor Tanzig Archive. Also nice call back to Colin and Lily, even dead I hope they will still have a role in the series along with Adam.
It doesn’t really explain everything, we know where it came from and how it got onto Sodor but not about its lucky power and how it’s keep moving around
I liked this, the softer side of Benson, the mystery of the Lucky Lamp largely being solved, the new mystery with the Fat Controller, and the interaction between the SKR. Makes me excited for when Duncan finally comes back, will he return to form or will he remain enlightened, if a bit cranky? Who can say?
This was a great episode for 4 reasons 1. introduced us to the early life of Sir Topham Hat & the Lamp 2. The concept of one man’s blessing is another’s curse 3. That throughout all of this when the lucky lamp is around it causes controlled chaos without the cause of injury or death 4. Go back to episode Luck after this episode it answers so many questions
dam that ending was wow and of all engines the lamp belonged to just shocking for sure ofcourse given the lamp being lucky its no wonder they survived there job for so long
This was an important episode, because: 1. The intro was about an event prior to Episode 1, Season 1 2. It's revealed that The Fat Controller was involved in an act of bravery during wartime 3. It's revealed that, despite Stanley calling Sir Topham Hatt a Colonel, he was actually a Lieutenant. 4. It's the first time we see Benson being nice to someone, smiling in canon, pulling a train, and making a valid point. 5. It's revealed that Benson had a near-death experience during WWI, and was saved by the Lucky Lamp. 6. It's revealed that the Lucky Lamp, built for WWI, served during both World Wars. 7. It's the first time we see the Fat Controller suffering from PTSD.
I must say I never expected to see Benson's softer side! The chase scene with the boulder was really intense too, as was the Fat Hat's reaction to the Lucky Lamp! And oh boy, that last part did not sound good at all....
This was an incredible episode, one of the greatest ones you've made! The journey that the Lucky Lamp has gone through is nothing short of insane, and I get the sense that there's still more information about it that we're yet to find out. It's closely tied to three characters that I would never have thought to put together - Stanley, Benson and most shockingly of all, Sir Topham Hatt himself! I have a feeling that next week's episode may turn out to be even more intense than this one - that was a major cliffhanger to end on...
Oh... So the person that was saved in the beginning was The Fat Controller himself. And the ending.... So scary. Hope we can get these in the near future: Duncan's origin story Sir Thopam Hatts Origin Story.
I'm shocked! Genuinely, shocked and surprised and I'm still so curious! This Skarloey Railway Trilogy is going to end up to leading into a Forth Story and maybe an even bigger event in the future! Okay, first, we learned alot about some of the characters mainly Sir Topham Hatt, Sir Handel and the relationship between the two ("Toppy?"), Rusty, Stuart, Stanley and Benson! I think that is the reason why I like Benson now. He is inaccurate because because there were no GER Class S69 built or even used by the War Department. However the GER did supply Class C27, R24 and S56 to the War Department. 5:35 Why did Stanley even say that? He doesn't have buffers. And the Lady Rose model is inaccurate to those Hospital Ships used by the Royal Navy in World War I. Model inaccuracy is the only gripe I have about this episode. Everything else is pure praise!!!!! I'm paying attention to the dialouge here and I've noticed a lot that can be foreshadowing for the next story and maybe even a bigger event in Season 5! The lack of narration made the story more intriguing and more mysterious. I do like the character interactions in this one mainly Sir Topham Hatt and Sir Handel ("Toppy?"), James and Rosie and especially Stanley and Benson. It really revealed alot about Sir Topham, Stanley and Benson. The use of flashbacks were superb and really helped connect the dots all the way back to Season 1! I'm hyped for next week! It can't come soon enough!
This was amazing. I actully thought we were going to have the mystery of the lamp solved and I feel we did but more questions have just been asked. I feel though we are going into a "Sir Topham was abused as a patient" storyline.
What an episode! Something tells me that Sir Toppham's stay in the hospital in Carldon was far from the best. That Dr. Anderson is most definitely not what he seems to be. Looks like "Revelations" will most certainly live up to its name. On a lighter note, I liked the James and Rosie moments in this video, definitely some of the best.
@@christinejorgens6577 Possibly, back during the First World War, people didn't understand trauma like Shell Shock and thought that soldiers who got it were just cowards.
Here's what I think might of happened. When Benson lost the Lamp on his way to the front either Sir Topham, a soldier or another member of the ROD found the Lamp. Sometime later Sir Topham gets shellshock (WW1 talk for PTSD) after holding off an attack for an hour and is sent home for medical treatment. Some how both Sir Topham and the Lamp end up on the SS Lady Rose which is sunk during a storm. Now either during or after the sinking Sir Topham finds the Lamp which he then uses to flash an SOS sign to a passing destroyer which picks him up and transports him to Sodor. In his mental state Sir Topham is terrified of losing the one thing that gave him his life (perhaps not the best phrase but oh well) which is the Lamp. Which happens when Colin goes over the level crossing and ends up in the care of "Doctor" Anderson who if I remember right is related to the infamous Ballahoo Manor. Anderson treats Sir Topham for his shellshock which is largely successful... But upon seeing the Lamp for the first time since it had become "lost" it triggers lost and/or repressed memories of the war or the sinking or quite possibly both.
I always knew Benson was a good chap! Also, that devious smirk of his when he boasts to James that he ratted him out to Sir Topham is too funny! On another note, WHAT THE HELL DID ANDERSON DO TO SIR TOPHAM?!
This was a great episode, and ong og characters who died are back, wow, I'm glad you brought them back this way as are minder, but also made me kinda sad when the said when they fancied not being blown up, also it look like we may see a flashback episode, during 1917, this series is the best one so far, keep up the fantastic work victor
So we finally learn about the Lucky Lamp's origins! Great job. Always wondered where it came from. Including after we first learned about it in the "Luck" episode.
I have a bunch of comments, so I'll just list them here: -This episode starting with a cold open was really good! I hope more episodes start like this. -Billy Shoepack's appearance and explanation of what happened in between Trapped and this was really good to see. -Seeing James kind of be a part of this Fort Trio with Rosie and Benson was really nice, as well as seeing his relationship with Rosie again. -The boulder scene was actually done realistically (apart from the fact that it's a completely round boulder but you can't change that), so great job on that. -Sir Toppham's outburst upon seeing the lamp after all this time (PTSD?) was so unexpected. Yet again you display your amazing talent at displaying emotions with simple Trainz models. -And finally, seeing Colin and Lily again in the form of a flashback was really nice. I assume we're going to see something like that again in the episode about the W&S brakevan, so I'm looking forward to it. Overall, this was a brilliant episode. An amazing end to this "Skarloey Trilogy" as I'll call it. Amazing work on Season 4, Part 2 so far, Victor!

@@fanofeverything30465 , no Ivo is the engine I'm referring to as the lucky lamp was their connection to each other during the war!
@@NZHazard That was Stanley
It's good having the lamp back.
And an origin story from where it came from.
Amazing!!!
That ending was, strange to say the least. Amazing and awesome video. SPOLERS! : I loved the Boulder getting a part in this and the aspects of the war
Maybe fix that....
It was so great seeing Lily and Collin again. And with bright, shiny models too!
We went from stories on Sodor to going deep into the history and how it all connects and I love it!
The lore dump in this is insane 10/10
I mean, How can i not LOVE this episode?? It shows the following things:
1)After we saw duncan being a pleasant chap, Now we see Benson on his good core.
2)James and Rosie do be flirtin tho
3)That opening scene was epic, and the ending too was epic, i mean, the lucky lamp is a complete god at this point
4)After their tragic demises, we get to see both Colin & Lily getting some moments of screentime
Talk about nerve racking,I think that man did some serious shit to those people in need.
This episode stunned me. I was so surprised when I found out Fat Controller had the lamp. I loved everything about the backstory.
I literally can't explain how shocked and proud and scared of this episode I am.
That whole bit with Stuart, Falcon, and Rusty regarding Stuart being good at math is definitely a Red Vs. Blue reference. I love it.
That ending was Mysterious... god damn it victor you had to do us like that with the cliff hanger
Everything comes together,perfect
The beginning was a nice change.
This series never fails to throw a hell of a curve ball out of the simplest if things. Can't wait to see the next episode.
Nice to see Colin and Lily back after so many years. And this episode, I swear to God! It was epic!
Man, that cliffhanger at the end is frightening. But still, great job, Victor!
Neither did I. But then again, we're all anticipating here what would happen between Thomas and Kate in the upcoming "Relationships" episode.
Love the way the new episode is uploaded on a Friday morning
I'm at a lost for words after watching this and learning about the Lucky Lamp's true origins.
Absolutely marvelous! The fat controller's past has been something I've been keen about.
Oh. My. Gosh.
This explains EVERYTHING! Where the lamp came from, who used it and owned it, and so on. Great episode!
It doesn’t really explain everything, we know where it came from and how it got onto Sodor but not about its lucky power and how it’s keep moving around
I like how these two plots integrated with each other. Though it’s still hard to wrap my head around Topham’s connection to the lamp
This is possibly, besides one or two of the war stories, the Darkest episode in the series, and one of the best to boot, bravo Victor
This was a great episode for 4 reasons
1. introduced us to the early life of Sir Topham Hat & the Lamp
2. The concept of one man’s blessing is another’s curse
3. That throughout all of this when the lucky lamp is around it causes controlled chaos without the cause of injury or death
4. Go back to episode Luck after this episode it answers so many questions
This was probably the most cinematic and
Mysterious stories of sodor that I've seen.
The last line had me disturbed, but in a good way. Nice to see Lily and Colin again, and as always, solid story.
this is probably one of the most unique takes on topham and i honestly really enjoy it.
Man this show never fail to impress! It just keeps great better, deeper and weirder, I love it!
Oh, my, gosh, that was unexpected but so flipping incredible. Topham with severe PTSD, by George we're onto something incredible here.
dam that ending was wow and of all engines the lamp belonged to just shocking for sure ofcourse given the lamp being lucky its no wonder they survived there job for so long
This might be my favourite episode of the series. Well done Victor; a real master class
This was an important episode, because:
1. The intro was about an event prior to Episode 1, Season 1
2. It's revealed that The Fat Controller was involved in an act of bravery during wartime
And we got to see Collin and Lilly again.
@@EddieMillerStudios Not to mention we learn that Stuart is smart in math.
Great job on the origins of the lucky lamp Victor.
I know its only a flashback, but it's good to see Colin and Lily again.
Oh...
So the person that was saved in the beginning was The Fat Controller himself.
And the ending....
So scary.
Hope we can get these in the near future:
Duncan's origin story
Sir Thopam Hatts Origin Story.
And what ever happened to Sir Thopam Hatt att that hospital was, I think, a nightmare.
Wait until this upcoming monday, my friend.

@@BlooMonkiMan Oh yes the trailer My bad sorry 😞
Words can't do this episode justice, it's THAT good. Just what I needed to see after a rough work week :)
That last line put shivers down my spine
11:38 damn didnt know that fat man is such a badass
It's great to see Lily and Collin after so long.
I have no idea how I'm gonna be able to wait a week for the next episode. I can barely wait a day or two normally.
Same.
Such a amazing Episode, My Jaw was Dropped throughout especially at the end.
That was the most exciting and amazing episode I have ever seen of all the series of stories of sodor.
Brilliant work Victor 👏 You are a legend.
Why am I thinking that Dr Anderson is one of those kinds of people who enjoy tormenting patients or traumatized individuals as a hobby!
@@christinejorgens6577 Possibly, back during the First World War, people didn't understand trauma like Shell Shock and thought that soldiers who got it were just cowards.
I still have yet to catch up, but am making progress for my first binged series
Edit: finally watching this. I'm surprised I caught up so quickly
To Quote Henry: "Why Am I Suddenly Scared Beyond Belief"? Great Work As Always Victor.
Nice to see you used elements from my favourite Thomas episode!
Rusty and the Boulder is my favourite Thomas episode too!
My favourite as well
I love that we finally see the soft side of benson instead of the typical pokerfaced drill sergeant
Also that ending gave me chills
Okay what the flipping heck happened to Sir Topham Hatt? I guess we'll find out in the next episode....
Hope so.
There were probably some enemy shells and bombs that killed them during WWII. First the Air Force and then Germany.
This is definitely my favourite episode out of all of season 4
Why does that last line terrify me beyond belief?
In all seriousness, another good one from you, Victor!
One of your best works. It was worth being up early for it. Cant wait for next week even more.
I can not believe he actually had the boulder go on a run 🤣😂. It was awesome.
So we finally learn about the Lucky Lamp's origins! Great job. Always wondered where it came from. Including after we first learned about it in the "Luck" episode.
Victor, as much as I love your content, PLEASE STOP LEAVING US WITH CLIFFHANGERS! I can’t wait another week to see what happened!
I have a bunch of comments, so I'll just list them here:
-This episode starting with a cold open was really good!
Best episode of the season victor well done looking forward to learning more about with the doctor us gonna do to sir topham and what hes real full backstory really is
Hands down best season so far. Keep it up!
Another episode with a Cold Opening.
