I really am a fan of this update. I've used Noteshelf, OneNote, LectureNotes and others. Samsung Notes is the best now and is a big upgrade from the old interface. However, I would really like Samsung to correct some things to make this app even better:
- Urgently improve the quality of PDF versions. It looks pixelated and ugly.
- Enable us to skip lines before the image when an image comes after.
- Add new fonts.
- Add integration with OneNote (possibly is an update to come in November).
I don't know if there is already a discussion about it, but I wanted to understand why Samsung does not launch a web interface that we can view our notes (gallery, etc.), like Apple with iCloud. Would it be perfect since the company only makes apps available on their devices.
Completely agree with everything you mentioned, hopefully they implement them on the near future (specially the web visualization of ttheir apps)!!
You can download a pc version of Samsung Notes if you have a laptop that isn't Apple. Log onto Microsoft store through your web browser then go to Samsung Notes, add to cart, and "purchase." Then go to the store app and go to your order in your account and then download it. You'll need to make sure you have a Samsung account to sync

@@norai.9188 I was having the same issue with my hp envy. I searched for the samsung notes app online and downloaded it that way, recent updates and all! Then when I checked with the Microsoft store it registered as downloaded.

@@RegularTeenager Something off topic: Can we expect a review and comparison, after you gain some experience with samsung notes? My lectures start in a week and I bought the Tab S6 this summer. I will use this app and I am too lazy to try every good notes app out there, but still curious how SN performs compared to others.

I try it out immediately in my tab when you mention Samsung notes updated and DAMN I LOVE THE UPDATE bless samsung for this update. I was just looking for note taking app since I keep changing, trying and deleting all of em. Just haven't felt comfortable with it like found lots of those app lack something, though all the feature in Samsung note was just the one I've been looking. Greattt now I can continue my study with this as my main app~

I've been using the samsung apps for some months now since I bought the galaxy tab a8. And this recent update was a game changer. I love the app even more. I spent the whole afternoon watching videos on the "best note-taking app", looking for something better than samsung notes, just to find this video and conclude that I still love samsung notes and will keep using it XD BTW... the option for zooming to be able to write works now on landscape mode too

This video was so useful for me. I've been using Samsung S6 lite for more than a month now and I wasn't aware of so many features like the shape corrector and flowing panel thing especially after the new update. It literally helped me a lot. Really beneficial and also subscribed 😀

It's funny: I actually PREFER this interface. More computer minded, I guess (and less skeuomorphic) - I Liked the folders and subfolder a lot, and the versatility of tags. Really handy system and sharp, concise, without unnecessary things (like Evernote). At least to my usage. All the goodies without the fat (and the pay). Specially on tablets / DeX mode, a bluetooth mouse and keyboard adds so much to the experience!
His channel is really great, I'm Brazilian and I watch him looking for information on the Tab s6 to buy it with the intention of replacing a physical notebook, I already used the iPad 6 with apple pencil .. But I had to sell it, now I try to get the Tab S6.
I heard that the noteshelf app had a lot of bugs but it was updated and now it works very well, could you make more videos about it please.

Wow I just bought a s7+. I use one note on my laptop to take notes during lecture. I can't wait to start using this app too. I didn't know it could do all of this! So excited.
I still think the really old version which comes with the choice of book cover, and gather your notes in different notebook , and you can choose the template you want, even recipes template, is so much better. Now it feels more like a memo app or any random free app you can find on google play
I think you're talking about S notes and yeah, that app is really good and could be even better if they'd continue updating it. I also agree that the ui of the samsung notes app is not designed for students, it's more of a memo app, as you mentioned
Pdf, automatic shapes, and note recording along with black background has made this app even better

I have a note 10+ and had the same frustration as you when trying to use the handwriting thing on landscape mode. I hope Samsung fix it on next updates. After this update, this app became my main note taking app.
For those with limited screen sizes: I'm using a Galaxy Note 9 to take notes while watching online classes in the same screen and I'm doing fine. The way I got around this was using the latest and greatest Samsung notes which provides you with and option to open SN as a... "extra screen" (looks like when you open an app in windows) which can be turn black and then drop opacity levels. Anyone who has a big enough device and a stylus: consider giving it a try.

I really like samsung Notes! I'm using it on the new tab s7. But you're right... I was also sad that I couldn't use the zoom box in landscape mode. Hoping that they will adjust that...
I'm still planning to use it for my upcoming first year of university, because I like it better than Noteshelf.
The release of the tab s7 is bringing a lot of useful updates to apps!! Hope that they add a landscape functionality for the zoom box soon:)!
I bought noteshelf weeks before this amazing update so yeah, I kind of feel forced to use it now. I hope it will get all the iOS features, at least

Yeah there were flaws with the samsung notes app but I still use it as my daily university worksheet but when the update came just OMG finally dark mode and finally pages for notes

During the week I've been using the samsung notes app with the new features, I still find myself returning to noteshelf/LectureNotes but I think that as time goes on, I'm going to be moving to samsung notes if noteshelf doesn't catch up.
Regarding the features:
Samsung notes:
- Auto sync across different devices on their own cloud service
- Being able to see what you were writing with audio recordings
- Infinite folder creation
- More pen options
- A drawing attachment that has its own set of unique pens
I can continue but I think those are some of the most important ones
Noteshelf:
- your notes are created on the idea of a notebook and you can customize the look of it
- noteshelf club (free notebook covers and paper templates)
- templates are pdfs and not images
- Evernote compatibility (i don't use it but I've heard that it's useful for people that do)
- You have control over pressure sensitivity
- A minimalist ui
- Regular updates
An important thing I wanna mention tho is that even though from this list it seems that noteshelf doesn't have too much to offer it actually shares some really good features like a search feature that can look up things you wrote, typed or that are in a pdf, and they both have a really good writing experience!

@@RegularTeenager Thanks for the comparison. I find myself using the Samsung notes app but I will purchase noteshelf as I might find the UI more comfortable. One of the reasons y I lean more towards Samsung notes is that a lot of students could buy the s6&s7 as it has some pretty cool features now. B4 everyone just used to think of the device as a media consumption device. So if people start liking the tablet as a note-taking device and use Samsung notes more I'm pretty sure that Samsung will keep enhancing their app and make it special for Samsung tablets. On the other hand, I feel like noteshelf could take sometime to catch up as they r currently working on 3 platforms (android and iOS as well as windows in the future). Basically I see more potential n sNotes than Noteshelf but I will definitely try both. Thanks again for the comparison 👍
My writing looks way better in Noteshelf for some reason. If Samsung Notes had the same feature maybe I would've kept using it.

Great Review, I'm not in college yet but really appreciate this in- depth review. It was great, I think you covered everything. I too use it has an app for my thoughts and having it synced with my phone makes me more inclined to keep it like that.

Option to share as PDF, Word, PowerPoint is a massive feature that other apps don't offer
When ss note is exported to Word, does it export as an image embedded in a word document or are are the words transferred in text so then we can use MS Word functions to word count or word search also edit etc?

the recording while writing feature is a big selling point for me. was gonna purchase iPad because it has notability with a similar feature. but even the least expensive 32gb iPad + pencil adds up to about $400. Whereas tab s6 lite 64 GB comes with a stylus in $330. So now the decision of which note-taking the device to buy is so simple

I don't know if it was in this video or in the one where you compared noteshelf and samsung notes, but in one of them you said that you can't use interactive planers. I just found out that if you deactivate writing it works. Hope it helps if you didn't know and btw I love you videos, they really helped me find the right app for me. Thanks
Hi. Do you know if there's an option to use the zoom box in landscape mode when taking notes with the Galaxy Note 20? I read about the workaround to double press the all pages icon to enable it in the Galaxy tab,, but it seems to me that icon is not even shown on the smartphone version of Samsung notes. The zoom box in the smartphone only works in portrait mode, the landscape zoom box only shows in split mode, otherwise it is grayed out as it used to happen in the tablet.
I'm some months late, but I recently ordered a Tab S7 plus. I was wondering, what is the size of a file with let's say 5 pages of lecture notes?
And also, is there a time limit for the audio recording? It could be a very interesting feature, but I guess that with larger files it would become a bit sloppy!

I think they let us add pdf as well in our notes.. becoz in my phone when i open any pdf file system asks for either to use Adobe (which i generally use) or the samsung notes app.

I love my tablet but wish I had the one that came with a stylus so I could have pressure sensitivity... I was using onenote before and didnt like the endless page idea, thanks for this vid, I didnt know samsung notes had so many features!!!

I was really impressed by the update! It's still not perfect but it's clearly usable! I noticed that when you create a pdf from your notes and zoom in it, it's not as clear as with Noteshelf for example. Have you noticed too? Oh, btw, great video as usually

I don't see the same 4 tool bar add-ons. Did they change the app? I'm working with a Galaxy Tab A and am interested in the auto-fix shape feature.
I think that the best notetaking app for android is xodo, cause you can save your documents in your cloud storage system, or into your sd card or even in your tablet, and each time that you modify your document it automatically saves.
I don't have the handwritting to text convert icon ony samsung galaxy A52, do you know why?
Is there a Cloud where you can safe your notes and work with them with other terminals?
Just got my S6 Lite yesterday with the express purpose of taking notes. I quite liked the default Samsung Notes app because it provided a really nice writing experience & many language conversion (I'm studying a second language so it's nice to see if the device is able to recognise my writing). But it was missing grid paper. How could it not have grid paper?
That alone led me to look for other options, and was right about to buy Noteshelf after watching another of your videos before I saw this one. You just saved me a few dollars! It was insanely weird to me that I had to go into the 'Galaxy Store' and update it though - didn't get delivered via the Play Store. This is my first Samsung device so I don't know if that's a normal approach for Samsung first party apps?
It is usually like that for Samsung-developed apps, I guess they want their customers to get exclusivity over other devices. They also release some of these updates by groups (sometimes the groups are made considering region, the device you're using, etc.) so don't panic if you ever see someone with an update you haven't received, if your device and region are receiving it, you'll probably just have to wait a little!

I like the updated Samsung Notes and i actually used it last week..
I REALLY MISS though the "page actions" that squib has, in which i can insert a new page (new template) between the slides and make clean notes for every different slide/topic....and of course save it all as part of the pdf in the exact position i want..

You can actually insert a new page with a different template with samsung notes, after creating the new page you can go to page template, select the one you want, and deselect "apply to all pages" so that all the previous pages stay the same and all the new ones you create have the new paper template:)!

in my app there are no folder option just a category option. The app seems to be updated

Another downside of Samsung Notes is the platform specificness of it. It's not just only available on Android, but also only on Samsung devices specifically. I am really wary of using platform-specific apps and prefer using apps that are available on most if not all platforms, to give me the greatest freedom. That way, if I ever want to use a different platform I am not as troubled by having to find alternative apps on the new platform to take over the tasks I was performing with another app on the old platform. So it's bad enough that Samsung Notes is Android-specific, but on top of that locks me into Samsung devices.
I do recall the recent presentation by Samsung when they announced the S7 and other new devices, and they also announced greater cooperation and integration with Microsoft, which includes Samsung Notes syncing with Microsoft OneNote. But then why wouldn't I just use OneNote in the first place, which is very platform-independent?
You made a great point that I didn'teven think about. I totally agree, it also happens with the desktop version of the app, you cannot use it if your laptop is not samsung... I also recall listening something about OneNote and, until now, I haven't seen anything about it, maybe they'll add it in the future but even in that case, as you said, you can always use OneNote without needing samsung notes...
I can download samsung notes on the windows store though - so its PC compatible!
@@BreMue it is but I cannot download it because, from what I've read, you can only do so if you have a samsung computer
@@RegularTeenager whilst that is true, I managed to download the apk for samsung notes windows version :P my pc is an Asus and I have Samsung Notes installed and works just fine. It's android and windows, there's always a way. Non-samsung android phones can also just download the Samsung Notes apk and voilá, problem solved. It's android, we always have options people :P
The unpacked event said there would be some OneNote integration in November. So we will see. This app is now better than OneNote for Android, so it we got some desktop sync, I'd be using it more.
@1:20 can you use your finger to drag and drop notes to different files? That seems like it would be very helpful.

Yeah, if I'm not mistaken, the tab s6 lite doesn't support spen gestures and that's one of them
I want to sync Samesung Notes on phone with Win10; however the Microsoft Store says the Samsung Notes app is incompatible with this device (Win10).
I found a post stating Samsung Notes was replaced with S Note.
how can I write my notes in sideways vertical ?
I need to transfer all my notes from "noteverything" which is now unsupported app not in store either. 10 years of notes and files. All done on samsung phone. I transferred one file to my on board samsung note(I have never used). The file looked fine after transfer but it is a long file and I need to be able to search for like account name. I did not see a search tool.
If I choose Samsung to transfer my 250 folders and 3000 files, will I be able to word search without having to go add tags or anything? Or would Samsung be a method to get my large volume of valuable notes off this old unsupported note app into the best note keeper for my purposes. I dont need ordered, named folders, text notes, searchable, ability to share note(s) to print or email etc. Will Samsung be able to search? Does Samsung have folder limit?
You mention conversion tool. Will it do all in bulk or one more at time then have to recreate folders etc?
I'd love to see somebody do a history of Samsung Notes, since it started to gain popularity and becoming something more than just a simple note-taking app.
Hi! Nice video. I'm still exploring this, I don't know why there isn't a rotate option when I select something with lasso tool.
I think that rotation is sadly only available for shapes and images at the moment. Hopefully they implement it in the near future:)!

Do you know how to import powerpoint to samsung notes?
Does this allow rotation for lasso selection? In noteshelf it's allowed only at the moment you add an image
You can only rotate shapes and images, still no rotation for handwritten notes but I've heard they are working to implement it soon:)!
I have an issue. All my notes are black/dark. When I export as pdf or jpeg, the app invert the colors. It's a mess. Do you know how to solve that?
a while ago i almost pay for a note taking app and im glad i didn't cause i think the upgrade of samsung note is amazing and now i only use samsung notes to write down all my notes

@@StudyTime-if6gp you just have to wait for the update. In the mean time if you look online you can find the updated version and download it (just backup your notes first)

It me, my chromebook died not long after i got it and so i planning now to get a tab s6 lite and wanted to see what samsung notes looks like. Looks pretty good imo.

If it's typed text, you can change the font size once it's pasted. If it's handwritten notes you can always resize it using the selection tool:)!
