This was very candid and clear. Absolutely beneficial and loved each minute of it. The distinction made between reason that Allah honored us with versus the Greek reasoning was surprisingly simple. These are deeper scholarly discussions, and the way Imam Facchine presents them for us is unique. I ask Allah to succeed Utica Masjid.

MashaAllah TabarakAllah...So many of the "scholars" chastise the youth and those new to Islam, and well everyone about asking questions. SubhanAllah It can be so disheartening at times especially when any question one may ask is to truly understand for this life and the next. For me, I just put my head down and asked Allah (swt) to guide me in these waves and depths of oppression. 19 years later, I am still putting my head down begging for guidance and holding onto HIS (swt) rope. Alhamdullilah
Imam Tom, your way of explaining is such a breath of fresh air, in an environment of toxic pollution. Alhamdullilah

There is no Religion/ Faith without Reason. But ,that does not apply to those who are Deaf, Dumb n Blind, whose hearts are Veiled. With Reason, only then one can ,with Certainty, discern the TRUTH from Falsehood. In the beginning of one's journey, I guess it's Tough, Really Tough.

Mashallah.. nice explaination.. I was wondering what about "Amnna wa sadakna" were does this apply for reasoning. I have seen mostly in Asia, when someone challenges or reasons, the scholars will shut them by saying "Amanna wa Sadakna".. maybe Shaikh can do a part 2 on this topic

    Few notes/questions
    1. "Though the greats of Islamic theology rebuked it and refuted it" .. who? , the continuation of Greek logic within Islamic context after ibn-timyya seems to have been very little influenced by his propositions, and mildly criticized it, isn't it ?, heard this in a lecture or read it in a book.
    2. There is an "internal"? logic used throughout Quran and Sunna to convince us, i find this statement shaky, Quran often refers to the "external", to some elements of and sometimes to the whole existence, ( ... او لم يروا ... او لم يتفكروا في) ، in what regards this is internal?
    3. (This is a personal struggle, I will be thankful to people who can shed lights here ) How do you define the relation between Quran and history, the sheer volume of knowledge - and even technology which recurs back to human interactions [a subject of Quranic dialogue], - we could produce throughout human history and specially in modern era seems to make some parts of Quran indirect and/or irrelevant, articles as حوى علوم الاولين والاخرين - seems to be articles of faith or it means something indirect.
I could go on to further this latest point but stopping here for briefing .

Regarding your first question, pretty much all of the early Hadith scholars refuted the use of Kalaam (i.e. applying Aristotilean logic and Neoplatonist theophilosophy in interpreting the Qur'aan and Sunnah). This includes the 4 Imaams of Fiqh as well. Plenty of books compile the statements and arguments of the Salaf and early Hadith scholars in this regard including Dham Al-Kalaam by Imaam Al-Harawi, the Naqd and Radd 'Ala Al-Jahmiyyah by Imaam Ad-Daarimee, Ar-Rad 'Ala Al-Jahmiyyah by Imam Ibn Mandah, Al-Haydah wa al-I'tidhar by Al-Kinani, Ar-Rad 'ala al-Mu'attilah by Al-Hakim at-Tirmidhi, Al-Rad 'ala Al-Zanadiqa wal-Jahmiya by Imam Ahmad, as well as various Aqeedah texts such as Ash-Sharee'ah by Al-Aajurri, Al-Ibaanah Al-Kubraa by Ibn Battah, Sharh Usool Al-I'tiqaad by Al-Laalakaai, the various Kitaab As-Sunnah by Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal, Ibn Abi 'Aasim, Harb Al-Kirmaani, Al-Khallaal, various Rasaa'il of Aqeedah from the first 4 centuries, and the list goes on and on. Sadly, you still had the Mutakillimoon writing books of theology/Mantiq using Greek philosophy well after this time. You even have Aristotle's Categories translated into Arabic poems like As-Sallam Al-Munawwraq by Al-Akhdari which became standard texts of study within Islamic Madrasahs untill this day, largely due to sociopolitical reasons.

You can accuse anyone of being arrogant when he asks you a question to which you have no answer..
