I think the Spurs have a bigger plan behind this trade. My sense is, they will use the future draft picks as trade assets to acquire somebody or two that fit their roster needs more like a veteran wing/shooter and a big man (Hartenstein?).... Spurs front office is one of the best in the league. They always plan everything 3 to 5 steps ahead with the bigger picture in mind. Unfortunately fans don't know what their plan is so we just need to be patient and trust them.

R.C. Buford is retired. Wemby is screwed. 2025 picks are lottery protected. Only one is our own guaranteed. If the Spurs go 30-52, they still screwed that's not a guaranteed top 4 pick, the Pistons had the worst record and got the 5th pick. It's the same in 2026. From the time he has taken over as GM he is the only Spurs Gm to not make the playoffs or have a winning record. Even Bob Briner made the playoff as spurs GM. That’s nothing against him it’s just he has the same tenure as the current GM. Jack Ankerson another spurs GM was only with the spurs 1 season. He made the playoff as spurs gm. My point is the current GM has nothing to show so far. And it’s only been 2 seasons for him but look at things has done good and the things that will irritate spurs fans.

Was the trade controversial? Actually Dillingham might have been controversial because of his size and inability to play defense.
They gained a future number one pick and a pick swap in exchange for the #8 pick in this year’s draft.
Minnesota is planning for 2024-25, so they did not care about things in 2030 and 2031.
Atlanta traded away a bunch of picks in order to obtain Dejounte Murray from the Spurs. They were preparing for the present and did not care about the future.
The Spurs appear to be planning for a long run of good seasons in the future.
We all have to trust their plan.

As a Spurs Fan, we’ve learned to delay gratification, AKA eating shit after the Kawhi trade for 5 years until finally getting another generational talent for the 3rd time in Spurs history. I think ol Brian panicked when Salaun got nabbed at 8. He freaked and couldn’t recover and thought he’d get creative and mix it up a little bit and call it a day.
