  • A beautiful place called Markandeya hill
This is less explored and not among the popular places near Kolar. It's 15 km on Kolar-Malur road and just 65 kilometres from Bengaluru.
Tourists are 'recommended' to explore Markandeya Hill that is situated close to the Vokkaleri Village in Kolar District of Karnataka. This site has been named after Sage Markandeya. According to local belief, this place had been used by Markandeya for performing tapas. Upon reaching Markandeya Hill, you would get the chance to see a temple and reservoir that have been labelled with a similar name. The temple located on this hill is renowned among devotees for the Yama pasha marks. Markandeya Hill is surrounded by thick forests and, therefore, it is the ideal site for travellers who want to spend time amidst calm surroundings.
    Highlights of this Temple:
    * The temple has a history of more than a thousand years and is believed to be constructed by Cholas
    * Lord Shiva in form of Markandeshwara is worshipped here.
    * Believed to have links with Markandeya Purana. Markandeya - son of sage Bhrigu is said to have conducted poojas here & hence the spot is named after his name.
    * The temple is situated on a Hillock known by "Markandeya Hill / Betta"
    * Other sanctums include Bhairaveshwara, Nandeeshwara Nandi idols

How come the pronunciation of a place's name changes when they say it English? Mar-kan-de-yaa : even u can say in English u can sound similar to the original ....... Never change the sound
