BMW M340i G20 REVIEW Perfect daily? From the perspective of an M car owner

  • In summary, the only car you will ever need! It really is a Jack of all trades! This is my first car review so I hope I managed to cover all interesting aspects of this beautiful M340i. It really surprised me. I didn't think that non-M car can feel so capable and be so easy to live with at the same time. Sure, I didn't excite me as much as my M2 but as a family car, this car is perfect.

    Nice review. That's the thing about the M340i, you can see your appreciation of the car increasing the more you drove it. I have one, its the best all round car I've ever had.

    What you said about the car feeling slower than you're going is the issue with our m850i. At 70mph it feels like half that. Even my dad asked "how do you do the speed limit in this thing?". It's an active conscious effort.

    • @MDrives
      @MDrives  Před rokem

      I think it’s a problem with many modern bmw. They hide speed well which can be a good thing when you are trying to travel in comfort but not great when you want to have some fun.

    Had mine a while now. Best daily driver I have ever had. Comfortable, 44MPG on longer motorway trips but spectacular on a country road with great road holding. Nice and discreet and not shouty like an M3.

  • @FastRedPonyCar
    @FastRedPonyCar Před rokem +2

    I've got a new LCI version of the m340i ordered. Can't wait for it to arrive. I drove an M3 comp and M340i back to back the same day on the same roads and I agree about the comfort. I was fully anticipating that I would order an M3 but the stiffer and more aggressive nature of the seats, suspension and throttle response just wasn't as comfortable. I also rode in an M5 and if I had the budget, I absolutely would have gotten that as it felt like a slightly larger and faster version of the M340i. The M340i didn't seem like a trimmed down M3 but rather a slower and slightly smaller and a tad more nimble M5.
    The M340i in sport mode and adaptive M suspension had that perfect sharp but not overly aggressive and twitchy throttle response, a tight but not harsh suspension and supportive but still comfortable seats (and the vernasca leather felt much better than the optioned alcantara in the M3). Also, just a personal preference but the M340i I drove had the M-sport exhaust and I thought it sounded much nicer than the M3 exhaust.
    Regarding the readability of the display, I had the head up display showing the RPM's and it was nice and very sharp and easily readable so I think that makes up somewhat for the dash layout, although, as I am soon coming to the end of a Tesla Model 3 performance lease, ANY kind of dash information will be a welcome change 😄

    Synthetic is a good description. I found it fast but too detached. The Driver Assist and run flats make it awful in the wet in my experience. The ride bends it out of shape, then it tries to correct itself with electronics. It might be outright quicker than my Legacy 3.0R Spec B (6MT), but on a damp B road I'd pick a 2000s Subaru every time.

    Thanks for the review, it's helping to raise my anticipation to dangerous levels. Just started the ordering process for a 2022 M340i X-Drive but who knows how long it'll take at this point and what options I'll actually get (Shooting for fully loaded minus the Cooling and High Performance Tire Package). Opted to go for the 2022 and not wait for the 2023, don't like the screens and lack of physical controls on the 2023 LCI. Did yours come with the competition seat belts from the factory? I didn't see an option to add them online.
