  • Honda Clarity Vlog [HCV04] - Its been nearly 3 months of ownership and 5,000 miles of owning my Crimson Red 2018 Honda Clarity Plugin Hybrid. I got all weather mats for her ( amzn.to/2VIaxBh ) which were great with all the road trips! I decided to call her Claire. I will be creating more vlogs and blogs about my experience with I prep and go on road trips with her. RoadTripping with Claire!
In this blog post, I found out fun feature on the 2018 Honda Clarity infotainment unit: you can customize SKIN of the unit. It essentially changes theme and buttons to larger square buttons and short cuts to quickly access menu items instead of having to drill down a menu.
Over the past 3 months i really dislike the menu system. The HOME, MENU, and Back buttons were too hard to reach for when driving. They were 1/2 inch icons that were hard to quickly press to go to Android Auto. I also hated the lack of a Volume Knob. My 2017 Chevy Volt was much easier to use with big buttons , responsive touch controls, and tactile knobs and push buttons to quickly navigate the infotainment system without distraction. I wanted the same big buttons on my 2018 Honda Clarity.
In order to change your Infotainment skin, press the home button and go to SETTINGS - CHANGE SKIN . It will convert your design of your interface from the rectangular monochrome buttons to vivid boxy colorful menu . The new skin made most of the useful categories in a larger easier to reach square box, such as INFO, Audio, Android Auto and settings. You can rearrange each category by pressing and holding the item. I placed mine so Android Auto and INFO were close to the drivers side.
Using the alternate Skin allows the changing of the be colorful background. You can choose between various wall papers already in the system, live wallpapers that interact with your touch, or even upload images for background. To get to this menu, you need to go to Settings - Detailed Information. This will open the Infotainment unit details menu to access image files and other settings. Go to display settings and choose a new wallpaper!

I just got a Clarity Touring with 22k miles. What an under appreciated used car value! Far less expensive that a corolla hybrid and so much nicer to drive

Interesting video and didn't look into this but I will change the skin. BTW, I see your EV range showed 43 miles on the battery. Have you gotten more than the 47 miles of EV range yet given you've had the car for a while. Thanks.

When i first got Claire i put 55 ev miles on the first charge, however i am now averaging 47 miles.

I believed the range changes at times like for instance winter I don't get much ev miles average 38 miles but during summer I tapped out at 47 miles.. I don't how to explained scientifically.

@@marksales5830 Honda has a funky algorithm that estimates the range mileage based on how you drive. If you just use the electric mode for < 45mph, the estimated mileage should go up. Also, you want to be kind to your battery for battery longevity, not charging it too high or discharging it too low. I charge mine to about 75% from the Hondalink app (or battery charge bars) and try not to discharge it below 30%.

Where can you find the lifetime EV slash gas miles for the car? I just bought a used one with 55,000 miles so I'm curious how much of those miles were electric only.
