Dark Side Of The Moon was the first album I bought at the age of 15 in 1973. Had to mow a lot of lawns to save up that money. They have remained my favorite band through all these decades, and all the bands I've loved since. They speak to me in a way that no other band has.
Pink Floyd is the cerebral band of rock. This song, to me, describes our typical life span. When we are young and have 30,000 days of life left (approx) waisting a day or two is not important, so we fritter and waist the days away. By the end of the song, now we are old, retired and relaxing in our chair beside the fireplace. Next comes our funeral; "far away, across the field, the tolling of the iron bell (church) calls the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell." (Priest giving the funeral sermon) Roger Waters was in his late 20s' when he wrote those lyric! That in itself is mind blowing! This song is one that we tend to appreciate more the older we become. I am 73 and Waters has this 'spot on'!

I think the difference with Pink Floyd is that……most bands write songs about love, relationships, or situations…..but, Pink Floyd writes songs about “the human condition”. They write about….memories, feelings (other than love) and life (everyday normal life). That’s why they get into your head and your heart….because we all have these same feelings and situations that shape who we are, and how we handle and react to situations in our lives. The other thing about PF is…..they were never about “getting a big hit on the radio”. They were artists, not just musicians.

My sister had the studio version of this record, and I was listening to this song on one of my visits back home. It really hit me in my heart. I had dropped out of college about 9 years earlier, and was thinking about going back. I had, I thought, "missed the starting gun." But I did go back to the university, graduated, and went on to earn my PhD and have a 32-year career as a mathematics professor. The twists and turns of life. Thank you, Becky.

If you havent already, their song The Great Gig In The Sky from the Pulse Tour is a must watch. The most beautiful song with out a word being sung, just raw emotion representing knowledge that someone is dying and their acceptance of it.

I was at the Pulce concert in Chicago in 94. It sounds strange but i honestly feel like they too me to meet our maker that day. It was a magical experience and I am forever grateful I was there. You are starting to see why they are as good as they are and one of those iconic bands. I feel 500 years from now people will be listening to Pink Floyd the way we listen to Bach Beethoven and the other great classical composers.

I can't speak for those people who don't get Pink Floyd, whether out of ignorance, or a lack of maturity, or just the plain honest reality that they are just not of the type who gets it, whatever that type can be defined by. But, I can speak for those of us who do get Pink Floyd, and just so you know, we know those thoughts and feelings that words don't do justice in conveying, that you search for, we know. There is beauty even in the unease we sense when listening. There is understanding, a lucidity. So much of the ether is captured and encapsulated in the sounds and rhythms, the words giving a nudge towards the desired conclusion but yet not the driver of that journey entirely. They are on another level, not in musicianship per se, but on connectivity, and their musicianship is masterful too, but it is that connectivity that is truly unique.
For people hearing Pink Floyd the first time. It's like the music and the lyrics reach inside you 0and give you something you didn't know you loved and needed. This whole album has been one of my favorites since I first heard it in 1973. The lyrics get more poignant as the years roll by. As much as I love seeing the concert, listening to the whole album nonstop is the best way. You guys are on a wonderful journey together. Love each other and enjoy each other FOR the differences.

I was 1994 in the Concert at Niedersachsen Stadion in Germany! It was the best Concert and Tour I ever seen, I lost my Words till I at Home! This Concert Performance was so far above everything and above all other Concerts, Pink Floyd is in a different league musically and lyrical mindblowing. Pink Floyd is the greatest Band of all Time and no one can compare with them. By the Way, the Album "Dark Side of the Moon" has this Year anniversary. To me Pink Floyd are the band of life. They take you on a complete journey of your life from memories of your child hood to current memories and how life passes you by . Memories of people who we have loved ( family, friends) who were here but have now gone to heaven. All of there songs have some reflection on these types of memories to me😊

When i saw them live in 1975 at Pittsburgh inside 3 rivers stadium i was in Awe !!! They did whole wish you were here lp then entire Dark Side of the Moon LP and encore with ECHOES from meddle lp. I was tripping on acid. I walked away mindblown and couldn’t describe what i just witnessed but it was SPECTACULAR and I Was in so much awe that words were not there ! I was speechless. I walked away from that a different person. Like a Spiritual Experience

You are absolutely correct that a certain level of maturity really helps in a full appreciation of their music, and it always was their intent to not just put on a good show, but to create an experience for the audience! In case you didn't know, for this concert series they added an additional rhythm guitarist, a second drummer (standing), and a second keyboardist/singer....this all really contributed to the fullness of sound of these concerts! Roger Waters was raised by a single, war widow, who was a teacher and always intentional about preparing her son for life, That's what this song is about, and his realization that unless you are very intentional, life will just happen to you regardless of when you choose to participate. AT 59 yrs old, I can tell you exactly where I was the first time I heard their music...very unique and special band! Atb!
I think you do get Pink Floyd, this is why your reactions are emotional. You say you don’t know why you’re feeling this way and that you feel silly. It’s not silly at all. They are masters at setting moods, and pulling up feelings and sending you back to memories that you hadn’t thought of in decades. So yes, you definitely get them.
Don’t feel bad about feeling strange the are perhaps the only band that evokes so many different emotions and they sing about uncomfortable emotiond and life. I know people who would listen and it was too deep for them. This band is unique and cerebral and somatic. They are touching your soul like no band has ever. The fact you can’t articulate what you experiencing is because it is a non verbal communication which goes way beyond words. But when they do use lyrics they profoundly make you feel and think differently about your being. They seem to awaken me from a trancelike state and i am present, locked in and mindful and all sense of time seems to stand still while the music takes you places you’ve never been. You must listen to the entire Dark Side Of The Moon if you haven’t. An extreme masterpiece. Love ❤️ 💗 💕 you both

Dark Side of the Moon was the first album that I bought when it came out when I was a teenager. 50 years later, it still grabs me and will not let go. The words as well as the wordless still reach deep down into my soul and turns it upside down.

My 13 year old son absolutely loves Pink Floyd! We even went to see Roger Waters in San Francisco a few months ago. He loved it!! He feels the music in the same way so don’t feel weird about it. You are absolutely correct that a certain level of maturity really helps in a full appreciation of their music, and it always was their intent to not just put on a good show, but to create an experience for the audience! In case you didn't know, for this concert series they added an additional rhythm guitarist, a second drummer (standing), and a second keyboardist/singer....this all really contributed to the fullness of sound of these concerts! Roger Waters was raised by a single, war widow, who was a teacher and always intentional about preparing her son for life, That's what this song is about, and his realization that unless you are very intentional, life will just happen to you regardless of when you choose to participate. AT 59 yrs old, I can tell you exactly where I was the first time I heard their music...very unique and special band! Atb!
I think you do get Pink Floyd, this is why your reactions are emotional. You say you don’t know why you’re feeling this way and that you feel silly. It’s not silly at all. They are masters at setting moods, and pulling up feelings and sending you back to memories that you hadn’t thought of in decades. So yes, you definitely get them.
Don’t feel bad about feeling strange the are perhaps the only band that evokes so many different emotions and they sing about uncomfortable emotiond and life. I know people who would listen and it was too deep for them. This band is unique and cerebral and somatic. They are touching your soul like no band has ever. The fact you can’t articulate what you experiencing is because it is a non verbal communication which goes way beyond words. But when they do use lyrics they profoundly make you feel and think differently about your being. They seem to awaken me from a trancelike state and i am present, locked in and mindful and all sense of time seems to stand still while the music takes you places you’ve never been. You must listen to the entire Dark Side Of The Moon if you haven’t. An extreme masterpiece. Love ❤️ 💗 💕 you both

I'm 65, I grew up with pink floyd, their music always seemed magical to me, the lyrics hit home many points of life itself, I'm glad you were touched by this small portion of that magic, by the way, the pulse tour was by far the best of pink floyd

Not to take away from the wonderful reaction, but there was an unfortunately hilarious transcription error on the captions right at the end there. Anyway love how much you two are getting into these songs. Great reactions. Their music is equal parts unsettling and inspiring. Not many (if any) can pull that off.
It's obvious that you both have a growing appreciation for Pink Floyd's music. I believe you will appreciate it even more if you react to the entire "Wish You Were Here" album in sequence, perhaps recording a video for each track. It truly is a masterpiece, start to finish.
