This review may be 2 years old, but it is as relevant today as it was when first posted. Thank you Dr. Sanders, as it provides not only great insights into the world of Uebel clarinets, but shows how Uebel instruments are able to compete in today's market. I recently purchased an Uebel Superior plateau, and this instrument compares very favorably to my set of Buffet Festivals. The difference for me is that I now have an instrument that will make playing a bit easier due to hand problems, and one that is a quality build with precision keywork. Yes, there are differences in the key placement compared to Buffet, but after getting used to this instrument, I expect to use it on many occasions...

Due to hand problems, I recently ordered the Uebel Superior Plateau model clarinet. Looking forward to getting it this next week. Hopefully, Uebel will offer the same plateau model for A clarinet in the future. It will be interesting to compare to my current set of Buffet Festivals...

Uebel Is happening. The Advantage was my favorite. Until you played "Rhapsody".

I found this on a search and am glad I bumped into it.
I had a hard time hearing a sound difference between the Advantge and the Superior in these short term tests. Did you hear a difference as the player?
    How was the resistance profile?
Wonderful sound on all 3 clarinets.

    Lovely Brahms sound
I briefly played a Uebel basset horn but it was quite sharp for the UK. But I think these new instruments I’ll search up for the USA and UK markets. They offer and alternative dale sound From the big three! Love your channel keep up the good work - God bless you - Bill - UK

I very much enjoyed your review. And you played beautifully! The lack of ring on the bell is unusual? Is there a downside to it? I imagine not.

It's not very unusual these days. The benefit is that there's no moving ring as the wood changes from season to season.

Both instruments had a beautiful, lush, warm tone! As you were playing did you detect a difference in the tone between the 2 instruments? I went to their website and saw that they also make an ABS entry level clarinet, but it is expensive for a first instrument. Did you play the Evolution mpc, ? Your comment went by quickly. I subscribe to your channel and have been a long time member of ICA.

They were pretty close in tone quality, but the Superior felt better. And yes, I played the Evolution mouthpiece. Thank you for your support!!

@@cleverclarinetist I play on the Reserve X5 (1.05 mm) medium long facing A=441. Is there much of a difference in response and articulation between the X5 and the Evolution with only .03 difference in tip opening? The X5 has a nice"ping" but is a little stuffy.

@@DocCSE That's a great question! There is a slight difference. I recommend that you check out my video where I demo all the D'Addario Mouthpieces.

Felt the tone of the two. Uebel clarinets was thinner and with less fullness throughout the range than her Selmer Presence model

I am curious as to the tuning of the first line “e” and its 12th, and the first space “f” and its 12th. I tried a Hammerschmidt Boehm some years back, and those 12ths were perfect.

I would like you to tell us how much of a step up the step up instrument was in your opinion.
If you never became a professional Clairnet played, would you out grow the step up?

    • @cleverclarinetist
      @cleverclarinetist  Před 3 lety +1

Hi Kenneth! Honestly, the Advantage clarinet is an entry-level professional clarinet, and an amateur would never “outgrow” it. Clarinets do have an expected lifespan (I think it’s about 15,000 hours of play or 10 years), but it could last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.
