Budget Wheel Idea for YETI Orca RTIC Type Coolers using Harbor Freight Wagon

- I am sure there will be additional ideas, this was just a quick and easy video for the cooler project. A DYI, How-To Style Wheel kit. You can use threadlock on the bolts, you can use whatever you have around the garage. The red wagon part was too small, but still at the end I had some use for it. I put this together pretty quickly and easily before a camping trip and it worked out perfectly. Yes, it elevated it a bit but it's okay. Better than breaking the back. Will be put to good use during the summer for sure.
Budget Wheel Idea for Cools, Cooler Cart
Harbor Freight Bigfoot Panel Wagon ($52 after coupon)
$5 for the slip adhesive mats optional.
I had a ton of other stuff available in the garage like....
Straps likely under $10
Nut and bolt assembly from Harbor Freight around $4-6
Wood maybe less than $8.00
Optional Strap Hangers from Amazon
Killz for the Plywood.
Good luck and I hope it helps someone else when lugging around a 75QT ice chest.
Well done! Need to make a "as you can see" drinking game with this video 😁
hey Rob, just popping in to say thank you. I built one of these for a double insulated cooler from Walmart, with an interior light and a basket and all, fits my needs, but didnt have wheels. great idea for diy-ers. got it done man, thank you.
PS add the link for the strap hangers to your description!
You could drill holes in the base to line up with the feet on the cooler and set it in the holes to center it on the cart.
Genius. I have that cart. My Yeti 65 fits in the wood rails but sits on top off the red wagon part. I'm definitely building this. 👍
Simple and elegant solution. Been looking for a way to take my igloo marine ultra 50 plus chairs, umbrella, bags, maybe a tube or two from my truck to the beach in one trip. Thought about just buying the wheels but I will have to check out the cart. Thanks.
i use a collapsible wagon! i drop my yeti 75 fits perfect! it moves around great.
We have a collapsible wagon at home! We are camping as I type this . . . and struggling with moving our Igloo Sportsman around. Will check our wagon once we get home (it's in the attic!) - you may have solved all our problems! Thank you for sharing!
Great idea, I have a red wagon kit coming, thank you for details
Nice vid i think doing a lil tweeks makes it even better
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing!
Pretty damn good job man. I need to make one for my RTIC cooler.
Thanks for video, I am considering options for my 75q and I have a 55. Maybe make a lower slung design for rear but then figuring out how to steer it is an issue. This design you did steers great just a bit top heavy looks like. Since I have a little mig welder I have more options but I like how the wagon has nearly everything you need!
I thought you weren't going to be long winded! But great job 👍
This is so dope man! I've been contemplating doing something along these lines...Thanks for posting!
This is GENIUS
Muy Buena idea gea
Good ideas...thanks!!
Thanks for the information.
Brother your a genius
Rob, If you watch any of my videos you know I love this kind of thinking! However, to greatly improve your idea, you should have used different Harbor Freight Wagon. The suspension under the Steel Deck Garden Wagon is so much better and only about $20.00 more. To see what I'm talking about see my Children's Wagon Videos - -

Bigfoot Panel Wagon Suspension Modification, Part 1 Front Suspension - Harbor Freight Wagons czcams.com/video/Ie9_eC6XJ3M/video.html
The parts of the Bigfoot Panel Wagon that you used are the Parts I am throwing away on my Wagon. Be careful your Cooler may tip over if you make a tight turn!
Thanks for some great ideas! You're making me thirsty - Stiles
Ok, I'm sold.
You could have put a “lip” or “railing” around the wooden base, to hold the cooler, and skip the tie downs.
Good job, but you should have reversed the cooler so that the drain plug was on the opposite side. That would make it much easier for you
Great video, I might do the same.
Brilliant!

Been trying to design my own wheel kit for my cooler with wood, wheels and metal hardware, but wow! This is such a great idea! Woulda spent just as much, if not more, and this solves the steering problem nicely with strong metal components (a feature many pricey retail kits lack for 4 wheel designs). Also, this is perhaps the only instance where it's nice that a product (the wagon) comes UNassembled.
My one concern with yours is top-heaviness. In my design, I had the platform sitting down just above the axles, which lowers the center of gravity by about 4 inches. You instead have the platform on top, completely clearing the wheels, which is taller. Do you have any comments on how this rig has performed on stability, fully loaded?
Tim, great points. I’ve used this on several terrains, no issues. Last 4th of July down a bumpy rocky road to a house, no issues. I would say that you’ll need to keep an eye on the top heaviness but it’s not much a concern as you’re describing. I’ve been happy with it and get asked about it a lot.
rough terrain up a hill, no concerns for me. Could have more stability for reassurance, but I have been happy with it. Thanks...
Freaking genius
Should have just bought a gorilla cart $100! And those things are crazy strong!! I’m a buy one for my 65 but also to use around the house lol
Could you bolt the wheels directly on the cooler? Stainless bolts with rubber washers on the inside to waterproof and lock nuts on the outside to prevent loosening and over tightening on the cooler insulation? This way no board, no strap.
Not a bad idea at all. When I made this I didn't think about that. Still working today as expected, no issues. I might consider your suggestion. Been sitting a while not used lately...
@@robwilliams8138 I don’t know why more companies don’t make a cooler with 4 wheels. The two wheels are ok for a short distance but with a heavy cooler, still a pain. There’s is a 4 wheel cooler with retractable wheels but they’re smaller than yours, plus they can’t turn. You’ve got a good idea. Multi use cart.
You mad genius you.
Nice... Why not just use a fold up wagon?
Hey rob can you add the link for the Metal hangers? Can’t seem to find them on amazon, thanks!!!!
Art Amezcua sure thing....here you go. Schmidt-Riffer Metalcrafts Yeti Cooler lock bracket made of Stainless Steel www.amazon.com/dp/B072MFXGQH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tUsADb68D03E8
Rob Williams thanks!!!!!
You could have just cut the top lip off of the red wagon and used it like that instead of using the plywood
I cannot find those strap hanger anywhere
COOLOCK 2 Pack Cooler Lock Bracket with Bottle Opener - Compatible with Yeti/RTIC Coolers - Heavy Duty Lock Brackets for Coolers Tie Down Accessories - Stainless Steel Construction/Large Diamond Hole… a.co/d/fQAKK4W
Or search "Coolock 2 Pack Cooler Lock Bracket" it was called something else 3 years ago.
Where did you get those little metal brackets the straps connect to
Dennis, referring to this? www.amazon.com/dp/B072MFXGQH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tUsADb68D03E8
They sell a plastic dolly at HF holds 200lb
I like that idea, thought about that too for a smaller cooler. Since this is a 75QT, I wanted the all terrain tires on it to be able to roll in the grass. The dolly is a bit smaller tires I believe. However, it might work well with the smaller coolers. Good idea.
Any idea how the wheels hold up in sand?
Rick Y. Sorry, haven’t been to the beach with it. I’d give it a shot but I don’t think it will will hold up very well, my 2 cents....
Rob Williams it’s all good. Was just wondering. I think what you have is plenty most of the time. All good. I like your style! I’ve been looking at “beach carts” but man oh man are they expensive.
As you can see
Ha, ha.... original.
You
Ha e you used that on sand
I have not. Honestly I would be reluctant because the base is small and could be top heavy. Just my thought.
This video is way too long. J/k. ✌🏽👍🏽👍🏽
