Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-rich, party-based RPG set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, where your choices shape a tale of fellowship and betrayal, survival and sacrifice, and the lure of absolute power.
-------------------------- - Hry
Karlach is just the best and as a mindflayer she can finally finish her own grand design. Sending the most foul swear words into everyones minds directly.
Karlach is dead. That thing is not Karlach. It is a mind flayer that inherited her memories and name. Devouring her from the inside out, and carrying on a legacy of destruction wearing the guys of one once known as Karlach. A dark and twisted ending, no matter how you see it.
@@gabrielcaro It's purely depends on how important is the soul in this world, is it embodies essence of the person, his character, feelngs everything that he is or is it just exists for some reason, maybe it is exists just for gods, so they can feed upon the people's faith and punish them if they do not, like placing their souls in to the wall of the dead.
@@gabrielcaroAnd that is not for long, sooner or later she will lose all of her memories and personality, where a new one will begin to form, the only thing remaining is going to be her name. Orpheus even says so in the end if he becomes the mind flayer. This is by far the worst ending for her, i dont know why people say this is the "best ending" for karlach.
@@gabrielcaroit really speaks to why its no easy choice as to who should be the mindflayer in the ending. Ironically, the Emperor is one of the better choices because he already was a mindflayer and, more importantly, he resisted the Elder Brain for so long and countered its actions until the bitter end IF you free Orpheus. More importantly, Withers seems to count the Emperor as a valid ally, just as he does with the other mindflayer choices. In a way, and while it may cost the Githyanki a chance of freedom from Vlaakith, siding with the Emperor is like giving him one last chance to "be Balduran again". With the other characters, if they become mindflayers, they start changing (as with Karlach or Tav) or the seek suicide (Orpheus)
I don’t get how anyone thinks that Karlach dying and spawning a creepy squid husk that impersonates her is better then her going to hell at max level and becoming the fuckin Doom-slayer and spending all her time killing shit and smoking cigars with her friends
Karlach didn't offer it in my run, but you can fix this by telling Orpheus you need more time and then talk to him while having Karlach selected and the same cutscene plays out (minus Karlach volunteering).
I heard this bugs out your game and npcs think the main character went illithid, haven’t tried myself yet
Just found the solution: if karlach says something to the emperor about her willing to turn and then choose the “I’m not becoming a mind flayer” when talking to Orpheus she should volunteer.
She won’t say anything if you ask him to turn, or are willing to do it yourself
In my head canon turning her to a mind flayer is the best solution because it buys us time to find her a Wish spell and fix her properly. Gale should have the proper connections with Elminster to get it done.
She doesn't need fixing
@@Aggrofool The fuck are you talking about lol of course she does. Her heart is *literally* killing her.
@@AggrofoolShe literally has a timebomb in her chest
Wish spells can’t restore a persons soul, and she loses that when she becomes a flayer so that’s where she dies
@@sirpiss1708 Withers says you still have a soul if you become a Mindflayer yeah? Maybe shes the same
Safe to say that with the newly added epilogues that mind flayer Orpheus is the better option here. Seeing Ilithid Karlach take a job in Hospice care so she can experience all the things that she never got in her life through dying patients is about the most humane way for her to feed but it’s still sad as hell.
It’s ridiculous that you can’t turn laezel into one. SHE demands her princes freedom over ANYTHING, so she should at least offer it?? Why do I have to sacrifice myself for the gith? Doesn’t make sense
Exactly tells you alot about the gith. Under the prince maybe they’ll be more worse. Its a 50-50 chance.
I feel like out of there two. It’s either you or Orpheus I just feel god-awful, turning karlach into one.
Even though it is incredibly sad and hard to watch, this is actually a good ending for Karlach, in a way. She deserves to forever be honored as a hero. She was dealt such a shitty hand, and at least this way, she isn't forced to continue to be a slave to Zariel. Her being the only party member to offer makes it feel canon in a way.
Nah this ending sucks, she dies when she becomes a mind flayer and you can hear in her voice that she isn’t the same, anyways in the other ending she fights through hell and gets revenge on a Zariel and that’s so much cooler
@sirpiss1708 Yeah, I know. This comment was made before Larian added the option of you returning to the Hells with her, so at that point, it was either let her be a mindflayer or let her burn.
@@LadyAmalthea0615 oh shit really??? I straight up had no idea that was ever the case, yea that sucks but even still both deaths look extremely painful so at least in the burning ending she gets to die while being herself and being surrounded by all her friends in the city she loves
fellas, would you still love her if she was a worm?
Honestly, all we need is a scroll of Reincarnation or True Resurrection and Karlach is good as new
Wouldnt she still have a engine although itd be burnt out so she technically wouldnt have a heart? Youd be rezzing her for her just to immediatly die x,x lmao
@@gregjross852 remove it before you rez her sillybuns
@@SylvanasWindrunnerResurrected Yeah good job, now she doesn't have any heart at all.
@@Bessux True res has the ability to make an entirely new body, organs and all if the original is missing, pretty sure giving her back her normal heart is childs play for a spell like that
@@GrayNotGrey_ yeah but you gotta be level 15 or higher for that spell I'm pretty sure. Maybe it will be in the DLC!
This is actually the ending I had with her: The only fix I found for her breaking heart is turning her into a Mindflayer!
Yeah it's really unfair that she has only sad endings
Apparently there was an upper city that got cut from the game and the fix for her engine is there
@@user-mu8ok5xf8d What's awesome is apparently Larian is going to work on getting her a better ending soon :D
@@arkovi3643 yeah I’m exited to do so. I may do her romance again with a wizard run when it comes out
Whoever becomes a mindflayer technically dies in the Astral Plane. Withers said mindflayers have no soul.
And immediately clarifies he means apostolic souls (as in souls gods can interact with).
I swear it's like everyones brain shuts off after that firsg sentence.
He's a god. He can not interact with or see souls that are inaccessible to him.
That does not mean other, more alien souls can't exist.
Mindflayers have canonically been shown in afterlives AND can become petitioners.
Both require souls.
Technically Avernus is a plane of the Afterlife and you and your party go there, lol. The devil from the Shar temple can be killed and found in Avernus again. The mindflayers literally travel to Avernus in the prologue. Techinically the Astral Plane is the afterlife, but Material Plane beings can go to the Astral Plane. So unless the literature explicitly states mindlflayers do have souls, according to explicit sources they dont @@goji253
@@Abp.Mars-Assembly Did you ignore the part about petitioners deliberately so you could make your argument seem more credible, or is it your reading comprehension that is lacking?
If you want concrete sources, take a look at the Illithiad page 40-41 and Player's Guide to Faerun p. 148.
Hell, even the wiki states that the belief that Illithids do not have souls is in fact wrong.
It's not even hard to look this stuff up quickly.
Obviously they retconned it in the game because its stated so many times in the game that they are souless. Withers states it 3 times. Including the end scene. And the topic is about the game. You obviously didnt play the game and just joined the comments without even considering the context mentioned@@goji253
@@Abp.Mars-Assembly It's a bit weak and not to mention childish to pretend I don't know the game instead of actually arguing properly isn't it?
The game is very much still part of the larger Forgotten Realms canon whether you like it or not. Said canon confirms the existence of illithid souls. And unless you try *really* hard to take Wither's statements out of context, the game doesn't contradict this either.
Ah, my beautiful squid wife 🥰
From what I understand Karlach dies in either event, only that turning into a mind flayer also destroys her soul. The more powerful individuals, such as Balduran, get to have their personalities imprinted on the new mind flayer but it's an illusion, the mind flayer is a new entity.
So no matter how you take it, the ending is sh1tty: the worst is to destroy Orpheus, because he is the only one who can fight the Illithid Grand Design, the second worst is having one of your team destroyed in both body and soul.
I'm unsure if you can prevent all this by using Gale to end the Netherbrain or if Mystra can restore his soul should he become a mind flayer.
Going along with Illithid Balduran, The Emperor, will only delay the inevitable when Orpheus is destroyed because other Elder Brains will wreak havoc on the planes.
wait there are more elder brains ?
@MUSIC3787 all illithids follow elder brains. But this is the only netherbrain.
This is why no matter the ending, it is always a tough choice. There is no purely good ending (I like it)
I had the same party of Tav, Laezel, Karlach, and Gale, and following the thread of conversation EXACTLY as in the video worked for me.
Before finding this video,. I tried 5 or so different conversation paths and in none did Karlach volunteer. Tried skipping emperror asap, tried talking to him; sometimes she would volunteer sometimes not; tried leaving laezel out of the conversation, but I couldn't get her to 'honor' her choice when talking with Orpheus no matter what I did, even if she agreed in private. Strange that it seems you have to do it in some specific order.
Does your Karlach have questline completed and max approval? because i dunno why mine dont do this
Well, it is closest to her wish, from what i understand: She keeps saying she wants to live and wants to stay.
Going to heel doesn't grant her that wish really?
This doesn't work for me.
After asking for somebody to become a mindflayer, there is no cut scene. The only options are:
1. You are a true hero.
2. Keep your soul- I will make the sacrifice.
It doesn't matter which character I start off this conversation, if I pick number two the only character that turns into a mindflayer is the one I made.
What worked for me was choosing, I don't want to be a mindflayer.
I got dialogue when Karlach transformed that hinted that she was still herself for the time being. I’m not big in DnD lore, but is it possible that since the tadpole in karlachs head was destroyed relatively quickly after she transformed, because we defeated the brain, that she truly is still herself and not a mind flayer that is using her memories to pretend to be her? I’ve seen discussion elsewhere that claims that mind flayers aren’t there host because the tadpole completely takes over their body and uses their memory, but mind flayer karlach doesn’t have a tadpole.
I think the best way to finish the game its sacrifice Gale , why you tell
1: mystra say the spell she put him its temporary soo one time or another he will explode
2: even if he acomplish and turn a new god he like Astarion turn another person
3 he turn a teacher in his final give the crown for mystra and maybe lost all your powers
Fuck that! I'd rather turn Gale into flayer and throw him at the Absolute with his orb bomb.
Is his bomb still active if he becomes an Illithid?
I didnt free Orpheus and spoke to the emperor karlach offered herself but how can i turn her into a mindflayer ?
I hate this part of the story. Really, everything would be made easier if the Emperor stayed. Why the fuck he had to leave???
This is basically just the tadpoles having Karlach‘s memories. Karlach is gone. I could never choose this ending.
Yea this is the objectively bad ending, Karlachs story is all about her being herself, Zariel stops her from being herself by making her unable to touch anyone else despite being a very cuddly person, and this ending does the same with the flayer (which is basically the exact opposite of a barbarian) and slowly losing her memories, her good ending is the one where she gets to live out her life killing monsters with her closest friend
I’m conflicted about this. I don’t want Karlach to die but I also want her to keep being the sweet kind person that she has always been. I don’t want her to change . Is there a happy ending you can get for her?
@@Lunakitty1234 you can have a happy ending for her! If you want there’s an option to return to Avernus with her at the end of the game, and in that ending she plans to steal a better version of the engine from Zariel and return to the overworld, unfortunately that happens offscreen and you never get to see her living a happy life but you still get to know that she is able to live as herself. Also when she becomes and mindflayer she basically stops being herself and turns into a pathological liar and manipulator
@@sirpiss1708 ok. I’m almost done with my first playthrough. I didn’t tell her to go to Avernus cuz I didn’t think she’d want to . She says throughout the entire game that she never wants to go back and I thought making her go back would be kinda mean. But I’ll go for it next time . Thanks
Sounds like what happens when you ascend Astarion. He returns to being all fake and starts being abusive to Tav.
@@Lunakitty1234 yea well I think it’s really at the end of the game that she’s realised that Karlach would willing go back to hell if it meant staying with the mc and that’s really sweet, and she’s not their forever only a couple months. Plus you aren’t making her, it’s still her decision
karlach isnt offering this up in my run?
I'm pretty sure it depends whether you fixed her or not with Dammon?
Had me as well:
This is not the first encounter in act2 but much later when you obtained the Orphic Hammer
@@DoppelgangerTH In my playthrough I did fix her heart with dammon, but she still didn't offer in this scene
@@screaminjesusdid you do it twice. He fixes her two times and then you need to talk to him in the city so he can say he still can’t find a way to fix it
Hey how do you get back into the astral prism to save orpheus? Do I need to progress the main story?
yes
This is literally the last mission in the game, after this is the last sequence of combat and you cannot play anymore
So no other party member can become a mindflayer then?
I think you need to control them when talking to Orpheus.
Where in baldur's gate city starts Lai'zel personal quest about prince?
that is the most hideous character ive ever seen xD
I had kalach in my party and chose the same dialog choices, but she never offered to become the mindflayer
Same. She only offers if I don't free Orpheus... annoying...
Oh wait... the dialog option was actually incorrect in this video.
@@michaelvanniekerk2104ah that would explain it, I freed orpheus.
That almost seems like a bug to me, it doesn't make any sense that she would offer to become a mindflayer when talking to the emporer but not when it's orpheus.
@@michaelvanniekerk2104 Yep it should be - I will do it
Is it possible to convince Orpheus to become a mind flayer without Karlach saying anything?
anyone else saw that normal Karlach after she transformed? xD
mind flayers can make themselves look something else duh
Can you make a different party member a mind flayer like wyll
My question as well since I personally don't like or use him and it would so piss off Mizora.
I think yes but before that you need to convince them that its ok to become a mindflayer (but not 100% sure)
i brought her to the end game to do this and she's not fucking intervening and saying she'll do it. god this game pisses me off sometimes
Just have her talk to Orpheus instead.
I think I understand why githyanki are so revolted by the thought of becoming a mindflayer. Mindflayers enslaved their entire race, so for a githyanki to become ilithid would be like a Jew being transformed into Hitler
Why cant i turn Gale into a mindflayer? Why cant it ever be Gale?! WHY??!!!
I wanna turn Astarion into a mindflayer!
@@timetochronicleAstarion doesn’t want to. If you try to give him the astral tadpole earlier in the game he tells you no and explains his vampire transformation was very painful and he doesn’t want to feel like that again. You can force him to do it anyway but it is clearly evil to do to him, especially if you’re his partner. I haven’t done this myself, I can’t bring myself to be mean to him, I’ve just seen videos .
Is this the first time you encounter Orpheus?
No
