    Remember when we lay there, on the brink of defeat facing Emet, our friends broken and battered? Ardbert, alone with us in our mind, asking us if we thought we thought we could fight if we had the strength to rise again? Then he lowers his axe to us, and the Shadowbringers theme breaks the silence as we are rejoined with Ardbert, ready to face down a living legend that was a threat to the existence of the star? And the chills that came with that first strum? The feeling invoked by this moment in Dawntrail was the direct, polar opposite of that moment.

      That's because unlike dawntrail we are given a new hope in a hopeless situation where the lyrics of shadowbringers theme starts to make sense as its a do or die situation with a character we grew to love and even though was LITERALLY TIED TO US AND WATCHING US EVERY SINGLE TIME, had the respect to not be nagging us all the time. Realizes to save what's left of his world and home and save yours gives himself up to rejoin with you and possibly have the power to stop Emet's plan in a heartfelt moment of light surrounded by the darkness of your friends on the brink of dying and you are the only one left to currently stop him.
      Meanwhile dawntrail has a bad Disney song that plays when you have a build a bomb montage with a childish story without any build up for this "payoff" to work

    • @miriamweller812
      @miriamweller812 Před 20 dny +1

      No, don't remember.
      I remember that Emet Selch fought and lost for no reason while none of the Scions (as usual) even got a scar from it.
      And all this with ZERO idea of any of the what is actually going on nor ANY plan what the should even do. It's simply just "lol, we got plot armor, we can't die anyway, lol".
      This is actually better - because it is more honest. It's now really just 100% war propaganda as it has been since SB, including the stupid music to it.
      And whenever did anyone face down Hydaelyn Venat or its mindless executioner and his crazy terror buddies? Never see that happen. You know, that thing that slaughtered the whole planet, ripped it apart including all life on it, disorted that life to torture it for 10.000 years with the absurd idea to create one super soldier out of it to kill that bird thing, what could have EASILY been killed by the original life without ANY problem and what in the end did not really work out at all anyway, because, let's be real, Zenos killed it. WoL could have doen shit, standing there, shitting his or her pants - what was by that way ANOTHER time (and not even the second but the x-th time) where they just ran in without any clue, without any plan, all just "lol, we got plot armor anyway, we can't die, we can't lose, let's just piss against a wall, that should do the trick."
      The only threat to the existence of the start were:
      a) Venat by ripping it apart.
      b) WoL and Scions by fighting for Venat against those who want to undo this and heal the planet (what is by the way the MAIN SOURCE of power of the WoL, since it was the Ascians who had saved the majority of shards by reuniting them with the source and by that also made it possible for the WoL to have a far less fractured soul. - What by the way must have been the plan of Venat, because that time travel bullshit was used as a reason for her idea, so not only was the plan to fracture the planet and all life into 14 pieces, but also that the majority of those pieces must die and be reunited with the source again for this f**** up shit to work out (what makes no sense anyway, because the WoL never got any idea of what is going on and is just killing what they are pointed at after some nodding and how should they even know before, that they would win?)
      Zodiark was the one who had protected all this the whole time, was never Venat, without Zodiark the distorted live would just have died instantly.
      The remaning shards will just die, the First was never saved, since it's still burned to the ground, with catboy, with the worst kind of time travel writing ever, sacrificed the source (what is suddenly possible to create addfitional timelines, even though Alexander was all about that this is not possible and time travel simlpy making everything worse), didn't even care to at least go far enough back to stop the collapse at all.
      Now you got a dead planet that will collapse sooner or later anyway, since it was shit enough to die like that befoer and now it's just 100000 times worse but simply without the souls being saved by returning to the Source and on top of that the 13th stays ruined, too (and that after it was made clear, that this was never some evil plan of the remaining Ancients, but simply their first try to save all life and go against Venat's insanity, but life was so utterly ruined and distorted by her, that it wasn't possible like that).
      FF14 COULD have been an in intersting story, if it would have taken all this, make you the stupid bad guy who blindly follows a mega fascsits, but then turns around, works together with Garlemald and the Ascians to find a solution to stop ultra slaughter death god Venat and save the planet, maybe by finding better way to reuinte them or balance it out somehow (it's not like the Ascians never tried, it never worked otherwise, because thanks to blind fanatics like WoL and Scions, it was always about mass murder and war against the idea to heal the planet, so the only way left was to use this ).

    • @ElderGamerX
      @ElderGamerX Před 20 dny +11

      @@miriamweller812 This argument makes a lot of sense, if you ignore the part about how Zodiark tempered the ascians, forced them to rejoin the worlds no matter the cost in order to put himself back together (the "why" you seemed to be missing as to why we fought Emet in the first place), and the part about how Zodiark would require more sacrifices over time in order to sustain himself, thus ultimately destroying the people he was created to save.
      Venat sundering everyone ended up being the only reason anyone was saved, because it was dynamis (not aether) that could stop the Endsinger, and a complete ancient was too aetherically powerful to control dynamis. Also Venat sundering the world actively stopped more people from sacrificing themselves to Zodiark, an act that would have further contributed to the self-inflicted doom of the world. It also bought them time, because a sundered Zodiark still managed to hold back the Endsinger, while also not being able to temper anyone else or demand any more souls. Now, if you want to take credit away from Venat, because she had no way of knowing that sundering everyone would help stop an enemy they didn't understand yet, that's valid. She definitely lucked into a solution with her stall tactic. But it doesn't change the fact that her actions were the only thing that saved the source, and that the Garleans and Ascians were simply tools for Zodiark's resurrection, rather than the solution to any problem.
      All that said, I actually enjoyed getting in thought exercises with people in my FC about how it would have been better if we could have sided with Emet and helped him rejoin the source, and playing devil's advocate. Argue that the ancients were superior to the broken people of the current source. And how it would have been more satisfying to stand with Emet and Elidibus, at the end of days, fully rejoined, and help them change their fate. And I think in a single player game, it would have been a really cool "bad end" storyline to explore. But at the end of the day, the magic the ancients controlled so well was also the very reason they couldn't stop the calamity, and the rejoined Azem would have simply died with their friends against a foe they couldn't beat.
      Ultimately, I agree that it's not a perfect story. And if someone is cynical enough, they can ruin anything. But there is enough of a foundation there for it to be a cool moment, if you decide to engage with it and give it the benefit of the doubt.

      Game is shit like this since SB. It just got worse and worse and worse. With this extrem, even the most blind and stupid see it, but even that won't change much.
      Remember SB, when you fight for whatever reason for the return of a pretty disgusting monarchy and mass murder who knows how many thousand civilians by flodding the civilian section of the castle? All with some funk music, because, yeah, war crimes for tyrannic monarchist! Awesome!
      Hell, that place's main problem were the former monarchists keep on fighting, hiding behind civilians! Another war crime. Then the WoL and (even worse) the Scions come in - by the way for the SOLE REASON to abuse this for a distraction, that was the plan, to create havoc in another country, so Garlemald would send their army there to crush it, what they wanted to exploit (another and even more disgusting warcrime) - all just gets way worse.
      Oh, and what did the former prince and new king do after this? While Garlemald is kind enough to overlook this whole insanity (including summons of more primals = beings which could easily destroy the planet by brainwashing millions and endlessly growing in power) and NOT crash down on it)? Right, he pulls them right back into war.
      And don't forget, how he abuses the tribes people in the north for all this, who got NOTHING to do with it and if Garmelad would be an evil empire would simply cease to exist, since they would wiped out. Another war crime.
      War crime after war crime after war crime and all fot what? Greed.
      Ala Migho's mainproblen weren't the Garleans, but thos 'resistence' guys. If they woul have helped the people instead of attacking GUARDS(!) (what is the very thing you do for them, backstabbing people who secure the roads), Ala Migho would simply be a peaceful, prospering counry, which could really need the trade and technology, being mainly rock desert.
      Don't forget what the first thing is we do after all this: we sell them out to a bunch of oligarchs, so they can now work as slaves in a salt mine... yay!
      The game is shit like that for a VERY long time. People simply don't get it, because the story just tells you, that all of this is fine. It's like watching a war propagand movie - a german one from 1940. "Be a good soldier, always follow orders, never ask questions, the enemy is evil, no matter what, we are good, no matter what, so nod and kill."

      The Solution 9 music is literally an instrumental version of this song. And I love the Solution 9 music. So the compositional basis of the song, the chords, rhythms and melodies that make it up, is great. What makes Smile awful is the vocal performance, the out of place musical style, and the fatuous lyrics.

  • @WolvenWeaver
    @WolvenWeaver Před 20 dny

    I still don't understand what they were thinking here.
    Like, the music is upbeat and triumphant, so my best guess is that they thought this was some victorious moment where many different people's came together to work for a singular goal. Kinda like how all the beast tribes worked with the Sharlayans, summoning their Eikon's to send the WoL and Scions to Ultima Thul. Except, this nation has been racially and culturally integrated for like half a century at that point. Different people's working together, is the norm here. So it's not triumphant at all, and nobody playing would take it as such.
    So yeah, I've got no idea. That was my best guess, and it absolutely doesn't work here.

    Imagine having to listen to any of the epic songs we got in the past on multiple times and they werent about your stuff but celebrating someone else on repeat. Like if we were just helping idk Y'shtola the WOL saving the world and Song of Hope motif was literally her theme, how would that feel I wonder? Same feelings come in here. It's not related to us, only by a distance, we carry the story like a WoW character, we are there cuz "we deserve to be there" and its infuriating . So there is no way majority of enjoyers gona like this song. The theme of friendship was so abused it made me root for Zoraal Ja after he shown up with Star Destroyers
