My favorite for crystal clear water is ozone. Ozone combines the benefits of active carbon and UVC lights. But you need to handle it with caution

Yes ozone is great! But as you say, it needs to be used very carefully

1 advice, use potassium permanganate solution, dosage 1gm/1000 litres every week, been using for last 6 months myself works like magic makes the fishes super active nd hungry...

Hi Chris , your aquarium and goldfish are looking fantastic as per usual. I agree with you regarding alfa grog . I have read studies that cite its ability to hold vast amounts of bacteria. I wonder what is your take on under gravel filters ? 😊

I personally am not a huge fan of under gravel, due to the difficulties cleaning them. Leaving dirt and detritus to break down over long periods in an aquarium feels wrong to me, unfortunately.

I understand what you mean. I like the sump idea the best.
UGF are difficult to clean. Some fish owners never clean them ever and seem to have success from what they tell us. But I prefer the look of your aquarium.😊

@@AquaticElements they are not meant to be cleaned in a regular basis l. the detritus is broken down to inert beneficial stuff. Research was done and shown that they compare closest to canister filters. Aquarium science has a breakdown and stats in this. Yes sump is the best. But canisters and UGF are next best. I think people don’t understand how they work most info on them are inaccurate

I've got 4x Fancy gold fish in a 180L tank, Fluval 207 canister filter, regularly change out the polishing pads and carbon at least once a month as well as change out water twice a week. Water is always crystal clear. Not rocket science lol. Cannot comment on larger tanks.
