Acrylic pouring: Fluid art
My pouring medium used for my current work is a pre mix of 70% âMont marte clear craft glue and 30% warm water, (most pva glues can be made up with same ratios to make a pouring medium), I add my pouring medium to my paint slowly until I achieve the consistency of pouring cream, approximately 50/50 more pm if needed.
My paint brands mostly used are the Mont marte studio acrylics, dimensions, or pouring paints, Boom Gel stain.
When iv mixed my paints I add 2-4 drops maximum of Helmar silicone, also Australian made, I stir in well.
I always like to mix up my paints and add silicone the day before Iâm going to paint, and cover with a damp cloth, as I have found I have much better results.

You experiments help save me a lot of paint and also to know what to buy for pouring mediums. Your humor and honesty is so very rare. Also you take the stress from me by you just being you. I have already got my Mont marte paint and waiting for the clear glue to get here and then I'm going to do my first swipe. I'm really excited to get started. I also have shared your videos to my friends and to myself so I'm sitting on ready. Thank you my friend for all you do. I really hope you read this so you will know just how much you are truly appreciated.
Donna Jowers thank you for your wonderful message, appreciate đ„°đ„°
Can't tell you how many videos I've watched testing silicone verses none. For some reason, after watching yours, I decided to test it. I had 3 canvasses I wanted to paint over. So I did all without any silicone. I got cells like I've never gotten before! And all the new paintings came out great! Thanks for doing this. :)
PS Gilly, just some history about this technique you probably already know, but what the heck here it is anyway. When artist David Alfaro Siqueiros first discovered his âaccidental paintingâ technique in the 1930s, the simplicity of the process coupled with its elaborate results riveted him. Siqueiros simply poured different colour paints onto a wooden panel, allowing the different colours to spread, coalesce, and infiltrate one another.
Black paint, for instance, tends to be less dense than white paint. Consequently, Zenit and Zetina found that pouring white paint onto black paint would lead to the desired mixing. Black on white, however, would not. One of Siqueiros's student in his experimental lab in New York was Jackson Pollock. Siqueiros was experimenting with the new paints, acrylic. Otto Röhm invented acrylic resin, which was quickly transformed into acrylic paint. As early as 1934, the first usable acrylic resin dispersion was developed by German chemical company BASF, which was patented by Rohm and Haas. The synthetic paint was first used in the 1940s, combining some of the properties of oil and watercolor.PPS: Try and find MelyD.artist she never uses silicon, however she places the paint on the canvas then moves it very fast..time lapse camera shows the cells formulating as you watch them....There is also an another artist in Canada Elysia fortu( oh I cannot spell her name, but she also does not use silicon to the best of by knowledge.
Deborah Gallo thank you so interesting đ€ i must look up further to understand more đđ
Fantastic, loved the end results. You never know what will happen when you experiment. Having fun and its only paint is a great way to do your artwork. Thank you for sharing your time, your character and your true talent,
You are a wonderful teacher! And I find your voice to be so soothing - could watch your videos all day! Thanks so much for continuing to teach and help me expand my art journey! đ Going to have to try a Gilly swipe after pre-mixing paints 24 hours in advance!
I so appreciate your honesty! When you try a technique that another artist used, you always give them credit. Not all artists do that. You are so creative and have such a lovely positive attitude. I've learned so much from watching your videos! So tragic about the fires in your beautiful country. Praying for your continued safety and that the fires will soon be out.
Dear Gilly, love your no nonsense approach to dealing with the people who ask or focus on the negative, the Nancys or nutters. Omg so spot on
Thank you for your candor, Gilly. Your sense of humor in addressing âtoolsâ was absolutely priceless ~ your art is stunning! Keep on painting my friend!!!

Gilly , I love how you speak your mind on the negative Nellies. Or what did you call them negative nanas. Lol!! For some reason for several days I didnât get notified you were doing any videos. Thanks for producing your channel. Very helpful resource for nontraditional painting techniques. Negative Nutters. Indeed. Clearly have no idea how dangerous it has always been to work with art materials. Lastly, I love the mix of Australia and England's Birmingham in your accent. Clearly as unique as you are.
Michelle Byrom thank you âșïž

Celena Aronson thank you đ appreciate
I've done experiments also and I discovered that when I use floetrol without adding silicone I get cells. I live in the US so it's inexpensive for me to use glue and water and if I want cells using glue and water I have to add the silicone. I'm so happy you're getting rain! Love from Texas!
So thatâs what Iâve been doing wrong... getting no cells using glue and water! Thank you so much đ
đ I absolutely love your humor and adore all your work wonderful videos and paint pours I never miss watching you Gilly your great!

Thank you for sharing about the heat gun and the torch. Iâm interested in the experiment too.
You make it look so easy
Sure is fun to watch đ
Thank you for showing us this experiment Julie. The two effects on the same painting could be great if you were creating a certain look. Ah ha!! Yes, like you just did with the round comb!
You produce such beautiful pieces of art, love watching your videos. The people that frown on silicone generally donât use it because theyâre too lazy to clean it off after the piece is dry!
That is so awesome!
Exquisite video I loved it! Thank you very much! â€ïž
Wow Gorgeous!!! đâ€ïžđđđđ§Ą
Lololol, I so enjoy watching you! A hair dryer used can also pose the same cord problem. Seeing your cup holder the first time I got out my cup cake/muffin tins to use and thereâs far less calories.
Great helpful video, for sure! I'm just literally studying this art before I even give it an attempt. I do rock art, and I wanted to try fluid pouring on that substrate. You're adorable, and I love watching you create your beautiful paintings with this art. TY!
Nancy Boline thank you đ
Hey, no more âNegative Nancyâ comments! Iâm the most Positive Prissy around, except when Iâm negative. Iâm also bat đŠ shit crazy!

I love your videos and instruction. I canât wait to try some of your techniques myself.
Thank you đ
Just brilliant. I can't wait to try doing your art. So much fun.
Go for it!
I'm sooo addicted to your videos!! I have a feeling I'm about to become an addict of this kind of painting too..diving into my very first one today!!
I love your artwork, absolutely love it and I appreciate the way you explain things and the reassurance you give to people. You make me feel like I can create beautiful art too. Pouring and swiping is new to me and I have yet to have a bash at it but you give me the confidence to try. Thank you
You are so welcome!
The tool that's using it đ€Łđ€Ł you make my day đ
Hi Gilly. Thanks for the experiment. The clear Mont Marte craft glue was not listed on the contact site you provided for the U.S. so I contacted Mont Marte and they did reply that this item is not offered at this time in the U.S. but hopefully in the future it will be. Just an FYI. Have a great day!
D and D Art Gallery oh no really, thatâs a bummer. The Elmerâs glue all is great to use in exactly the same way đ
Yes, I use that too. I think we can get clear Elmerâs glue here so I might try that. đ
Great experiment. Learning so much from you. You are my favorite artist...
Oh my that turned out beautiful, I love it them colours are popping đđ I actually think the paint with no silicone is beautiful when you do the swirls with the balloon đ
You never disappoint. Always giving us little rid bits of information and. Techniques thank you

Thank you very much Gilly, its was amazing to see experience. I am looking forwrd to do with silicone. Thank you
Thank you âșïž
Negative Nanasđ.....
I'm beyond relieved to hear about the rain. Every day, my heart goes out to those affectedđâđ§. Back to your video ~ This is really interesting. I don't use silicone but I do mix using Floetrol and cells do come up. I have tried silicone and yes, more cells are forthcoming. It's the residue that I find horrible but you say that Helmars' is minimal so might have to sneak a bottle into my next Amazon orderđ€đ. Beautiful results from your embellishing. Ty again for sharing and experimenting! CđđŸđŸ
