    Thank you for the video. For those who will buy this kind of 3 way toggle switch they must have multimeters. First of all check the switch to ensure what type it is on middle position before soldering the wires.
    2ndly when we buy 3 position switch ensure it is not on off on type although thry also have 6 legs.

    Thank you sooo much.
    Finally a simple explanation.

    Thank you for your video, addressing an aspect of toggle switches rarely found elsewhere. I'd like to respectfully point out that the video's title implies that the "ON-ON-ON" version of the three-position toggle is a "DPDT" type, but it is not. So, applying the name "DPDT" to these switches is incorrect. The proper name for the "ON-ON-ON" type is "SP3T." They use the same physical construction as a six-terminal DPDT toggle switch, but they function as a SP3T switch. This confusion sometimes arises because of the physical similarity of the two types.

      While you are technically correct (the best kind of correct) I think most people identify these switches as DPDT, because they have the same number of poles as a normal DPDT. It's less confusing that way.

    You may want to add that a "type 1" on on on switch is shown in your drawing on the right, and a "type 2" on on on switch is depicted in the left drawing. Type 2 on on on switches seem to be much more common.

      Yeah, I can't remember whether or not I said it in the video, but you need to check your switch with a multimeter to confirm which type you have. Most places you get switches from don't give you any indication of which connections are made in which positions.

    Do you know what brand the switch is? I have A very similar looking switch and it’s made by multicomp. I bought it for about £4 here in the U.K. It has a nice quality feel to it when you flick the switch

      I don't know the brand, feels good to me though.

      Adam I have my on-on-on switch wired up in a circuit at the Moment, and it’s working , but I think I am missing a wire . So it puzzles me why it’s working !? It may be that the switch is like as you described and functions slightly differently, so I’ve maybe got lucky

      @@ourclarioncall It's possible, yeah. But the main thing is that it's working :D

    Would being a Lateral or Inverting (type) have an identifiable marking/code? Or is that too easy?

    • @gasolinechlorine
      @gasolinechlorine  Před 6 lety +1

      They don't have any marks or codes that I know of. The only way to tell for sure is to test them for continuity with a multimeter.

    Hey man, thanks
    Great video!
    Just a quick question
    Do you know if there is a way to wire or modify a DPDT switch on/off/on in order to make it work like an on/on/on?

    • @gasolinechlorine
      @gasolinechlorine  Před 7 lety

      To my knowledge, no. Not without physically disassembling and reassembling the switch.
