    Great video! My 02 5.4L is doing the same thing and all fuses/relays are ok. One odd thing I wanted to ask about is I was assuming it was the fuel pump and no pressure at rail, then all of a sudden after checking every day for a week one day it started and ran fine up to full engine temp. When I turned it off and immediately tried to re-start, got the crank, NO start again. Just seems like a weird way for the pump to be intermittent. Any ideas guys? - update: yeah it was the pump of course :)

      The truck from this video was intermittent as well. I would try to swap out the fuel pump relay for a known good to see if that could be the issue. If there is not change, I'd go for the fuel pump. Thanks!

  • @hearsejr
    @hearsejr Před 2 lety +1

    You dont have to suck the gas out. Open the fuel door remove the screws holding the fuel neck to the bed, remove the bolts the hold the fuel tank side of the bed on the frame, losen the other side of the bed bolts thst hold the bed to the frame but don't remove them completely. Get a friend to stick a 2X4 to prop the bed up and then you can the fuel pump out. While the fuel pump is outplace clean towel over the fuel pump hole in the tank. It tskes sbout 30 minutes with an electric impact gun.

    Diagnosis doesn't stop at "fuel pump doesn't work" the question is why it doesn't work. You didn't check for a clogged fuel filter for instance. There's also a unique problem with this generation F150's , a wiring harness on passenger side of engine rests on a hot pipe - it's insulated but still hot melts the insulation off the wires and then the power from somewhere doesn't get to someone where and if you fix or replace those wires, it works again.

      But wouldn't a faulty Fuel Driver Module throw a code? I have a Crank but No Start situation but I'm getting a "Pass" with no codes fired.

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  Před 4 lety +1

      Howdy! The FDM failure may throw a separate code, but they didn't start being used until 2004 in the second generation of the triton engines. The black F150 in this video threw Lean Bank codes when it's pump failed. But my 97 never coded at all when its pump died last month even though it ran really badly for a fair bit of time. Best check for the pump is the schrader valve on the fuel rail. If it's not spraying everywhere when the key is on, the pump is seriously suspect. Thanks!

    • @WallyJ2K
      @WallyJ2K Před 4 lety +1

      @@aaronsrose How do I know it it's the FDM vs the Fuel Pump? Also, I tried the test where you spray starter fluid to check for missing fuel, and the engine still didn't fire up at all, not even for a couple of seconds, which makes me think it's a spark issue. I can't find my Shrader valve to check for pressure. Found one valve that spewed green liquid. That wasn't it.

  • @dwatson4

    2001 XLT sport no power to fuel pump. When testing voltage at relay socket in key off there is 12v on one side, key on 12v 2 sides and 7.7v on the fuel pump side. How’s that happen?

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  Před rokem

      If the 7.7V is through the relay, I'd swap it with another to see if it changes. If it works better with another relay, I'd put a new relay in it and continue. If the 7.7V (should be 12v I'd expect) at the relay socket is not making it to the hot side of the pump, I'd start running down the wires from the relay to the pump to see if there is a broken one or short somewhere. And for grins, I'd make sure the fuse is happy as well.

    • @aaronsrose

      Still could be fuel pump failing. This 03 would sometimes start and run a little and then die when the pump stopped producing pressure. A fuel pressure test would confirm that.

    Have similar problem on 03, 4.6L except the fuel pressure goes to 40 psi with ignition on, then drops immediately to zero. I am also getting no fire, or rpm reading. I am wondering if the ecm is sensing zero fuel pressure and shutting off the ignition to spark. It seems there may be a bad check valve in the fuel pump, even though it was change not long ago. Any idea why there would be no spark following what appears to be fuel bleed off after initial ign on?....thanks

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  Před 2 lety +2

      I think these trucks started using a fuel pump control module in about 04. It's usually under the floor on the frame around the front of the spare tire. I think it controls the speed of the pump. If that is crapping out maybe it's not allowing the pressure to get to where it needs to. I'd see if I could find and test the fpcm.

    I have a 2004 Ford F150 5.4 L heritage edition.. At times, it won’t crank over. The only method to successfully turning it on, is to disconnect the inertia, turn it on and then reconnect the inertia switch. When it doesn’t turn on, the inertia switch is not tripped. I have since replaced the switch with a brand new one, but the problem persists. If anyone has any idea as to what I should do, I would really be appreciative! Thank you.

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@aaronsrose nice fix Aaron!! My 2003 F-150 4.2 L V-6 will crank but will NOT start or even act like starting like your 2003 4.6 L V-6. It ran fine when I parked it the nite before. I'm NOT getting any spark & CANNOT hear the fuel pump running with the key on! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! I did replace the coil pack but no luck!! All the fuses are good! I checked them first! Maybe PCM relay or the PCM itself? Any help Aaron would be greatly appreciated. I did some research here online & found out there is NO Fuel pump driver module on the 2003. Ford started putting them on in 2004. I even crawled under the rear, with the spare tire removed & only thing there is a canister. I have MS & NOT able to do as much as I use to! I'll be waiting to hear back from you! Thanks!

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  Před 4 lety

      Sorry to hear that. If you have no pressure st the fitting on the fuel rail, the pump is either not running or has failed. Unless it's always been loud enough to hear the pump. You may not be able to. If the fuses and relays are good and the truck cranks over with the key it could be the pump and/or filter. If you've checked for spark by pulling a coil and plug and cranking the truck while grounding the plug on the head and saw no spark, especially on multiple coils, that's a different problem. I'm not sure what controls the firing of the plugs but I would check to see if the ECM is getting power correctly. Good luck.
