I have seen a few different segments commemorating Shailendra. It is sometimes mentioned that the initial reception of Teesri Kasam disheartened him, that the film took five years to complete, that Raj Kapoor didn't readily give him dates for shooting, ... But for the life of me neither can I understand, nor anybody explained why that was so, considering the enormous regard RK had for Shailendra, over the years. In a way, RK was responsible for Shailendra's film career, and also his own movie success was considerably enhanced by the lyrical contributions of Shailendra, of course along with the exceptional music and orchestrization by S-J.
Somebody please explain, why did RK shortchange his 'kaviraj', his 'pushkin'?

Krishnaji, that's the question that haunts me whenever I think about what Shailendraji must have gone in those last thre to four months.
Raj Kapoor no doubt the greatest showman of film industry, but his neglect has done enormous damage. Shankarji before his death told his family members not to inform film industry if the worst happens to him. He passed away and there was nobody from the film industry.( I read this in our weekly edition of a Gujarati newspaper). When Rajkapoor found out about his( Shankarji) death , he went with so many people and paid his tribute. Another thing about Shankarji is that he was very lonely after Jaikishanj's sudden death and used to stand near Jai's photo( Tasveer) and say ," my brother, I am nothing without you. Having lost Shailendra few years back and Mera Nam Joker box office failure and Raj Kapoor changing music director for Bobby has also played some role to Shankarji's overwhelming grief and sadness. Anyway our Geetkar and music directors will always live in our memories.

@@dhiranprajapati647 Thank you for a very detailed note. Couldn't agree more.
For a couple of decades this team of Raj Kapoor, Shailendra, Shankar-JaiKishan, Lata/Mukhesh gave us memorable, haunting music like no other team did, even though around the same time there were many highly competent MDs, who were all great in their own way.
In a way, JaiKishan was lucky that he passed away without encountering the troubles, financial and emotional, that Shankar and Shailendra had to suffer through.
Apparently in the early days the group was rather tight knit, sharing their successes. Even a comparitively wealthy RK helped Shailendra hoping to get him to write songs for him, which Shailendra initially declined. And later when he wrote the title song for Anari, apparently RK went to Shailendra's house exclaiming that it just describes himself perfectly! - sab kuch seekhaa humne, na seekhee hoshiyaaree, such hai duniyawaalon, ke hum hai anaadee.
      Those were the days!!

Raj Kapoor was very selfish man, he was only concerned about his success and money. He was the main person who betrayed Shailendra. Shailendra trusted every one blindly and to whom he thought were his friends they were not. Hd couldn't take this betrayal and lost his life.
