If you start marketing Euroleague better you'll just end up with another NBA. Because marketing people are gonna start to push for more points per game more action more highlights - hence no handcheking etc.
They'll say we need more star power to get better endorsement deals so starting players need more minutes and traveling doesn't count for them.
They'll say we need more commercial breaks and more playtime AND more games to have more time to show ads and get better sponsorship deals.
You can see were I'm going with this. As stupid as it sounds i think Euroleague is as great as it is because it's a niche product for hardcore basketball fans.
Number 1 sport in Europe is and always will be football, but some football clubs throw a few bones to their basketball teams probably as tax write off, or just because it's a laughingly small sum for them to get some prestige. And that saves European basketball from becoming something like handball which is almost semi-pro sport.
And it's great. Audience gets an awesome niche product that has maximum sportsmanship with great talent because it gets basically subsidiesed. But try to make it mainstream and it will become a league with worst aspects of NBA with less money less talent and still won't be able to compete with football for really big money deals.
Maybe i'm stupid but I think NBA is as big as it is because it's not a sport it's a business, it's a show, it's entertainment. Euroleague is still a sport. You throw enough money at a sport and it stops being a sport it becomes a business. I like watching sports.

Some good points about marketing dangers but also some dumb ones.
"but some football clubs throw a few bones to their basketball teams probably as tax write off, or just because it's a laughingly small sum for them to get some prestige." That one is dumb. You are confusing sports clubs and football clubs. Sports clubs have an array of sports under their umbrella: foot, basket, track, ice hockey, track, chess, judo and other sports. Its not 'throwing' a few bones but how they were constituted. The justification why they do it is just as bad.
Basketball isnt succeeding in europe because of the generosity of a handful of football teams. Thats simply childish reasoning and shows a poor understanding of both sports,.
As for handball, you have to be quite cunty and living in your own bubble to think that any sport that isnt football is semi pro. There are handball, volleyball, waterpolo, ice hockey, rubgy and other sports where players get paid for playing sports. Thats like saying european basketball is semi pro because the players only make a fraction of NBA. Or any football league that doesnt pay players the insane wages of the top few teams in 3-4 leagues isnt worth calling professional.

The reason why they have much smaller number of games is because those teams play their national leagues which large number of them are pretty tough. Euroleague is 1000x more interesting to watch than NBA because every game is played like It is their last game in their carrer. So much passion (especially in Serbia, Tel Aviv, Athens, and more...) that brings to the game is INSANE. So much mind games, tactics and IQ Euroleague has to offer. You are never going to see a guy in Eurolague to shoot more that 20 shots like Harden, Durant, etc. (not gonna include Luka because when he was in Euroleague he wasn't doing that). Euroleague teams have their regular season in their home leagues (maybe boring, too) but the weekly Euroleague game is usually THE game of the week, for clubs, coaches and players, and the games that their future careers and contracts depend on. It is not strange that the average intensity is higher. Tactically you can see how teams are developing their systems and adjustments to move forward in the competition, and I think you nailed it, playing almost every day in the NBA, the tactical side can't be as relevant as it is in playoffs time.

He was one of the best defenders in the league for like 3 seasons. Still had overall a rather negative impact on the team.
The offensive skills of NBA players is just too much to handle. You lose more than u get by playing only defense. Not stretching the floor or not helping your team in any way offensively can not be balanced out by playing the best defense of the league.

You have on one side the popcorn family event, driven by highlight dunkings, long range shots, super stars on the court with 40 shots per game and low level of passion, especially during regular season
On the other side you have the super passionate and energetic basketball event, where each ball counts, each win is highly celebrated, where the fight is in focus, fans love to see their players fight on the court for each ball, much more then a super-dunk. Team basketball instead of one man show! The refs are much more under pressure... Fight instead of mass media show. Real basketball instead of profit-only driven typical US event...
Look at football - even there is a huge amount of money - watch the derbys in Spain, England or champions league, look at the players how they celebrate each goal. We speak here more about a mentality difference - in Europe you still have emotions, passion... In US is most of that eaten by money. System puppets without a soul.

PJ Tucker is the exact guy you're talking about at the beginning of this video, funnily enough he did play overseas before coming to back to the US and playing in the NBA. He went the longest consecutive time without scoring a point in NBA history this season, and still starts and plays 20+ minutes despite regularly scoring almost no points. Of course PJ is very much a rarity in the league, but NBA teams generally don't want complete non-factors on offense.
However, a lot of your points are very valid. The NBA regular season becomes a slog and because so many teams make the playoffs the biggest challenges for the top contenders is usually to try to stay healthy through the regular season while securing home court advantage. Euroleague definitely has a lot of advantages to the game, and I honestly think NBA rules have given so much power to offensive players that it's not as entertaining. It's gone from offense vs. defense to the offense is at a massive advantage, and the defense needs everything to go right. Just eliminating defensive 3 seconds in the NBA I think would go a long way.

What you also need to know is that zone deffence was always allowed so it is much more chalanging for offence and for defence. Another big difference is that games are not entertaintment shows. There are no big screens, No attractions. No distructions. Only thing going on is the game and ofcourse supporting your team. As you said already it is really compettitive. But this way it will be even harder for an LA vs NY or Boston in the final, and this is what the NBA is always looking for in the end

I always find curious how much they care about statistics in the US. If you tell a football (soccer for Americans) player he's going to play 15 games less per season they'd throw a party. Statistics wouldn't even cross their mind. They'd just think they'll be less prone to injuries and would have time to recover between games.

Partially Agree, they should bring in the marketing guys from Formula One especially the brains behind "drive to survive" to sell the product.

Do they need to? Or rather, would a Euroleague fan ever want that? Greed kills sport, whether it's ridiculously inflated fees for players, or rule changes/officiating changes that favor a certain playstyle that 'would generate more views'. Drive To Survive, while having high budget production quality and POTENTIAL to be an amazing entertainment product to bring in more viewers, focuses on promoting fake narratives, is significantly disproportionate in terms of who they cover, sometimes leaving out drivers entirely. Does Euroleague need that, solely for the purpose of selling the product?

NBA is the most boring professional sports league, not just basketball
no disrespect to the talent of the NBA players (most talented decade of all time) but the highlight reel plays happen so often, the pace is so fast - it just gives regular season games the feel of ‘whoever has the hotter shooting night as a team wins’ no diversity in play styles (as teams), no players willing to learn & fit key roles for their teams, coaches influence is limited to making star personalities mesh well
hopefully the league can make a few rule changes to slow the pace / benefit the defender more often, because the NBA can definitely be the most competitive & entertaining pro league

Example : If you don't deep drop in nba with certain centers, nba guards will blow them by with their quick first step following with crazy athleticism.
If you have a much different players with much higher talent and abilities you can't compare the game played like that. You probably know bunch of basketball, you don't know how the games work in general however.

And by the way fir example Giannis for some years when he had 18ppg then and full seasons in NBA was crap in Greek national team. Only after 3,4 years he started to add stuff. He couldnt permeate the defence, and couldnt participate in the higher level passing and system games of Europe and would just keep the ball and try to finish unsuccessfully or lose time. Then he developed in many ways and also in knowledge of European game through years of practice with National team. So some times it is both ways.
Of course the best would be the Euroleague when it also adds to squads the best NBA players as well.

Euroleague is also much easier to bet on. Like you said, in the NBA teams will dick around for 3 quarters and then decide to start trying and score 80 points in just the 4th quarter, or they'll go hard for the first 2 quarters and if the lead is big enough they'll dick around for the last two. IN the Euroleague you can predict things based on stats and substitutions. They go hard no matter what. In the NBA you have to predict things with a big emphasis on the psychology of each team's situation. For example, if a team is up 30 points going into half time, they almost always come out and dick around for as long as they can until the game gets close enough that they have to start trying again. If you bet on the over/under in a game that isn't close, you have to account for the fact that NBA players will basically dribble it out for the last minute of the game and not even play. In many European leagues your total point difference for the season is used as a tiebreaker, so every single point matters to them and they play hard until the clock hits 0's
