“She’s got a Way” is Billy’s first track from his first album released in 1971. Growing up at that time in Allentown I became familiar with his early work, because he played regular concerts there in small venues and got a lot of radio airplay. I love the simplicity along with the beautiful melody and lyrics. His early music will always be my favorite. Another beautiful song that has meaning to me is “You’re my Home”

Sounds like this is the one from Songs in the Attic. Pefect. Each track is a live version that Joel thought better captured the spirit of the song than the one you'd hear on the studio album.

It’s his heart and soul. After an artist makes and is no longer hungry, they’re not as good. Your comment about Paul Cartney is spot on. This song was on two of Billy's albums, Cold Spring Harbour 1971 and again in 1981, Live Songs in the Attic.
It has been stated to be one of Billy's most romantic songs. It was written for his first wife, Elizabeth, who he was married from 1973-82. He said at first he was embarrassed because the lyrics were so corny. The original release contain Billy playing piano with the occasional crash of the cymbals.

Harri, Billy Joel has stated that he was inspired by the Beatles and that made him take up music. That said, I agree with you 100% about the similarities between the Billy Joel compositions and the Paul McCartney influences...and in some cases confusion over where Paul leaves off and Billy continues. I must clarify they are both musical geniuses in their own ways, but we may never have enjoyed Billy Joel's catalog without Paul McCartney's inspiration. You are a real joy to watch react and provide feedback. Keep up the great work friend.

When you said this is like something Paul McCartney would write I thought of “Something”, written and sung by George Harrison on The Beatles’ Abbey Road album. It’s similar in that he’s describing what he loves about his wife and how she makes him feel. Another song along the same line is Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight”. All three of these songs feel like an intimate peek into the writer’s heart and mind, and I think most wives would love to know that this is how they are viewed by their husbands.

FYI - Eydie came into prominence in the mid-50s and remained active & popular until just shortly before her death in 2013 at the age of 84. She & her husband, the equally talented Steve Lawrence, each had great solo careers of their own, & together, they became one of the greatest nightclub acts & recording artists of the 20th century!!! Steve & Eydie were perfection on stage together. Also, Steve's early hit, Portrait Of My Love, is incredibly beautiful!! Both Steve & Eydie, as well as Steve & Eydie together, have some fabulous music to be heard. Hope you'll treat yourself & listen soon.

IMO the original recording is a better way to listen to this particular song. This is faster, and the sound quality isn’t good, so the lyrics get tossed out and fly by without giving time to let them really sink in. It’s virtuosic, but it doesn’t serve the song well.
The song comments on those who are so into causes and protesting that they’re all about rage and looking down on other people. We had a lot of that in the late 60s and into the 70s. Radicals - whether on the left or the right - can be obnoxious, and turn people off. Sometimes, it’s more important to take care of your everyday life than to be always wrapped up in yelling at others.

Harri, if you want to do a very beautiful song most people never heard of from Billy Joel, it’s called “Souvenir”. It’s rarely ever performed live, but he did so on a tv show in the 70’s on the BBC called the old grey whistle test. It shows off his Mozart or Chopin trained talent and it’s so nostalgic it’s hard not to cry when listening to it. It’s very very very short yet it encapsulates life in a snapshot. It’s on CZcams to watch:)
