Still daily driving my 04 since purchased new. Best looking body style Toyota ever made is mainly why I still have it. In 20 years, only had to repair the front axle boot and valve cover seal. Prices certainly are going up and they are rapidly disappearing. - West Palm Beach

It’s at 171. If you go for one, try and get one under 150k. Change the tranny fluid right away and every 40k and it will last well over 300k. Not that you’ll keep it that long ha. I wouldn’t trade my Celica for a new Supra, LC, RC, Z, Jag Ftype (if couldn’t ever sell). Should lower 1.5” for way better look.@@LightBlueWool

Here in America they are fairly rare and quite expensive for nicer reasonable mileage ones. They are kind of impossible to beat with the 2ZZ and their weight though. Even to this day with brand new toyotas, you are not getting much better and certainly nothing that looks cooler, let along the Celica name.

I’ve been searching for just the right 2nd Celica for some time. Automatic action package GT 03-05. paint or wrap Dodge sublime green. My current 04 Zephyr blue has an admired look I want to keep. I’m waiting for a company to emerge that can hybrid power the rear wheels adding at least 250 hp hopefully for under $6k. Store the battery in the back. Run out of electric? No problem.

@@techhpro Do what I did and save one. I bought my sisters Celica which was collecting dust and spider webs. Blown cylinder, fading and peeling paint, dirty and destroyed interior. It was one phone call away from the junkyard. I was so sad I could not allow that to happen. I invested $15,000 of my money into it and now she is a brand new looking EXCELLENT condition black celica. Entered a car show and we got 3rd place BEST Toyota class. I was so proud. WE beat a Supra!!!! Save a Celica. Ohhhhhh I like your idea about a hybrid unit to power back wheels. I do hope someone would come out with that. Issue is how much weight would the batteries and motor add to the lightweight Celica? We could reduce weight like remove the back seats.

    • @captainjosue
      @captainjosue Před 8 měsíci

@BeijingBidensBloviatingBasketO Damn that must be frustrating as hell. I recommend you try to connect to another stock ECU and see how that runs. Maybe borrow one from another Celica owner. I recently was running a performance tune on my Celica and it's great the performance side but it ran rich idle and occasionally had some idling issues that was annoying. Running with stock ECU and it runs perfect. Yeah I can feel the loss in power but the driveability is soooo smooth. I'll put back on the performance tune later. I switch every now and then .

"Fake sports car?" The Celica has been going before you were born. It is a mixture of practicality with sporty performance. The 2ZZ engine (which Lotus use) at 190 BHP can keep up and even embarrass many sports cars twice the power through country roads.

I've had a gts 6spd I drive to work for years. With basic maintenance I'd say it's a good, reliable car, basically an entry level sports car version of a corolla. I'd say the power is sufficient and maybe decent for it's time for a daily but this car needs at least another 100hp and really to have been rwd to be fun on the track. That's not to say it's not fun or can't hold its own on a track against similar cars, just that it's not particularly fast. That said, driving a slow car fast can sometimes be more fun than driving a fast car fast.
I bought another gts with an automatic that someone didn't take care of the engine and it's thrashed so I decided to LS swap and convert to rwd. That should solve the power issue.

Picked up a nice 142K miles red GT-S this year from a dealer for $8,000. With the payment plan it will be about $10,000 and it needed $1,600 of work on top of that plus all the stuff I've done to it.
I hear of people picking these up all the time for cheap, but it's just not so here in Oregon. They are regularly listed at 200K miles for a huge sums.

Whooooooaaahhh dude that's crazy! If a company was committed to converting them to left hand drive for you's lot then i might have to start exporting them to the US and literally quadruple my money because here in the UK they go from anywhere between £500 & £2000 respectively!
What you know as the GTS was named the Tsport over here (2zzge) and they had 190bhp unlike the 180 in the USA.. i got mine from a car breakers for £800 on 120k miles, ofcause with a couple of issues but nothing i couldn't do for a fraction of the price mechanics charge over here because i have the facilities..so i gave it a full service including new vvtli filter and lift bolts to ensure nothing would stop that all favourite lift kicking in! Within 3 days i was painting the town red with this car!!!
Lotus over here used the exact same engine with oem internals in their Lotus Elise/Exige, with a HKS supercharger making 250horses! I'm currently rebuilding mine with a Greddy high boost supercharger!
Just a few months ago i yet again got the chance to get what you know as the GT (1zzfe) with 140bhp for only £500 which isnt even $1k over there... same story just needed a service and couple things here and there addressing and i was shocked to establish it might be the better of the two engines when it comes to building them for big power!
So ye when im done with my 2zz im going to look into turbo charging my 1zz

@@dalejenkins1558 Can't imagine why they are so cheap in the UK. Maybe they sold a lot more of them or they are more common? You CAN get them for cheapish, over here, but you pay for a beater. Mine was pretty damn nice, but the front bumper of course is all rock chipped up like a lot seem to be.
I wonder what MK3 Supras are like over there if there are any. I own an 88' and the prices are all over the map here. It's very hard to find a nice one. I paid $8K for a VERY nice base model NA/auto @ 115K miles. They go up quite steeply from there unless you want a project car.

    I have an 01 gts
Just spent $1700 on oil leaks and power steering pump
    It’s a 4sp automatic so power isn’t reallt great
Still love the car though. Very unique in a modern world

4-speed AT isn't that bad. I've driven my friend's '04 Celica with one and it fares pretty well for a 4-speed. And yet it's no match for my own '94 6th gen GT-S (N. American spec) with its 5S-FE engine which has less HP than 1ZZ VVT-i. When I floored it, I could tailgate him with ease.

if that one has the same 2zz ge as my corrola, who cares what its like to "daily". it stopped being a car of note with that ff eccno model.
No, not watchin the video. That craplica made me give up on that name, just like toyota did.
