Can anyone tell me why Bronte doesn’t just marry Phil instead of marrying a stranger? If she truly wants to help out George then I can understand, but she doesn’t know him or even like him. Why would you marry someone you don’t know anything about just to buy a greenhouse apartment? The rest of the film is fine but this plot line is unrealistic., illogical and irrational.
Brilliant scene. First apprehension, he doesn't want to play. Then shock, then, I can't stop laughing, then, I'm crying! Who could make this scene believable? But he did it. 💐
I've watched "Green Card" at least 20 times in my life, and this is my favorite scene! Gerard Depardieu ---- yeah! He makes all films no matter what the genre -- fantastic!

It is a very moving scene, as strong as any I've seen in a film. The film is not serious, but theres something about this scene which is so beautiful. I think the embarrassment where George is playing randomly....vs the delicacy of the poem just works perfectly.
This poem and the piece he's playing always makes my heart sooo ... so... wordless! The children and the trees...... Thank you!! And I loooove when he goes crazy on the piano!! That party needed to eas up!!!!

one of my all time fav films, stellar cast and wonderful direction by outstanding Oz director Peter Weir. This is another story which says "you are the person I never knew I always wanted" His masculinity to her was at first a turn off, but at the end he swept her off her feet and I always think he would have eaten her up once he got his hands on her, but in a good way, just what her character needed. You can be an independent woman but still need to be loved hard, we all do

He don’t know how to play piano and he is not a music conductor too. He just played this and made up the poem because he is a poetic man in reality a gangster
Loved this scene. The tacky music in combination with the kitschy poem, it was almost too much but shows a perfect understanding of the sentimentality of his rich host.
To be honest, it's the music and the lady that make this scene so touching. His lines are appealing to those needing a translation because it's French, but they have none of her emotion. The catch in her voice, the sadness in her face... that's what makes you want to cry.
I have seen this movie only once, about 25 years ago. This scene stayed with me through all this time.

The ease in which Depardieu took us across half a dozen emotions, and makes it look SO EASY that this gets passed off as 'easy'... wow!
