Is a mesh net or window screen necessary for the water when it goes to the bottom? Or is that more for plants that are not succulents?

Can I use lava rock instead of charcoal?

Why do you use activated charcoal?

It stops the water from going stale / bad smells from when the water seeps to the bottom

And stops fungus/mold

How do you water it?

occasionally, through the opening at the top.

We use a baster and water around the sides but the sand should really go on the bottom before the rocks
