Man I am so happy I found your channel. You have this Bob-Ross approach to making music and its so playful and open. Thank you
I never thought about it like that, ben levin really is the bob ross of song writing
That was like Bowie, Massive Effect, and Radiohead all got together and made something magical happen. That was just mesmerizing. Thank you.
Justin Strahan damn that’s perfect
I did NOT expect the song at the end. I mean, let's face it, what you came up with in the beginning was cool, but I was like, "ok, that's a cool loop you got there". Then you started stretching it out and I was like, "ok, very interesting". Then you played the final product and I was like "where did THAT come from?!" I know you edited stuff out, but man... that was something else.
There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to do this. There’s no complex crazy stuff going on. I just don’t let myself think as freely as our fake doctor. I get five minutes into something and end up hating the sound and getting stuck.
investigating why that negative energy exists is very important. if you're putting yourself in competition with others (like the doctor) subliminally that can be really bad. it's something in one's mindset that's a process to reduce
Seriously. One thing that helps though is writing with a plan. Plan out the sections and give some limitations for yourself. It really helped me
I agree, you can do it. I think people wait for good ideas, but I don't think it's always clear what a good idea is until you look back at it in the future. Have you ever tried to make a bad song on purpose? That can be pretty fun and can help lighten things up. You might even like what you made :)
Greg Gregory Well my dude, there is nothing in the upwards direction that constitutes anything that people would want to give something, so your statement appears to be problematic.
In the same boat.. it's been years since I've actually completed any music. Struggling badly..
sock filter FTW!
That sounds awesome. Something that I would put in my playlist.
wow Ben you've been seriously working on your vocals and the payoff is hyuge!
Thank you! It's true, I've been practicing a lot.
tho there's auto tune in there, no?
There's pitch shifting (he shifts his voice up and down octaves to create that perfect robot double thing), but that's not the same as auto tune.
i know what pitch shifting is, thank you, but are you sure?
the pitch shiftng gives him the voice doubling, if there is auto tune it's subtle.
Some serious Steven Wilson vibes here! Amazing!
This video started and hearing the initial tracks I thought it would end up a mess. That final track was so awesome, it seems like you did it so fast. Impressive.
The climax chords are gorgeous. The guitare solo is beautiful.
I love the switching into facetto and the passion that builds up ever so slowly.
I'm late to that party but his deserves to be at least a 6 minute piece and why not a full concept album to develope an immersive story with lirics and music. This is awesome.
Amazing!!!! You always keep inspiring me dude... And that falsetto.... Sooooo good...keep up the good work!!!
I am so glad we have youtube and people like you Ben. I learn something new every time I watch your channel. Thanks!
very powerful. thanks for sharing your music with us, Ben
Ben thank you for sharing your knowledge and ideas. You inspire so much
Hey Ben thanks for inspiring me to make more experimental music. It really helps with my confidence as a musician to watch you week after week making music that's just as delightfully left field as it is beautiful. I'll be a patreon as soon as I can, and keep up the awesome work!
Epic is the word. The result is superb.
I like these old vids so much
Wow, that became a great piece of music! Thanks for sharing Ben.
WOW! what amazing results. Definitely something I'm going to try. Thanks, Ben!
That "What happens next" part gets me too much
This channel is a gold mine. Thank you for being an inspiration, Ben!
Amazing! You are an inspiration.
Love this one!!!
You're amazing man, I love everything you do.
Ben you became Trent Reznor for a minute there i saw it. It was crazy!
Another inspiring piece! I have to say I had no idea where you were going with that, but I loved it; you really nailed the vocals and the guitar solo.
So good, watching you work on songs like this reminds me why I love making music, I often lose sight of the fun and creative aspects of making music and get stuck on not liking what I make so it's hard to progress. I need to just let loose and have fun with it. You are awesome! Clearly a very talented and creative musician.
Dude this is unreal.
Those vocals sound incredible!
i love you ben thank you for your hard work
its really great to watch you go through creating a track like this in a DAW. there have been so many times that I have started a song and gotten 3 tracks in only to feel like the whole idea was bad. But you showed me that maybe I just need to add a little more rythmic/harmonic content. Thank you for teaching us how to improve.
Nice work! More!!
Holy crap I could listen to the pad sound alone for at least 10 minutes. It's massive and the texture is really damn ominous, good job on it and the whole video in general
You always continue to impress me!
Aw man that gave me the chills!!
Damn, I got mad chills from this one
Woah this one turned out WILD. Love it man!
Thanks for sharing this Ben, you are an inspiration! I love your videos so much :D
Pretty sound!
Your voice is so beautiful in this song, it really has improved a lot!
pd: by the way, i'm learning a lot about reaper with your videos :P
Incredible!!!
This song turned out amazing!
It's crazy how you just go ahead and do stuff without caring if it's the beast piece of art that has been ever made, such a cool working mentality. Your ideas seem very clear and simple, yet they work AMAZINGLY well. Lot to learn from guys like you. Great great vocals, btw!
Thank you Juan, I think writing a good song is really good, but writing a bad song is just practice. Nothing to lose in that equation!
Damn! Amazing tune, thank you for sharing :)
Killer vocals! Great stuff.
Wow, so good!
That was quite moving...
Vocals really are great!
He's like the male Bjork.
Wadsmitter Thom bjorke
Oh man, yeah!
this song is SICK
This is the best song you’ve ever done imo. Great fucking work bro!!! For real, it’s amazing!! 👍🏻👍🏻
This. Is. Majestic.
Also there's quite a big blade runner vibe and I love it.
Yeah!
The slide guitar was awesome!
Damn. That was so good.
Holy wow!
awesome i like this one.....i seem to have been oblivious to Bent Knee until now....'Being Human' & 'Way Too Long'....WOW you all sound amazing.
i will be unable to catch you on your tour as i'm in the UK and to travel to my closest European destinations will be difficult because of gigs and moneeyz.
i hope you add UK to your tour in the future
all the best
There isn't a whole lot of progressive house that I like (check out Protoplasm - Mononoid though) but I LOVE all the ways that tension builds with. There's simple things like opening low-pass filters, low-pass plucks that get a longer sustain over time, delays that almost sound too chaotic by the end etc. but I recently found that intensifying FM modulations can be crazy as well.
All of my decent synths were quite haphazardly put together though, to get one that keeps sounding nice as it gets modulated is quite the challenge. Much easier to take one that sounds good unprocessed and just use low-pass techniques from there as that basically always sounds good.
That is insanely good and it started so innocent...
This is so dope
This is giving me strong sigur ros vibes and I fucking adore it
It also takes me 2 mins to climax!
I love this song. :)
Outstanding. Sublime. Delicious. Lovington. 🖤
Oh no! Ben I wish you and bent knee would have done some dates in England. You're so high on my list of bands to see live, but I just can't make it to europe at the moment.
Have you ever conjured the devil while making music? If so, how do you get rid? This is a fairly urgent question....
Your falsetto at the end sounds very Thom Yorke -esque. Beautiful.
Hell yes!
Your voice! 😍!
The bass dancing @ 3:12.... (kisses fingers). Perfect.
Epic falsetto! King Diamond would be proud.
I would really buy an album for this single
Wow, Ben. This is super cool. Are you putting it on Bandcamp?
This is like an alternate univerese Radiohead, where Thom Yorke is actually Ben Levin.
I'm digging the "crap out of it" lesson here.
Holy shit, beautiful guitar part :o!
Okay, this is the first original music I’ve seen of Ben’s after seeing a bunch of stuff he’s done with Adam Neely, that final product was amazing!!
Badass bro
This is so cool, I think it the song Exit Music for a film used a similar thing
Keep on waltzing, man! :)
3 words: Holy fucking shit
Yes Ben. The quality and value of the content has gone huge since patron. It's working
Is this blade runner 2049
Uh no, because this music is actually good.
TheSecretProvider 🤷🏼♂️
Dayum, shots fired.
I wasn't the only one. The compression distortion sounds just like the big bassy synths in seawalls
Bent Knee, huh? I've been watching your videos for a while and I guess I already own one of your CD's. Also a signed poster with your face on it. Dunno how I missed that one.
The emotions at 12:16 are godly
the voidzzzz
ya ya ya ya boi
I'm loving your song-writing videos; this song was great!
PS. Has anyone told you that your voice sounds a bit like Damon Albarn?
Thanks! No, but no I'm checking him out and I see what you mean!
I was thinking the exact same thing about the falsetto tones
I cannot unhear this now
AlexWhiteLanda SAME
That moment he went beast mode.
sounds like radiohead, but unpretentious, light and fun
Great video Ben! My biggest problem when making a song always comes when I try to make the drum beats. Any tips on that?
Wow, you really like Björk. Great stuff, by the way,
I really need to invest the time in figuring reaper out properly so I can give this a go
DuuuuuudeeeeEEEEuuuuudeeeeeed!!!
Loved this song, is it possible to listen to it anywhere else than youtube?
Well in the first minute I now know how Hans Zimmer wrote the soundtrack for Bladerunner 2049, he just took that type of plugin and threw golf balls at the keyboard, then put some percussion over it :P
I kid herr Zimmer, nice work!
Hey Ben, big fan here, awesome song!! Quick question, what software are you using?
0:56 CuUUuuuUwuu
Pls cut Just the final song And put It in another vídeo. That way i could download it. Cuz It ends FREAKING AMAZING
epic.
Couple of tracks I could think of in 'epic ramp' form:
Nathan Fake - You Are Here
Everything Everything - No Reptiles
Anyone know any others?
Brandon JC almeva - 4bells
