If players are gonna play like this on qualifying, then prefer just play best of five matches, this has more sense on teams competition, not men singles.
You haven't seen how hard Omar hits on his backhands... That guy is a beast, I watched him train 5 months ago, the balls all ended up looking black dotted due to how hard he hits them, it's like a bullet really... He's also incredibly tall so he reaches for balls no one think he'll actually block, you can see how shocked Truls looked by how much power he's recieving, also the cybershape has many advantages, serve recieves isn't one of them.

This game format would be okay if simply just add one option to all players: a player can give up (surrender) a set by his/her will. Then Truls and Dang Qiu can just give up their last sets instead of making these shit-shows.
In the last round of a women's group in which Mima Ito played against Amy Wang, Amy Wang was out at 1:2. If Amy gave up the last game, Mima would be No.1 of the group. But Amy won the last game, then both Mima and Amy were out. I think allowing players to give up is not a good idea.
The World Cup style of play is against the ITTF's own rules both regarding match format and contradicts the rule of always trying to play to full potential. Also kills the sport from the spectators view. 2 sets of 4 in exhibition play??
Imagine that, after the dissapointment of lossing the match, having to muster the mental strength to entertain the crowd for another set, just becuase ITTF wants to sell longer shows and tickets. This ridiculous experimenting format is not about sports it's about marketing. I feel bad for Truls and any other players who have had to deal with this. I hope we don't see any other experiments from ITTF.
Truls moregardh making a fool of himself in the last set. Yes the format is bad but you don’t have to disrespect yourself and the game like that. In the women’s section there was much higher level of professionalism as players played each set competitively even if they were already out by the last set.
