I m 63 years old and feel like an aspie that only got the learning disability’s sensory issues. Not seeing the gifts. Not great at anything. Been married 36 years had a meltdown for a multitude of reasons and changes that have happened in my house. Biggest, my daughter and her new baby moved in. I never get the quiet time I’ve had before. My house was my refuge. Feeling desperate.

I find in my life, if I could find someone who can understand me, I know I could learn to spell n write. I know I can talk with others about many different subjects, with out schooling, I'll see many eyes browse lift up, I see things in many different ways, so if I explain what I see , there's a eye opening for others. This makes me smile.

I'am currently undidiagianondes, but I resonenate especialla with dr. Garnett. My Autism makes is difficult to inertact with humans, and I play always a role, I don't know who I am, but considering my autistic strength make me hopeful for the future

I'd love to hear more about those on the autistic spectrum who are able to be successful in the arts. I heard Tony Attwood say that he's able to identify art that's created by an autistic mind. What are the characteristics of autistic art? I'm on the autistic spectrum and am a writer by profession, and I wonder if Tony would be able to identify my writing as having autistic traits.

Hi Tony and Michelle, I have vert recently been diagnosed with moderate High Functioning Autism and moderate ADHD - combined type at 50. What can it mean for my future when I've never been encouraged to reach my potential or use my special interests and gifts to be successful. I don’t know where to go from here. I feel cheated of the last 50 years of my life and I have had so much bullying and CPTSD in my life, which I can never get back.

This is both wonderful and sad to hear. Most of what you allude too is 'high functioning' autism. My son (now 27) has been diagnosed with autism and complex learning disabilities, with what we now suspect is compounded by apraxia/dispraxia. He is non verbal and lacks the ability to self initiate anything without prompting. 'Choosing' is also hugely difficult for him. We know that he is compassionate, intelligent and complex but is fundementaly 'locked inside' himself. The idea of him doing any of the things you mention... job, independence, intimate relationship, etc. seem far away to us. So we continue trying what we can, believing in the best and hoping against hope.

@@HOWITSDONE_TV I felt sad. Too many people who know some things, claiming they know more than they actually do... yeh, sad.

Is there anything for grandparents helping a grandchild where their parents won't let you see them? I'm thinking about filing an abuse charge on my daughter due to the information you had and I have during the last 2 months. A deceive told me to stay within the now nit the past. My grandson's life 8 years old and today at age 15 has been a living hell! I'm so worried about his health and well being. He's in high school and I'm afraid is is pegged as being as you say 2nd rate. Please I beg you get back with me. I live in Florida but the state hamza very far way to go to even understand Autisum.

I wish Tony and Michelle would stop promoting the stereotype that people on the spectrum are sexless eunuchs. It plays into the stereotype that people with disabilities are "eternal children" that should not be allowed to experience physical intimacy or reproduce.
