- I've owned the Garmin D2 Air for one year now and can give a complete and honest review of it's abilities and disappointments.
If you want moving maps, you must step up to the Garmin Delta PX. I recommend the PX as that is the model with Pulse Ox and Heartrate sensors.
So the D2 doesn't have moving maps, but it has pulse ox and heartrate which is awesome in it's own right.
It does just about everything else a smart watch should do. Has plenty of exercise and outdoor activity tracking apps.
I'm not a fan of the text message automatic replies, I wish there was a way to type replies back.
But the aviation apps are good otherwise.
This is awesome- thanks for reviewing it! Helpful for everyone looking at the Garmin D2 Series for sure.
Thanks! I was pretty excited after having a full year of flying with it to share.
@@fordtechchris you bet bud- I always enjoy watching your videos- always informative, interesting and well presented. Keep up the great work!

This is a great review. From what I understand it doesn’t work with ForeFlight and you can’t send non-pre formatted text messages or WhatsApp messages… is this correct?
Makes me think I may have to consider an Apple Watch instead.
You are correct. It only works with Garmin pilot and only sends pre written messages
thanks for the review. When you say no moving maps, you can still see where you are on the map but with your position in the centre and that is not moveable or there is simply no visualisation of maps (and maybe airspaces) ?
There is no visualization of maps of any kind. Sorry, I realize I wasn't clear about that. You only get the HSI I showed in the video. The Garmin Delta PX has the map visualization, but it costs twice as much.
You were SO close...does it work with FOREFLIGHT?? Does it list NOTAMs? Thank you!
I couldn't get it to work with Foreflight and I've never received TFR warnings.
@@fordtechchris so its no better than an apple watch but for more?
@@OnceShy_TwiceBitten I have no experience with any other smart watches, so I cannot make a recommendation either way. I still enjoy it, but I know apple and Samsung do other non aviation stuff that may be more useful. I don't use apple products in my normal life though.
Is the case all metal?
10hrs of sleep!!!!! God damn!
Lol. It's still not enough!
....and it is not working without a mobile data connection. which means you have to connect it to your phone and it should be connected to internet if you want to monitor your flight. which also means it is useless for commercial flights and which makes this device a toy for cadets and students...
Yes it does need to connect to your phone, but the GPS and airport data is in the watch database just like any Garmin Navigator. So whatever usefulness it's navigation can provide can be done without a phone connection. I didn't demonstrate updating the Garmin database in this video as it was getting pretty lengthy. Thanks for watching!
Hello! Congratulations for your videos, those are really interesting and usefull. Please, help me with my new D2 AIR X10, How can I receive the whatsapp notifications in it? Best regards from Chile and thanks in advance.
God what is ever going to happen to you Kids that can't NAVIGATE by Pilotage when the alternator belt breaks.
I know it, all of the tools we have these days sure make it a little too easy.
