For me, Ali has the greater career if we compare them. Ali has made the greatest upset in boxing history when he defeated Liston because he was a 7-1 underdog against him, that was the highest against the odds ever in boxing. Not only that, but Ali also defeated Joe Frazier who is widely considered to be in the top 10 greatest heavyweights of all time. He also TKO'd George Foreman in the 8th when everybody said Ali would lose because Foreman has destroyed both Norton and Frazier in less than 2 rounds, and Norton and Joe had both beaten Ali, yet Ali still won over Foreman.
It would be better is Ali and Jordan would be compared via the things they've done.

But they give excuses to lebron not winning against 37 yo duncan, 36 yo ginobili and 31 yo parker. Add the fact that finals series in 2014 is 4-1, its not even close. Against Dallas, Kidd was 37 yo, dirk (32), terry (33), series ended 4-2. The comparison is purely about the skill transition as athletes due to age related physical decline. That's it. But everyone wants to compare everything and take it out of context. This happens whenever any great athletes are compared its so annoying.

Watered down or not, the 90's was the deepest/most talented era of nba history overall. First of all, the best players of the 80's were still the best players in the 90's to a large extent (Jordan, Malone, Olajuwon, Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Wilkins, Stcokton, Tim Hardaway, Daugherty, Magic, Bird, Thomas, Mullin etc...) and second, crazy talents came in the league like Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, Shaquille O'neal, Alonzo Mourning, Jason Kidd, Garnett, Duncan...
Second, in the 90's, there's been more 50+ and 60+ wins teams than in any other era and there were 4-5 contenders by conference each season. Not only that but the 8th seed could still beat the 1st seed in that era and it happened. The competition was ferocious.
Third, I was there for the expansion but it's way overblown. First of all, a younger Bulls teams (with less veterans) were almost able to win 70+ games (67 exactly) in 1992. So, let's not act like it was out of reach in the first three-peat. Jordan even said in 1994 in an interview that if he does come back, the Bulls are going to win 70+ games.
Now, the expansion argument is WAY OVERBLOWN. Here's the truth about it. New teams WERE NOT ALLOWED to choose unrestricted free agents number one. Number two, the new teams were only allowed to chose ONLY ONE PLAYER per team. Third (and this is the most important part), every single team were allowed to "protect" 8 players in their rosters and could only be deplated of only...1 players...so THE CORE OF THE BEST PLAYERS REMAIN INTACT in the league throughout expansion. As teams protect their best players, the expansion teams can often only choose injured, old or overpaid players. That means that expansion teams won’t be good teams (let alone contenders) in their first few years in the league.
And guess what? That's exactly what happened. New teams during the expansion in the 90's became good strictly by drafting players years later (so those players were not even in the league and therefore, cannot watered down the league) or remained at the bottom of the league for a long time. Let's look at them: The Orlando Magic drafted Anfernee Hardaway, Shaq, Dennis Scott and Nick Anderson (their big 4), the Charlotte Hornets acquirred Larry Johnson, Kendall Gill and Alonzo Mourning through the draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury through the draft, the Raptors acquired Vince Carter through the draft, the heat acquirred Glen Rice and Steve mith through the draft, the Grizzlies were so bad that they don't existe anymore. The Bobcats, who came into the league in the 2000's are still bad.
The point is that ALL THOSE NEW TEAMS were among the worst in the league before they were able to draft SUPERSTARS TALENTS because they WERE NOT ALLOWED TO WATERED DOWN THE LEAGUE.
So, I know a few players were a bit jealous when the Bulls 72 and talked about it but that's not reality. However, I agree with Bill Simmons that in the first half of the 90's, the league was a little bit deeper and loaded than the second half overall. But let's not exaggerate here...the entire 90's was loaded with talents.

Muhammad Ali is the greatest athlete ever, followed by Joe Lewis and Jesse Owens. Michael Jordan is outstanding also, his greatness should in no way be diminished; but it won't exceed either of these men only because of circumstances, not anything Michael Jordan did. Fighting wars, standing up to racist regimes and fighting a wayward establishment is circumstance. For the reasons mentioned in the above sentence, these three men are the only ones Michael Jordan should ever take a step back for.

Fans, boxers, NBA players, actors, superstar, athletes, big figures in the world, and other celebrities, consider Ali as the greatest sportsman of all time. The gap between Ali and Jordan is just too great, Ali has more influence by a good gap, and Ali has done more good than Jordan by a mile.

"Secondly, Ali was more about the fame than MJ. MJ barely does interviews while Ali was on every news outlet debating, Ali loved the cameras more than anyone"
What? How does interviewing have to with anything? Of course Ali had more interviews, he was a very controversial figure, but mostly because Ali had big fights so o f course Ali needs to do those interviews. And what do you mean MJ barely does interviews? There are several on CZcams. There are actually interviews of MJ debating on who the GOAT of basketball is. Ali wasn't debating that much, and if he was, it's usually religion or about politics, and I only remember him debating 2 times, so I would love it if you could show me more interviews of him debating. Plus, most of those times that he was on interview, it was just him trying to promote peace and to have good moral. And before you say there were times he was trash talking his enemies, remember that after his rivalry with Joe, he kept trying to ask forgiveness for him. And the time he got mad at a dude was because he called him Cassius and not Ali.
