I saw Forbidden Planet when I was 12 years old and it had profound impact on me on so many levels. The soundtrack by the Barrons was so impressive to me as it was like nothing I had ever heard before and really set the overall feeling of the movie. I thought Walter Pigeon was outstanding as Morbius and of course Robby the Robot really blew me away. I loved every aspect of the movie and as a pubescent 12 year old I had a crush on Ann Francis as Altaira. I still watch the movie from time to time as it makes me feel like that 12 year old again.

"Rocket ship XM" was almost sued by the makers of " Destination Moon" for being a copy of their idea. So the plot was changed to an accident that sends the rocket to Mars instead of the Moon.
      X M originally meant " Expedition Moon."
      Robert Lippert was the producer.

What a great selection, Forbidden Planet is one of the best I have ever seen. A movie that has cult status for many reasons, studio MGM spent a great deal of money making this movie and doesn't it show. Cast exceptional for the time and of course the special effects are pre CGI. The coolest robot ever portrayed in a movie "Robbie the robot". I noted a couple not in my collection which I had forgotten about which are also very innovative for the time of the 50's. 😃

Another good movie would have been First Space ship on Venus or Journey to the End of the Universe or The Angry Red Planet. I saw all the ones you mentioned and have to agree, The Forbidden Planet was the best of the bunch.

Initially, I agreed, but it’s not really a SPACE movie, as most of the movie and action occurs on the Earth.

Leslie Nielson before all the comedy stuff was a straight man tough guy in tons of movies. I think he even said that in the comedies he just basically played the same guy. Check out the short-lived "police squad" series with him. The precursor to airplane

2:10 THIS ISLAND EARTH (1955) THAT is really a WORLD WIDE known Classic. It even is on ther cover of one of my earliest books I had bought myself as a teenager about the theories behind Science Fiction movies. Roloff und Seeßlen: KINO DES UTOPISCHEN. MYTHOLOGiE UND GESCHICHTE DES SCIENCE FICTION FILMS, here given as of1980 You can look up the cover at Amazon. But the book was already in the Seventies very popular.
Well allready early on I wanted to understand more about Science Fiction and not just consume it.

5:05 THE COVER ART. That one in kind was very often done in Germany by Jonny Brucks, a journalist, and illustrator for several newspapers and publishers, living up to his death at the Ammersee near Munich. Ok in the Net he is usually addressed as John Brooks but he had usually signed and was personally addressed on the PERRY RHODAN CONVENTIONS as Jonny Brooks.
6:35 Basically you are right FORBIDDEN PLANET counts as one of the best Science Fiction movies. But I must say to me it is a rather boring one to watch.

What a great host! I really liked your video. May I make a constructive comment? There is a slight echo in your sound. This is because there are a lot of hard surfaces in the room you are using. You can dampen down this echo by putting a blanket on the wall nearest you. A small body mike would also help,

    Hello everyone,
I fully understand that this video is 8 years but I need your help in finding the title of a movie I watched as a kid growing up. The movie starred 3 actors two Male and the other was a female. One of the males was an older gentleman that played as a scientist and the other two actors played as a couple. I only remember bits and pieces of the movie. Some how all 3 actors where teleported from earth to some place. Not knowing where they where they began to explore the area to try and find some clues to help them figure out where they are. They went from one room to another until they found a black cubes with a funnel on top of each one. Not knowing what they maybe used for they continued searching the other rooms until they found a device that resembled a cap with a tube that seemed it could be inserted into something. So they went back to the black cubes and inserted the tube into the box. Once inserted into the cubes they soon found out that the cubes contained knowledge explaining were they where among other things. They found out they were on a space station, who created it, and for what purpose. Apparently the station was used against another warring species. The station had long tubes protruding around the station. Soon after finding all this knowledge the other species started attacking the station. So they continued finding more cubes that told them how to use the space station to thwart the enemy. They would shot missiles from the tubes to counterattack the attack but It proved futile to stop the onslaught of meteor missiles with antennas on them from blowing up the station. So eventually the knowledge cubes also told them how to transport back to earth before the station blew up. If anyone remembers the name of this fantastic movie please message and tell me the name. I'm not sure if it was made by U.S., Italy, or any other country in 50' and 60's. I do remember that the movie was in black and white.

The idea of the captain in CONQUEST OF SPACE cracking up bothers me not all that much: the theme was to show the conflicts of man adapting to---or trying to adapt to---life in space. However, the absurd performance of Phil Foster, his lame "humor" etc, really really drag things down (and here I think I'm not the only person to point out "drug it down" should be "dragged it down", no offense.) Glad you have ROCKETSHIP X-M in your ratings. A great romance of space travel. (Btw, the people who made RXM were the ones who developed DESTINATION MOON first, contrary to just about every report. But the project was taken away from them. In order to not get entirely screwed they quickly picked up another project that was in the works and rushed it into production, not only, obviously to spite the other production but to try to get some credit for being the first. I really know a LOT about the making of these two films, and 'tis a long story.)
