Dearest Ashely, Panang (Penang) Curry is originated from Penang, Malaysia; not Thailand 😊 Thailand has coconut milk-based curries but they wouldn’t be called Panang curry and I don’t think you’d be able to find specifically “Panang Curry” from their menus. Hello, I’m Thai. Yes, I think it originates from Malaysia, (although idk much of the history, sorry T^T). We do have a Panang (pronounce as pa-naeng) curry dish which is coconut milk based and is actually one of the top curry dish in Thailand. The Thai panang curry is similar to Thai red curry but the sauce is dryer and tastes sweet-ish salty. Hope this can clear any confusion (edit: sorry for any mistakes/inaccuracy)
I’ve worked at many Thai restaurants and all of them have Panang (Phanaeng) curry on their menu. Although there is a controversy in if it’s originated in Thailand or Malaysia. I’ve always heard it’s originated from central Thailand.

I was super sheltered growing up and it took me until this year to feel comfortable enough to do whatever I want. I quit my job and ended up tripling my salary.
