Eclipse over Waco: Awe-inspiring event captivates city on April 8, 2024

  • At 1:37 p.m., solar glasses came off and Central Texans saw what no one has seen here for 147 years: The moon closing over the sun like lid on a jar, casting the land into midday dusk.
    Low, drifting clouds parted enough to give many Waco-area watchers visibility of the eclipse during the totality of four minutes. Jupiter and Venus appeared near the convergence, while the horizon took on a pink hue.
    The sight of the sun going dark brought gasps, cheers and awed silence all over the area - from families on blankets by the Suspension Bridge, from amateur astronomers gathered in Aquilla, from the 14,000 visitors gathered at the Eclipse Over Texas event at McLane Stadium.

    @yourdrivermark Wow, I bet you're alot of fun at parties! Find the joy in life, the eclipse is amazingly beautiful and the only good news story we've had in over 3 yrs. Let people enjoy it!!

    In my school in the solar eclipse when it gone dark eveyone scream I look at the moon and the son was a ring and that is my first time seeing a solar eclipse

    i got to see it in my younger years, 20-30 years ago,so i was happy when this mess came and went. so much hype for 4 minits lol so glad its over
