    Viewer Question (put elsewhere): Question Sarah: this is about your mini mushroom. If I use Sculpey Clay for around the mushroom and his feet do I have to Bake it? I'm not at all used to clay. So if I do bake it can I do it before I start the project? I love your work but I feel like a real rookie. 😁🥰♥️
    We're ALL rookies at some point. :) And I will put this comment on that video, because if you asked it, someone else is probably thinking about it, too.
    If you are using a ceramic mushroom that has NO paint on it (the Dollar Tree ones), you can use Sculpey's polymer clay you bake in the oven. I use Sculpey II or Sculpey III most of the time.
    If you are using a non-ceramic (plastic, vinyl, etc.) or painted ceramic (Hobby Lobby, Joann's, etc.) mushroom, you need to use Sculpey's Air Dry clay and NOT put anything in the oven.
    Amazon has both. Craft stores usually carry polymer clay by Sculpey and air dry clay by DAS.
    As to the process, add the clay to the mushroom. Bake or let it air dry - no need to pre-bake anything at all.

      @@SarahNenniDaher My DT that is closest to me is small and messy and hardly has anything that I need so frustrating! I usually call around to different DT that aren't close to see if they have what I need first, because I am disabled and gas is expensive to waste if I go to other DTs and they don't have what I want or need and walking for long periods of time is not my friend.

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  Před 3 lety

      No, it hasn't for me or the many others who've tried it and shared in the DIY gnomes group on Facebook. That said, if your oven runs hot, start at only 20 minutes or so (Sculpey has some good tips out there).

  • @lindak7193

    Ok Sarah... question again.....I am going crazy with these little guys but I can't help it I love them!!! Ok I could not find any mushrooms at my Dollar Store any more so I ordered them from Amazon plus Sculpeylll clay but the mushrooms look already painted so what do I do??? Bake or No bake??? Or should I use some air dry clay?? I'm confused because I never used clay before but absolutely love this little gnome and now I can make 3 if I want because that's how they come from Amazon! 😀HELP!!!!!

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  Před 3 lety

      Hahah - these cuties do steal the heart. :) Okay, so you will have to link me to what you bought because I don't know what you bought.
      I purchased ceramic. If that is what you purchased, you can definitely use polymer clay and bake them in the oven. Start at 20 minutes, but it might need up to 30.
      If you purchased plastic or or vinyl, air dry clay and no oven. You can send me the link to what you purchased and I'll see if it can get more specific.

  • @lindak7193
    @lindak7193 Před 3 lety

    Sorry didn't read that you kind of answered my question but still a bit confused. The mushroom top is painted but the body is raw so you suggest I air dry it? So I need Sculpey Air Dry or DAS? Guess I need different clay.

    • @SarahNenniDaher
      @SarahNenniDaher  Před 3 lety

      If the top is glazed (like mine), you can bake it. If it is not, link me to the product and I'll try and help.

      Thank you for the sweet words, April. I picked up Sculpey clay on Amazon (they have it at craft stores, too). If you can't find the ceramic mushrooms, some of the craft stores have plastic ones and the air dry clay would work just as well. Have fun!
